IN THE NEWS |
Paramount+ has ordered a third season of “School Spirits,” to launch in 2026. No surprise there – season two of the drama debuted to an average audience of 3.9 million in its first 28 days, a 94% lift rom the season one premiere.
ABC News is restructuring around three units: 24/7 live and breaking news; signature shows, including “GMA,” “World News Tonight,” “The View,” “Tamron Hall,” and “This Week”; and longform storytelling built around “20/20,” “Nightline,” and ABC News Studios. That info came from ABC News head Almin Karamehmedovic, who wrote in a note to staff that the priorities for the news division include a mission to “preserve and expand our audience by reaching our viewers wherever they are”; “streamline and strengthen our operations to collaborate better in service of the news”; and “execute and deliver for our audience with excellence.” “We were called to journalism because we believe in its value in society,” he wrote. “The role of an independent press is essential, and we cannot take this for granted.”
Director Carl Erik Rinsch was indicted by federal prosecutors for defrauding Netflix, after he took over $11 million from the streamer by claiming it would be used to complete production of sci-fi show “Conquest.” Instead, the money was used to “finance lavish purchases and personal investments,” said FBI Assistant Director Leslie Backschies, who added, “The FBI will continue to reel in any individual who seeks to defraud businesses.” Netflix wrote off the $55 million it spent on the project. |
Season two of the HBO’s “The Last of Us” will be available to stream in American Sign Language (ASL) alongside the show’s episodes each week beginning with the season debut on Sunday, April 13 at 9p. Season one will be available in ASL starting Friday, March 31.
Authentic Holdings is acquiring Goliath Motion Pictures Entertainment, owner of content including “In Living Color” and “The Cosby Show,” for $11 million. “To date ‘Goliath’ has been licensing to Maybacks Global Entertainment all of its content for the 35 channels it distributes globally on our streaming platforms and Over the Air broadcasting networks,” said Chris Giordano, Chairmen and President of Authentic Holdings. “After careful examination of the relationship, the parties agreed that the strategic acquisition of the 40,000+ titles owned by Goliath was a natural metamorphosis between Maybacks and Goliath.”
Meanwhile, Future Today is expanding its content library with the “Ultraman” franchise through a partnership with Mill Creek Entertainment. As part of the collaboration, Future Today will onboard 19 “Ultraman” movies and 8 specials, part of a superhero franchise that originated in Japan in 1966. “This partnership with Mill Creek Entertainment allows us to expand our content library with an iconic franchise that has a long-standing global fan base,” said Soma Sengupta, Head of Partner Relationships, Future Today. “By bringing ‘Ultraman’ to our platform, we are providing more diverse entertainment choices that appeal to a broad audience.” |
