   IN THE NEWS

Not all industries respond to ad exposure the same way. Health and Electronics brands tend to gain attention with each additional impression, while Food, Restaurants, and Consumer Products hit their peak somewhere mid-campaign before tapering off. That’s one finding from TVision’s Attention & Creative Impact Report, which also highlights the outsized role of program context in ad performance. The content surrounding an ad doesn’t just set the mood — it can meaningfully shift results. Restaurant ads, for instance, over-index by 10 points when placed alongside business and relationship tension programming but shed 11 to 12 attention points in romantic or Valentine’s Day content.

Donald Trump has escalated his feud with the BBC, now claiming the broadcaster used artificial intelligence to manipulate footage of his January 6 Capitol speech – an allegation the BBC flatly rejects. In an interview with “60 Minutes,” Trump alleged that the BBC’s “Panorama” documentary — which the corporation has already acknowledged edited his speech in a misleading way — went further than admitted, using AI to fabricate words he never spoke. Trump is currently suing the BBC for $10 billion over the program. “They had my lips speaking words of hate, tremendous hate, that I never said,” Trump told the program. “It was my lips, my face, and they were in sync, but it wasn’t me.” A spokeswoman the BBC said the clip was drawn from real excerpts of Trump’s speech taken from different sections, and that no AI technology was involved in its creation.

Television is evolving into what Circana calls an “immersive storefront” — an environment where consumers can discover and buy products without ever leaving the screen. The firm’s report, The Future of TV: Where Immersion Meets Commerce, backs that framing with data showing CTV delivers 15% higher return on ad spend than linear TV and 21% higher than short-form video. Adoption is keeping pace with the opportunity: three in four US households now subscribe to an ad-supported streaming service, giving marketers scaled, addressable reach at a level TV hasn’t offered before. Completing the commercial loop, retail media networks are increasingly linking TV ad exposure directly to purchase, giving brands the closed-loop measurement that has long made digital attractive — now applied to the biggest screen in the house.

VaynerX is launching a new agency brand focused on the attention economy. Called The Tamara Group, the new agency addresses mounting pressure on CMOs to produce more content at greater speed — a demand driven by algorithm-dependent platforms like YouTube and TikTok.

Paramount disclosed in an FCC filing that foreign ownership of equity interests in Paramount after its planned $110 billion merger with Warner Bros. Discovery will be approximately 49.5 percent. Among those stakeholders, three Middle Eastern investment funds would collectively hold a 24% stake. Paramount maintained in the filing that these funds would strengthen its ability to compete in both broadcast television and the wider video programming market.

London bureau chief Claire Day is out at CBS News after she clashed with editor-in-chief Bari Weiss over the network’s coverage of Iran and Gaza, reports The New York Post. A source told the paper that Shayndi Raice, a foreign editor from the Wall Street Journal, will lead international coverage across CBS News and will be based out of London starting May 11. Said CBS News President Tom Cibrowski, “Our London Bureau will be moving to a new editorial leadership structure, with the introduction of a foreign editor role overseeing all international coverage.”

The CW Network has picked up “Private Eyes West Coast” (w/t), starring Jason Priestley (“Wild Cards”) and Cindy Sampson (“Supernatural”). The procedural is a spin-off of Canadian series “Private Eyes,” which ran from 2016-21, with Priestley and Sampson reprising their roles. The CW will serve as the US network, while the series will air on Global in Canada.

By embedding AI-powered, continuous marketing mix modeling into the business, the two companies aim to replace sluggish, backward-looking reports with real-time decision-making across media and trade investments. While in the past, Hershey focused on reach, when the new systems fully launch in May, “We’ll have the ability to make fast, informed decisions about where our advertising dollars go based on what’s actually happening right now in the market, not what happened months ago, said Vinny Renaldi, VP, Consumer Connections at Hershey, in a blog post.

The deal ramps up output to two episodes per week starting this summer and unlocks a deep bench of Oprah IP, including “The Oprah Winfrey Show” library, Oprah’s Book Club and Oprah’s Favorite Things, all primed for broader integration across Amazon’s ecosystem. “Long before the term ‘creator’ existed, Oprah was building a direct and deeply personal connection with audiences across generations – and that bond continues to grow,” said Matt Sandler, GM of Creator Services, Amazon. “Creators are reshaping entertainment, and Oprah continues to pave the way.” Winfrey’s content will still be available on YouTube.

Banijay Media Germany is launching streaming service ShowdownTV. The new platform will bundle content from sports, live events and entertainment, available both live and on demand.
