Layoffs at Paramount Global have hit BET. As it thins its ranks, BET will “further leverage Paramount’s scaled support functions in areas including linear research, finance, and business and legal affairs,” wrote network CEO Scott Mills in a memo to staff on Wednesday. Paramount announced earlier this month that it plans to reduce its US workforce by 3.5%.
A mediator has proposed that Paramount Global settle President Trump’s lawsuit over what Trump alleges was deceitful editing of a “60 Minutes” interview with Kamala Harris for $20 million, reports The Wall Street Journal. The proposal includes a $17 million donation to Trump’s presidential foundation or museum, legal fees, and PSAs to fight antisemitism. The company’s previous offer of $15 million was rejected. |
Trump’s latest media target is CNN correspondent Nathasha Bertrand, for her reporting on the Defense Intelligence Agency’s assessment that the US bombing strikes on Iran likely set the country’s nuclear program back by just a few months. “She should not be allowed to work at Fake News CNN,” posted the president on Truth Social. “Her slant was so obviously negative, besides, she doesn’t have what it takes to be an on camera correspondent, not even close. FIRE NATASHA!” Responded CNN, “We stand 100% behind Natasha Bertrand’s journalism and specifically her and her colleagues’ reporting of the early intelligence assessment of the US attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities,” adding, “We do not believe it is reasonable to criticize CNN reporters for accurately reporting on the existence of the assessment and accurately characterizing its findings, which are in the public interest.”
At least one media expert believes Netflix’s next big bet should be on short-form content and exclusive, multi-year deals with creators. “Some of the bigger creators on YouTube have high production value content with huge, built-in audiences. Their annual viewing hours rival big Netflix originals,” wrote Wells Fargo analyst Steve Cahall in a research note. “Moving creators exclusively to NFLX could be an opportunity to add subscribers, engagement and ads, all at an attractive ROI.”
FOX News Media has signed conservative podcaster and influencer Brett Cooper as a contributor. Cooper will provide cultural, social, and political commentary across all FOX News Media platforms. |
Warner Bros. Discovery, in connection with DC Studios’ “Superman,” has launched a social impact campaign with Best Friends Animal Society to bring awareness to adoptable pets around the country. “Superman” director James Gunn filmed a PSA encouraging viewers to join WBD in supporting the work of the organization. The multichannel marketing campaign will air on WBD platforms from sports and streaming to cable, broadcast and social media, and in AMC theaters the month of July.
HGTV has canceled “Married to Real Estate” after four seasons. Series stars Egypt Sherrod and Mike Jackson shared the news in an Instagram post, saying, “While the chain of events leading up to this is disheartening, we are deeply grateful. Grateful for four incredible seasons. Grateful for our amazing crew and supportive fans. Grateful that our businesses continue to thrive. And most of all-grateful that we are still very much married to real estate (and to each other).”
Fred Rogers Productions has extended its partnership with PNC Foundation, receiving a $1.4 million grant through PNC’s Grow Up Great® program. The grant supports both the animated series “Alma’s Way” and community events inspired by the series and ongoing Be My Neighbor Day initiatives. |

DoubleVerify released the discovery of ShadowBot, a fraudulent bot scheme that DV said generated over 35 million spoofed mobile devices in 1Q25. The DV Fraud Lab identified ShadowBot targeting mobile and CTV environments using rudimentary automation techniques, including mobile emulators and spoofed app IDs. “ShadowBot shows that fraud doesn’t need to be sophisticated to be costly,” said Gilit Saporta, VP Product, Fraud & Quality at DoubleVerify. “It’s alarming to see $2.5M lost to bots using resolutions of an old CRT screen we all used back in the 1990s. The fraud scheme operator didn’t even bother to match its fake device signals to a proper mobile device.”
