IN THE NEWS |
| Prime Video has canceled “Gen V” after two seasons. The YA drama is a spinoff of “The Boys,” which wraps its five-season run on Wednesday, May 20.
Better news for Prime Video’s “Hazbin Hotel,” which was renewed for a fifth season – though it will be the adult animated comedy’s last. “From its inception, ‘Hazbin Hotel’ has pushed the boundaries of adult animation through bold storytelling, vibrant artistry, and unapologetic heart,” said Melissa Wolfe, Head of Animation, Amazon MGM Studios. “Vivienne Medrano and her team have built an extraordinary world that has captivated fans around the globe, and we’re thrilled to give the series – and its passionate community – a fitting, unforgettable final chapter.”
Helena Bonham Carter (“The Crown”) has checked out of HBO’s “The White Lotus.” It was announced in January that the actress had joined the season four cast, and production on the hit series has already begun in France. But, “It had become apparent that the character which Mike White created for Helena Bonham Carter did not align once on set,” said an HBO spokesperson. The role is being rewritten and will be recast. Added the rep, “HBO, the producers and Mike White are saddened that they won’t get to work with her but remain ardent fans and very much hope to work with the legendary actress on another project soon.”
The debut of Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of Rhode Island” delivered a healthy 2.7 million Live+7 cross-platform viewers. The reality show is the 11th series to join the ever-expanding “Real Housewives” franchise,
The Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers have made it to the finish line with the union’s approval of a new four-year contract. The agreement includes concessions on both sides regarding health insurance. “In the face of industry contraction and runaway healthcare cost inflation, writers were able to secure a contract that returns our Health Fund to a sustainable path and builds on gains from the 2023 strike,” said WGAW president Michele Mulroney and WGAE president Tom Fontana in a statement.
Disappointing first quarter results led to Charter shares dropping 25.5% on Friday. Wall Street had projected earnings per share of $10.36, compared to the reported $9.17. The company also lost 120,000 broadband customers in the quarter, exceeding estimates of a 100,000 decline and well above the 59,000 loss recorded in the same period last year. Spectrum mobile lines increased by 368,000 and by 1.8 million over the last twelve months. Chris Winfrey, President and CEO of Charter, maintained the company is confident about its ability to win in the marketplace. “That confidence is founded on our advanced network, our core operating strategy of delivering great products at great prices and our focus on increasing customer satisfaction,” he said.
HBO Documentary Films is in production on a docuseries exploring the Zizians, a group of young technologists tied to a string of violent crimes in 2025. Inspired by reporting from Tessa Stuart in Rolling Stone, the series is directed by Matthew Galkin (“One Night in Idaho”) and produced by XTR in partnership with Rolling Stone Films. The project examines the group’s unusual intersection of AI safety ideology, radical veganism, and the broader cultural forces surrounding them. |
