| Twelve Senate Democrats, spearheaded by Sen. Ed Markey, sent a letter urging FCC Chairman Brendan Carr to immediately withdraw his agency’s order requiring Disney to submit early license renewals for its eight broadcast stations. The senators highlighted the troubling timing of the directive, which came just 24 hours after President Trump publicly called for ABC to terminate late-night host Jimmy Kimmel. “You have effectively converted the FCC’s authority over the public airwaves into an instrument of presidential retribution against constitutionally protected speech,” the senators wrote. The letter sets a May 21 deadline for Carr to answer questions about the order’s timing and procedural basis, as well as any communications the FCC may have had with the White House before initiating the early license review.
Telemundo pulled back the curtain on its 2026–2027 programming slate ahead of Upfront week, showcasing a mix of returning favorites and new additions across scripted, unscripted, and sports programming. On the scripted side, established franchises “La Reina del Sur,” “El Señor de los Cielos,” and “Sin Senos Hay Paraíso” will all return. They’ll be joined by three new dramas: “Unidad de Vida,” which follows a medical resident navigating a corrupt hospital system; “Hot Sur” (w/t), centered on an immigrant’s journey through the justice system; and “Uno Contra Todos,” which tells the story of a wrongly imprisoned public defender.
The unscripted lineup sees the return of “La Casa de los Famosos,” “Top Chef VIP,” and “Exatlón Estados Unidos,” with two new additions: music competition “Operación Triunfo” and “House of Villains” (Juego de Villanos, w/t). Telemundo will also venture into holiday programming for the first time with its debut Christmas movie, “La Vida Ideal.” Rounding out the slate, Telemundo Deportes — the Spanish-language home of the FIFA World Cup — is set to deliver more than 700 hours of live tournament coverage.
AI is fueling more sophisticated fraud, with connected TV (CTV) schemes accelerating worldwide, according to DoubleVerify’s 2026 Global Insights report, “Must-CTV: Streaming’s Shift From Promise to Performance.” DV detected 140% more CTV fraud schemes and variants in Q1 2026 compared with Q1 2025, driven by AI. Additional findings include:
· DV uncovered 50+ distinct CTV bot attacks and variants in 2025.
· 10x more fraudulent CTV apps were discovered in 2025 vs. 2024.
· In unprotected campaigns, fraud can cost advertisers approximately $1.8 million per billion CTV impressions served.
“CTV is attracting premium spend and bad actors right along with it,” said Gilit Saporta, VP, Fraud Lab at DoubleVerify. “Our research shows fraudsters are quick to exploit inefficiencies in the ecosystem, using AI and limited transparency to siphon value from advertisers, with tactics that vary by market.”
Garrett Haake has been promoted to NBC News’ chief White House correspondent. In a note to staff, Chloe Arensberg, NBC News’ Washington bureau chief, wrote, “Garrett has been an essential voice in our White House coverage, bringing sharp reporting, deep sourcing and an authoritative presence to some of the most consequential stories of our time. That commitment was on full display during the White House Correspondents’ dinner, when he ran at full speed in his tux from the Washington Hilton to the White House briefing room to ensure NBC could ask the President a question — a moment that reflects his relentless drive to get the story when it matters most.” Haake succeeds Peter Alexander, who moved to an anchor position at MS NOW.
The HISTORY Channel, the White House, and Freedom 250 have joined forces to launch Mission to Honor: A 250th Salute to American Veterans — a nationwide effort marking the 250th anniversary of the United States by celebrating the service and sacrifice of veterans across generations. Central to the initiative is a collection of first-person video profiles spanning veterans from World War II to the Global War on Terror, each preceded by a recorded tribute from President Trump.
ABC News is launching the 20/20 True Crime channel on TuneIn. The channel features podcasts as well as episodes of “20/20,” “20/20: The After Show,” cases from “20/20 True Crime Vault,” and more.
With her syndicated talk show wrapped after seven seasons, Kelly Clarkson is heading back to NBC’s “The Voice” for its 30th run. It’s a role the original “American Idol” winner held from seasons 14–21, and again for seasons 23 and 29. Also onboard is original coach Adam Levine. |
