About one month after it said about 15,000 customer accounts were hacked, Roku reports it has found another 576,000 subscriber accounts that have been compromised, a relatively small portion of its total 80 million active users. The company said hackers did not gain access to customer credit card numbers or other payment information, but in less than 400 accounts, “malicious actors” made unauthorized purchases of streaming services and Roku hardware products, for which Roku said it would issue refunds. Roku said it was not the source of the breach, instead hackers used login credentials from other online accounts where affected users may have used the same username and password, also known as “credential stuffing.”

Fandango at Home (previously Vudu) has teamed up with Turner Classic Movies on a new digital storefront, providing access to TCM catalogue of titles from the film libraries of Warner Bros., MGM, and RKO. The storefront will introduce 30 classic films, including “Cool Hand Luke,” “The Dirty Dozen” and “Rebel Without a Cause,” that have screened at the TCM Classic Film Festival over the last 15 years to watch for free on a weekly rotation beginning in April through the end of May.

Well, at least they gave it a shot. Three months after declaring their undying love and devotion to each other in their televised marriage ceremony, “Golden Bachelor” pair Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist have decided to call it quits. The two announced their plans to divorce in an interview with Juju Chang on “Good Morning America,” with Turner stating: “We’ve come to the conclusion mutually that it’s probably time for us to dissolve our marriage.” The pair are giving back the ring gifted by the show and Chang confirmed later they had both signed pre-nuptial agreements. Turner insisted the two were still in love – “I root for her every day” – but added they decided it was best they lived apart. “It’s a head scratcher,” said Chang.

Lifetime has greenlit “The Girl Locked Upstairs: The Tanya Kach Story” executive produced by Elizabeth Smart. Starring Robert Baker (“Supergirl”) and Jordyn Ashley Olsen (“My Mom’s Letter from Heaven”), the film is set to premiere this summer and is based on the true story of Tanya Kach, who was groomed by the security guard at her middle school and held captive in his home for ten years. Following the movie Lifetime will air the special, “Beyond the Headlines: The Tanya Kach Story with Elizabeth Smart.”

NEW & RETURNING SERIES

Apple TV+ renewed “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” for a second season and has struck a new multi-series deal with producer Legendary Entertainment for multiple spinoffs based on the popular Monsterverse franchise.

“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” landed a fourth season renewal from Paramount+, while animated comedy “Star Trek: Lower Decks” will conclude with its fifth season on the streamer in the fall. “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” is currently in production on season three.

COMING UP

MTV will air two episodes from season five of Showtime’s drama series “The Chi,” on April 16 and April 23 at 9p with limited commercials. The sixth season of the series premiered in 2023, and the second half of “The Chi” will begin streaming May 10 on Paramount+ with Showtime, with its on-air debut slated for May 12.

“TMZ Presents: Arnold & Sly: Rivals, Friends, Icons” premieres April 23 at 8p on Fox. Executive produced by Harvey Levin, Ryan Regan, Don Nash, Charles Latibeaudiere and Jess Fusco, with co-executive producer Susan Favre, the special features Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger discussing how their once fierce rivalry evolved into friendship.

Streaming service TCLtv+ has officially moved into original content production with the launch of TCLtv+ Studios, its first production hub. Boasting a global production team that includes animators, VFX experts and AI engineers, and customizing the latest AI technology, the studio’s is an AI generated special, “Next Stop Paris.” The short romance movie features professional voice actors and an original script, but is brought to life with the latest AI animation technology and will make its debut this summer online and on the TCLtv+ streaming app.

“Under the Bridge,” based on Rebecca Godfrey’s book about the 1997 murder/killing of fourteen-year-old Reena Virk (Vritika Gupta) who went to join friends at a party and never returned home, will premiere on Hulu on April 17. The series stars series regulars Lily Gladstone, Vritika Gupta, Chloe Guidry, Javon “Wanna” Walton, Izzy G., Aiyana Goodfellow, Ezra Faroque Khan with Archie Panjabi and Riley Keough.

TECH TALK

Samba TV has partnered with fuel retailer video network GSTV to provide digital out-of-home video measurement beyond traditional screens and devices. Through the partnership, SambaTV has conducted proof-of-concept studies, including campaigns for a national quick-service restaurant brand and a national consumer packaged goods brand to analyze the reach and frequency of GSTV campaigns compared to national and local TV schedules. “This partnership will help advertisers understand and optimize the unique and complementary reach that DOOH can contribute to a media plan,” said Samba TV co-founder and COO Alvir Navin.

Video software provider Synamedia unveiled some of the technologies that will be on display at their “Innovation Hub” at the upcoming NAB Show, April 13-17 in Las Vegas. Demonstrations on low latency, a showcase of a multi-CDN steering system based on HLS and DASH specifications and its latest generation of video codecs are just a few highlights. “Our Innovation Hub comprises solutions and prototypes built to enable our customers to make money and save money,” said Marc Baillavoine, CTO of Video Network, Synamedia.

SPORTS UPDATE

Women’s Rugby League launched two new social channels dedicated to the Women’s game – including the world’s first TikTok account run exclusively by players, ahead of the quarter finals of the Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup April 13-14. Players from across the national pyramid will share their own content on TikTok to give fans an insight into the life of a Rugby League player both on and off the pitch – with England and St Helens star, Emily Rudge, taking over the keys to the account from Friday April 12.

FOX Sports’ VOICES returns on April 14 at 2p on Fox with a special episode commemorating trailblazing athletes including Major League Baseball greats Jackie Robinson and Reggie Jackson, Angel City FC’s Madison Hammond, collegiate women’s basketball star Caitlin Clark and the Minnesota Vikings’ Camryn Bynum. The show is hosted by Fox NFL reporter Kristina Pink.

GOING GLOBAL

UKTV has commissioned a reboot of British crime drama “Bergerac” for its freeto-air channel Drama and free streaming service UKTV Play in 2025. The six-part series will be produced by BlackLight TV, part of Bankay UK, and filming will begin this summer, with locations including the Channel Island of Jersey. Casting will be announced in the coming months and Banijay Rights will handle international distribution.

BBC One and Prime Video have ordered two new seasons of spy thriller “The Night Manager.” Produced by The Ink Factory in association with Character 7, Demarest Films and 127 Wall, and in coproduction with Spanish partner Nostromo Pictures, filming for the series is scheduled to start later this year. Tom Hiddleston will reprise his role as spy Jonathan Pine. The new seasons will premiere on BBC One and its VoD platform iPlayer in the UK, and on Prime Video in the rest of the world.

Robert MacNeil, venerated PBS newsman and co-anchor of the iconic “MacNeil/Lehrer Report” died Friday. He was 93 years old. MacNeil first teamed with Jim Lehrer in 1973 to cover the Senate Watergate hearings, and in 1975 launched a 30- minue show that would become the “MacNeil/Lehrer Report,” focusing on a single story in-depth and garnering more than 30 awards over the years. In 1983 the program became “The MacNeil/Lehrer News Hour,” the first one-hour evening news program in the country. He retired from the show in 1995.
