Cynopsis
04/14/06
Good Morning. It’s Friday, April 14, 2006, and this is your first early morning briefing.
More TV series will be available online with a new deal between Fox and its affiliated station group. Fox signed an extension to its six year agreement with the affiliates allowing the network to make 60% of its primetime schedule available online the day after they air in primetime in year one, while the full 100% primetime slate will be available to alternative platforms by year three. The affiliate body will share in 12.5% of the net revenue derived from the non-linear efforts. The Fox programs will be streamed on its MySpace site and the network is looking into other online outlets as well, including affiliate websites. The deal with affiliates is an extension of the network’s NFL cost-sharing agreement whereby stations will contribute a percentage of their revenue toward the overall cost of Fox’s $713 million per-season NFL rights package.
Tonight’s Finales:
Fox: The Bernie Mac Show at 8p, and Trading Spouses at 9p
Weekend Premieres:
A&E: God or the Girl on Sunday at 9p
ABC: What About Brian? on Sunday at 10p
Weekend Finales:
Lifetime: Face the Family at 11p on Saturday
* MORE GOOD STUFF *The New York Times apparently is more interested in short form broadband content, rather than longer issue-driven documentaries for television. The newspaper is exercising a deal point in its 4-year old deal with Discovery and is selling its 50% stake in Discovery Times Channel back to Discovery Communications. The channel will continue with its current name and its programming slate.
MTV has green lit a new reality buddy comedy, Rob & Big Black. The show will star professional street skateboarder, Rob Dyrdek and his bodyguard/best friend, Christopher “Big Black” Boykin, making this pair America’s new odd couple. From executive producer, Jeff Tremaine, of Jackass and WildBoyz fame, this new series has eight episodes on the schedule for fall 2006.
Expo TV and About.com have a new deal to showcase About.com’s informational videos to the 12 million television homes that receive Expo TV’s consumer television and VOD network. The informational segments will also be integrated online at expotv.com.
CBS Television Stations will extend its current partnership with the morning news program, The Daily Buzz, produced by Emmis Communications Corporation and ACME Communications, Inc., on several CBS-owned stations. The stations include: WUPA/Atlanta, WKBD/Detroit, KTXA/Dallas, KSTW/Seattle, WTOG/Tampa, WGNT/Norfolk, WUPL/New Orleans and WLWC/Providence. The Daily Buzz can be seen in 138 markets and has a 39% U.S. clearance.
