Cynopsis 07/10/25: Linda Yaccarino exits X

A CYNOPSIS MESSAGE FROM OMEDA

   IN THE NEWS

X no longer marks the spot for Linda Yaccarino. “After two incredible years, I’ve decided to step down as CEO of X,” posted Yaccarino on the social media platform. “When @elonmusk and I first spoke of his vision for X, I knew it would be the opportunity of a lifetime to carry out the extraordinary mission of this company. I’m immensely grateful to him for entrusting me with the responsibility of protecting free speech, turning the company around, and transforming X into the Everything App.” Musk bought the social media platform, then called Twitter, for $44 billion in 2022; he poached Yaccarino from NBCUniversal, where she headed advertising, the following year. “Thank you for your contributions,” was his curt response to Yaccarino’s exit announcement.

Also exiting X is the WGA East, which left the platform following offensive remarks – including praise for Hitler – made by AI tool Grok on Tuesday. “The racist and antisemitic language generated by X.com’s AI (‘Grok’) after a software update directed by Elon Musk is further evidence of the urgent need for common sense regulation and oversight of artificial intelligence technology,” wrote the guild.

In a new study, 41% of parents say no brand has ever genuinely reflected their emotional experience as a parent. That’s one takeaway from Moonbug Entertainment’s 2025 State of Parenthood Study, which offers insights into what parents want from brands. Others include:
· When brands reflect the honest realities of parenting, 42% of parents actively seek out more content; 40% passionately recommend the brand; and 41% actively seek out related products.
· 84% of parents say they’re looking for shows they can truly enjoy alongside their kids, not just have on in the background.
· Parents want more emotionally realistic portrayals: 43% say they’d like to see more imperfect parents on screen, and 43% want to see more everyday parenting challenges.

“Modern parenting isn’t picture-perfect – it’s emotionally complex and deeply personal,” said Johanna Moscoso, Director of Audience Intelligence at Moonbug and lead author of the study. “This report was born from listening to what families are really telling us. When brands reflect that lived experience with honesty and care, they earn trust.”

Upcoming season ten of Netflix’s “Queer Eye” will be its last. The Emmy-winning lifestyle show launched in February 2018.

With travel surging post-pandemic, out of home advertising is impacting how people get away, according to a new study from the Out of Home Advertising Association of America (OAAA) and The Harris Poll. Key findings include:
· More than half of consumers recall seeing travel-related OOH ads, with two-thirds of those saying these ads influence where they go, what they do, and where they stay.
· More than half say an OOH ad prompted them to add a destination to their bucket list.
· Sixty-nine percent of flyers notice OOH ads in airports, and 87% of those take action, most often by looking up a brand or product online.

In a first half trading and full year 2025 update, WPP projected lower revenue amid economic uncertainty and weaker net new business than originally anticipated. “Since the start of the year, we have faced a challenging trading environment with macro pressures intensifying and lower net new business. While we expected the second quarter to be similar to the first quarter, performance in June was worse than anticipated and we expect this pattern of trading in the first half to continue into the second half,” said CEO Mark Read. “As a result, we are updating our guidance for the full year and reducing our expectations on LFL revenue less pass-through costs growth to -3% to -5% (from flat to -2%) with a year-on-year decline in headline operating profit margin of 50 to 175 bps (vs. around flat previously).”

Add T-Mobile to the list of companies scrapping DEI programs as they seek approval from the FCC for deals. After the wireless carrier notified the FCC that it was ending DEI policies “not just in name, but in substance,” FCC chair Brendan Carr responded, “Another good step forward for equal opportunity, nondiscrimination, and the public interest.” Democratic FCC commissioner Anna Gomez begs to differ. “In yet another cynical bid to win FCC regulatory approval, T-Mobile is making a mockery of its professed commitment to eliminating discrimination, promoting fairness and amplifying underrepresented voices,” she wrote on X. “History will not be kind to this cowardly corporate capitulation.” T-Mobile is looking for approval of its acquisition of US Cellular’s wireless business and a joint venture to acquire Metronet.

Over 25% of CTV viewers consider Smart TV Home Screen ads helpful for holiday shopping, up 105% from last year. Those are the findings from a holiday shopping study released by LG Ads, which also found:
· 89% of CTV viewers want holiday shopping ads to have a specific deal or promotion.
· 71% want holiday shopping TV ads personalized to their preferences, and 69% want ads to make it easier to buy the featured item (e.g. QR codes).
· Nearly 70% say they want holiday shopping ads to be relevant to what they’re watching.

“From cross-screen engagement, to spending behaviors, ad-supported viewership growth, and more, consumers are clearly communicating how they want to interact with content and advertising,” said Tony Marlow, CMO at LG Ad Solutions.

   PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

HBO Max has ordered “The Big Bang Theory” spinoff “Stuart Fails to Save the Universe,” from Chuck Lorre Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, to series. The comedy is focused on a comic book store owner tasked with restoring reality after he breaks a device built by Sheldon and Leonard. Chuck Lorre, Zak Penn, and Bill Prady are executive producers. “I wanted to do something radical that would take me out of my comfort zone. Something the characters on ‘The Big Bang Theory,’ would have loved, hated, and argued about,” said Lorre.

Finite Films & TV has launched an unscripted division with an original series, “Wings & Waves.” The celebrity competition format will feature six stars competing across water sports, judged by kiters Francesca Maini and Matteo Dorotini. The show was created and produced by Finite Films & TV founder Amy Gardner (“The End”).
