   IN THE NEWS

CBS has added “Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen” to its late-night lineup for the 2025-2026 season. The Allen-hosted comedy talk show, with a rotating panel of comedians that includes Kevin Hart, Sebastian Maniscalco, Howie Mandel and Tiffany Haddish, to name a few, will air back-to-back, half-hour episodes Monday through Friday following “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” beginning Monday, September 22.

Hoda Kotb will return to “Today” on May 28 for the first time since her January departure, to serve as guest co-host in the fourth hour with Jenna Bush Hager. Kotb will also be a guest earlier in the broadcast to discuss a new project launch.

National Public Radio (NPR), along with Aspen Public Radio, Colorado Public Radio and KSUT, a public radio station in Colorado, filed suit against President Trump, alleging his executive order seeking to cut all federal funding to NPR and PBS is a violation of the First Amendment. In a statement, NPR CEO Katherine Maher said, “It is an affront to the rights of NPR and NPR’s 246 Member stations, which are locally owned, nonprofit, noncommercial media organizations serving all 50 states and territories. Today, we challenge its constitutionality in the nation’s independent courts.”

Ken Dilanian and Erielle Reshef have been tapped to join the MSNBC team as the network plans for its separation from Comcast. Dilanian currently works for NBC News; Reshef will depart ABC News, where she has toiled since 2017.

   PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Netflix has added more names to its “Little House on the Prairie” reboot. Jocko Sims (“New Amsterdam”), Warren Christie (Hallmark movies), Meegwun Fairbrother (“The Sticky”), Wren Zhawenim Gotts (“Echo”) and Alyssa Wapanatâhk (“Riverdale”) have been tapped as series regulars, while Xander Cole (“Web of Spiderman”) will play a recurring role.

After 32,000 children auditioned for HBO Max’s new Harry Potter series, three newcomers have been cast in the principal roles. Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry Potter; Arabelle Stanton will portray Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout will assume the part of Ron Weasley. Francesca Gardiner, showrunner/executive producer, and Mark Mylod, director/executive producer, said in a joint statement, “The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen. We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It’s been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there.” The series will begin shooting this summer.

AMC’s hit, “Dark Winds”, has added two actors to the cast for season 4. Isabel DeRoy-Olson, a new series regular, will portray Billie Tsosie, a cunning Navajo teenager, and Luke Barnett will recur as FBI Special Agent Toby Shaw.

Ahead of the official start of the Atlantic hurricane season, FOX Weather will present “Hurricane HQ: Eye On The Season” on Sunday, June 1. Meteorologists Ian Oliver and Bryan Norcross will anchor the FAST channel’s three-hour special, from 12-3p, which will kick off Hurricane Week programming.

   STREAMING

According to Nielsen’s “Media Distributor Gauge” report from April 2025, YouTube has held the top spot in TV viewership for three months in a row, capturing 12.4% of total time audiences spent watching television. Disney followed with a 10.7% share, and Paramount Global boasted the largest monthly gain among measured distributors, gaining 0.4% to 8.9% of TV usage. Additionally, streaming television was responsible for 44.3% of total TV viewing.

   TECH TALK

Channel Factory is launching Channel Factory Intelligence, along with two new AI-powered tools designed to simplify media analysis and reporting: the Media Intelligence Hub, a centralized dashboard for performance insights, and the Chatbot Assistant, a personalized AI analyst that delivers quick, actionable data. The new tools are fully integrated and offer smart solutions that help advertisers place their ads in the right context, stay aligned with brand values and get better results from their ad spend.

   SPORTS REPORT

PMG’s 2025 State of Sports Report, which explores the shifting dynamic of modern fandom, has been released and here are some key findings from over 1000 respondents, aged 18 and older:
· Over 51% of respondents reported that their favorite team or athlete’s performance affects their overall mood at least moderately.
· 38% of Millennials report that their team’s performance significantly impacts their emotions, compared to only 16% of Gen Z and Boomers.
· 75% of Gen Z fans engage with secondary sports content more frequently than with full games. Gen Z consumes sports through a variety of devices and media coverage rather than only live games.
· 51% of respondents connect specific brands with their favorite teams or athletes, and 25% of those surveyed consider the values of athletes to be an important factor when evaluating brands.
· 44% of Millennials follow sports content creators, who now compete with traditional athletes for influence.
· 35% of Millennial respondents reported that they are paying more attention to sports and athletes now than before.

Amazon’s Prime Video has commissioned a five-part documentary series centered on the inaugural “Esports World Cup,” set to debut on June 6, ahead of the second edition of the Saudi Arabia-hosted event. Titled “Esports World Cup: Level Up,” and directed by Emmy Award winner R.J. Cutler, the series chronicles the debut of the Esports World Cup in Summer 2024. The event marked a pivotal moment in global esports, featuring over $60 million in total prize money and igniting an intense international competition to crown the world’s top esports Club.

   RATINGS

HBO Max’s season 2 finale of “The Last of Us” on May 25 netted 3.7 million viewers across all platforms. While it marks a 30% drop from the premiere, which pulled in 5.3 million viewers in April, season 2 (averaging 37 million viewers per episode to date) is outperforming season 1’s numbers (32 million average viewers after 90 days of viewing) of the hit series starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey.

Olivia Dupuis has been promoted to Executive Vice President of Publicity at AMC Networks, where she will lead consumer publicity and talent relations for the company’s entertainment brands and platforms.
