   IN THE NEWS

Netflix has greenlit “Clue,” a competition series inspired by the classic murder mystery board game and 1985 film. Contestants will race to uncover the culprit, location, and weapon behind a crime. “Like so many families and friends over the years, we’ve gathered around the table trying to figure out who did it – making ‘Clue’ a source of nostalgia that everyone shares,” said Jeff Gaspin, VP of Unscripted Series, Netflix. “Thanks to the incredible vision of our partners at Hasbro Entertainment, IPC, and B17, we’re delivering a fresh, imaginative whodunit competition that will invite today’s audiences into that iconic world.” IPC and B17 are part of Sony Pictures Television, which acquired the rights to “Clue” last year.

A new docuseries about the Gilgo Beach serial killer – arrested in 2023 and charged with multiple murders on Long Island – is in development at Prime Video. Produced by Nacelle Company and Empress Films, the so-far-untitled project follows Gilgo Beach true-crime explorations from Netflix, Peacock, and ID.

NBC is testing a pilot for a game show based on Wordle, the NY Times word game. “Today” anchor Savannah Guthrie is hosting the pilot, and Jimmy Fallon’s Electric Hot Dog will produce the series alongside the Times and Universal Television Alternative Studio.

California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed a bill that turns down the volume on commercials that are louder than the primary video content being watched. Building on Congress’ Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation (CALM) Act passed in 2010, which applied to broadcast television stations and cable operators, the California law will also apply to streaming services. “We heard Californians loud and clear, and what’s clear is that they don’t want commercials at a volume any louder than the level at which they were previously enjoying a program,” said Newsom. “By signing SB 576, California is dialing down this inconvenience across streaming platforms.”

Onboard for Prime Video animated series “Kevin” are Aubrey Plaza, who is also executive producing; Jason Schwartzman (“Isle of Dogs”); Whoopi Goldberg; John Waters (“Hairspray”); Aparna Nancheria (“The Great North”), Gil Ozeri (“Big Mouth”); and Amy Sedaris (“Bojack Horseman”). The show centers on a cat who moves into a rescue after the break-up up of his human owners.

Zoo 55, part of ITV Studios, has teamed up with British space media company Sen (Space Exploration Network) to launch FAST channel Space Live. The channel will feature live 4K footage of Earth captured by Sen’s cameras aboard the International Space Station. Space Live debuts on ITVX on Wednesday, October 15, and will roll out to additional FAST platforms in the coming weeks.

The husband of a “Real Housewives of Miami” star is suing Bravo Media, NBCUniversal Media and Purveyors of Pop Productions for defamation. Todd Nepola alleges the show used his likeness without permission to produce stories that were “exaggerated, staged or even outright fake,” making it appear he was in financial distress. Nepola is seeking $11 million in compensatory relief for damages.
