   IN THE NEWS

A group of Democratic senators is demanding a “thorough review” of the proposed $110 billion Paramount Skydance–Warner Bros. Discovery merger, citing concerns over significant foreign investment tied to the deal. In a letter to FCC Chairman Brendan Carr, Senators Cory Booker, Chuck Schumer, Dick Durbin, Richard Blumenthal, Mazie Hirono, Sheldon Whitehouse, and Elizabeth Warren warned that sovereign wealth funds from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, and Tencent Holdings are contributing billions in financing. “This constellation of foreign investment – from China and Gulf states with complex and sometimes competing relationships with the US – demands rigorous, not perfunctory, review,” the senators wrote.

CBS has renewed “CIA” for a second season. The “FBI” spinoff’s February 23 premiere was seen by 8.4 million multiplatform viewers within seven days, according to Nielsen Panel + Big Data.

Scripps Networks is rolling out a slate of announcements ahead of its Upfront. The company is debuting “The Silver Fox Squad,” a new Bounce original unscripted series produced with Kevin Hart’s Hartbeat and BluSpeed Productions, alongside additional projects in development for Grit. It is also launching Scripps Sports Network, a free 24/7 streaming channel, on March 24. And Scripps News will introduce “Connected with Alisyn Camerota,” a new interview series featuring in-depth, one-on-one conversations hosted by the former CNN and Fox News anchor.

Rachel Solomon is leaving her job as anchor of CNN morning show “Early Start.” “I have decided that this will be my last week at CNN. More to come about what’s next for me, but I am really excited about this next chapter,” she said on Monday’s show.

Also on the move is John MacFarlane, who left his job as CBS News correspondent earlier this month. MacFarlane is joining digital outlet MeidasTouch Network, where he will be chief Washington correspondent. “I’m not an opinionist, not an editorialist,” he posted on X. “I’m far from a politician. I’m an enterprise reporter. Have been for a quarter century…. MeidasTouch and I have long shared this same philosophy – you don’t platform lies. You don’t platform conspiracy theories. And you don’t allow for the whitewashing of history.”

Paramount+ is not bringing “Star Trek: Star Fleet Academy” back for a third season. In a joint statement, CBS Studios and Paramount+ said they were “incredibly proud” of the work that went in the show, adding, “The series introduced audiences to a bold new group of characters, welcomed familiar faces, and expanded the Star Trek universe in exciting new ways.”
