04/21/06

Good morning. It’s Friday, April 21, 2006 and this is your first early morning Kids! briefing.

Tom Cruise will promote his new movie Mission: Impossible: III during a guest host appearance on Nickelodeon’s TEENick weekend evening programming block, premiering Saturday, April 29, 8-10p, and airing again the during the block on Sunday (6-9p).  Cruise, who drops in by helicopter, will be joined by MI: III’s stunt coordinator Vic Armstrong, and together they will demonstrate and explain how to safely perform some stunts.  Additionally, Cruise will answer questions from kids.

Entertainment Rights Plc has entered into a deal with Magic Lantern, the interactive media company, to develop new original online and mobile media content based on ER’s existing properties and characters.  Under the pact Magic Lantern is currently in production on an initial package of 200 short-form programs stemming from ER programming such as Postman Pat, Rupert bear, basil Brush, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe and She-Ra, Princess of Power.  Additionally, ER is working on a number of online and web initiatives, including growing the Postman Pat website into a global entity.

On May 1, 7p, TLC premieres Jamie’s School Lunch Project, starring mega foodie Jamie Oliver. Jamie is challenged in this series to produce proper meals for 21,000 South London school kids without benefit of a large budget, his favorite spices, and all in a time crunch. At the same time he faces the disapproval of lunch lady, Nora, who wants everything to stay the same. Three additional episodes follow the premiere on Mondays through the end of May.

Story/Scriptwriting Contest: Scenarios USA is partnering with BET’s Rap It Up campaign and the Kaiser Family Foundation to launch “What’s the REAL DEAL on Growing Up in the Age of AIDS?”  Open to kids/teens 13-18 year olds, living in the US, who have a story to tell about HIV/AIDS’ effect on their community, schools, friends or neighborhood. The deadline is June 13 with the winner to be announced on August 18 on BET.com and Scenarioususa.org. The contest winner’s story will be produced as a film to air on BET. More details at www.ScenariosUSA.org/contest/.

A Cynopsis housekeeping note:  On May 1st Cynopsis will be moving to a new server and launching our new website at www.cynopsis.com. The new site will include the daily audio podcasts, as well as the daily editions, much easier subscribe pages, the Cynopsis: Kids! media kit, current classifieds and a better archive.  All of that’s great, but to be sure there is no interruption in the delivery of the daily edition(s) to you, please be sure to add [email protected] to your address book (the address from which Cynopsis is generated), and notify your IT Dept that Cynopsis will be coming from this new IP address:  72.3.240.239.  This latter part is particularly important, especially for those companies with spam and junk mail filters, which is most of you.  The easiest thing – just cut and paste this paragraph and forward along to the guys in IT. They can holler back to me if there’s a question.  Remember – this will be effective as of May 1st. Thanks!

Friday Fun Fact:
If today’s ice caps melted completely, sea level would rise across the world by between 200 and 230 feet. This means the Statue of Liberty would be immersed up to her armpits, and the clock face on the Houses of Parliament in London would be under water.

Answer to Yesterday’s trivia question: What did the “P” in Roscoe P. Coltrane from Dukes of Hazzard, stand for?  PURVIS.  Yeah well, not your everyday name.  Kudos to:  Ed Dall’Aste-G Whiz/NY; Jonathan Pinkerton-CMT/Nashville TN
