Paramount Global is exploring “creative options to divest or otherwise monetize non-core assets,” said CFO Naveen Chopra at Morgan Stanley’s media conference this week. Chopra didn’t comment on M&A rumors, but noted, “We are very conscious of the fact that our job as management is to create value for all our shareholders. There are multiple ways to potentially accomplish that. But to the extent that there are other alternatives, we will be diligent about exploring them.” As for cuts, Chopra said he didn’t anticipate more content write downs, but didn’t rule out cost reductions “in multiple forms and in various parts of the business.”

CBS’ “Young Sheldon” will go out with a “Bang.” Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik are reprising their roles from CBS’ “The Big Bang Theory” for the series finale of the “Bang” prequel on Thursday, May 16.

NFL talker “Good Morning Football” is set for syndication – as “GMFB” – for the 2024-25 season, said Sony Pictures Television. Two additional hours will be produced on weekdays, with stations having the option of taking one or both of the hours.

NATAS announced its new Board of Directors, following a restructuring of the Academy’s bylaws and governance to be more representative of the industry communities it serves. Adam Sharp remains President & CEO, and Terry O’Reilly remains Chair, joining 17 other members.

PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

CBS Studios and the NAACP, in partnership with P&G Studios, is developing a soap opera focused on a wealthy Black family. “The Gates” comes from Emmy winner Michele Val Jean (“General Hospital,” “The Bold and the Beautiful”), who will serve as writer and showrunner, as well executive producer alongside NAACP Venture President Sheila Ducksworth, Leon Russell, Derrick Johnson and Kimberly Doebereiner. “The Gates will be everything we love about daytime drama, from a new and fresh perspective,” said Ducksworth. “This series will salute an audience that has been traditionally underserved, with the potential to be a groundbreaking moment for broadcast television.” The only other US soap to launch centered on a Black family was NBC’s “Generations,” back in 1989.

ABC gave a pilot order to a comedy starring Tim Allen (“Last Man Standing”) as the widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop. “Shifting Cars” (w/t) comes from Mike Sully and Susan Thacker Sully (“Duncanville”), who executive produce with “Last Man Standing” EPs Allen, Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker and Rick Messina and the series’ studio, 20th Television.

Among the Upfront programming announcements for A&E is the expansion of the net’s “Secrets” franchise with “Secrets of the Hells Angels” and “Houses of Horror: Secrets of College Greek Life.” The net also struck a development deal with Hello Sunshine that includes an order for “Country House Hunters.”

A&E’s corporate sib History Channel greenlit a 20-part WWII docuseries hosted and narrated by Tom Hanks, and has partnered with baseball Hall of Famer Derek Jeter for nonfiction series “History’s Greatest Warriors” and “The Icons That Built America.” Danny Trejo hosts “The UnXplored by Danny Trejo” (w/t), exploring the buried artifacts of lost civilizations. On the way from Lifetime is a biopic about Gloria Gaynor under the Robin Roberts banner, and a movie based on the true story of Sarah Lawrence sex offender Larry Ray.

Netflix ordered two more seasons of “Avatar: The Last Air Bender.” The live-action series, inspired by the animated Nickelodeon show that ran from 2005-08, premiered to 41.1 million viewers in its first eleven days. Season three will be its last, wrapping up Aang’s journey to become the Avatar.

“Upload” was picked up for a fourth and final season on Prime Video. The season three finale of the sci-fi comedy dropped November 10. “We know that the series will be uploaded to its well-deserved idealistic afterlife,” said Amazon MGM Studios Head of TV Vernon Sanders.

The first step in Lionsgate’s long-anticipated plan to spin off its studios business from Starz and its streaming division will take place in April, when the studio merges with an SPAC and starts to trade separately from Starz. The company expects the divisions to be fully separate by the end of 2024.

Joe Wright (“Atonement”) will direct and executive produce “The Department,” a drama series from Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios. The espionage political thriller series based on the French drama “Le Bureau des Legendes” debuts on Paramount+ later this year.

Warner Bros. Discovery’s US Hispanic and Omnicom Media Group are teaming to launch “Juntos en Accion” (Together in Action). The four-episode renovation reality series tackles projects designed to uplift and restore living and working spaces. Tailored to resonate specifically with Spanish-language audiences, the show is slated to premiere the second quarter of 2024 across WBD linear and digital assets. “Connecting with US Hispanic audiences in a modern approach requires a deliberate orchestration of multiple relevant touchpoints that both reach and resonate,” said Michael Roca, Executive Director of OMG’s Elevate cross-cultural Center of Excellence. “This partnership sets a new standard in allowing OMG clients to tap into the overall scale of the WBD media ecosystem regardless of language to promote and distribute original content geared towards this nuanced audience that is expected to control more than $2.7 trillion in consumer spending power by 2026.”

New cast members for season two of Starz drama “The Serpent Queen” include Minnie Driver (“Good Will Hunting”) in a recurring role, and Angus Imrie (“Fleabag”), Emma McDonald (“Moonhaven”), Stanley Morgan (“The Sandman”), and Philippine Velge (“Station Eleven”) as series regulars. “The Serpent Queen” tells the story of Catherine de Medici (Samantha Morton), who became one of the most powerful and longest serving rulers in French history.

NEW & RETURNING SERIES

Netflix’s “The Magic Show with Justin Willman” makes its debut on April Fool’s Day. The series follows comedian/magician Willman (“Magic for Humans”) as he attempts twisted pranks.

Online dating meets the real world in OWN’s “The Never Ever Mets,” kicking off Friday, April 19 at 8p. Hosted by Ta’Rhonda Jones (“Empire,” “The Real”), the series follows seven couples who have been virtually dating and believe they may have found lasting love, but have never met. On the reality show, they meet face-to-face for the first time and share a house together for three weeks to see if their internet love can survive off the screen.

HBO comedy docuseries “Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show” premieres Friday, March 29 at 11p. New episodes of the eight-episode season about Carmichael’s “tumultuous quest for love, sex and truth” will debut weekly.

Season two of “The Reluctant Traveler With Eugene Levy” premieres tomorrow, March 8 on Apple TV+. First up: Sweden, complete with moose calling, kayaking and a festive celebration.

Executive Producer Guy Fieri (“Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives”) enlists his pal Noah Cappe for Food Network series “Best Bite In Town,” premiering Friday, April 12 at 9p. In each episode, Noah and two chefs explore the local food scene in cities across the country.

Ready for shocking twists? If the season 14 trailer is any indication, Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of New Jersey” delivers the goods starting Sunday, May 5 at 8p.

As part of its “Make It” brand, CNBC will premiere “Unlocked” on Sunday, March 10 at 4p. The ten-episode series explores how much people spend on housing, what they get for their money and what they’ve had to sacrifice to turn their real estate dreams into reality.

“Haven of Grace,” a saga set in the underworld of a Northern French port city, debuts Tuesday, April 9 on MHz Choice. The limited series will air with English subtitles.

New series “48 Hours to Buy” launches Saturday, March 8 at 11a on A&E, followed by the reboot of HGTV’s “Property Virgins” at 12p.

Freeform has two new reality series on the way. “Grand Cayman: Secrets in Paradise,” following uber-rich and on-the-rise locals on the island, premieres Tuesday, April 9. “Wayne Brady: The Family Remix” follows the comedian/host/actor and his family starting this summer.

RETAIL MEDIA

Convenience store chain Wawa has launched a retail media platform, Goose Media Network, enabling product and brand partners to reach customers through customized ads through the company’s mobile app, website and pumps. “Goose Media Network elevates convenience by delivering offers to customers right where they shop and allows us to build new connections with our customers and partners’ brands,” said Melissa Seabright, Advertising Manager for Wawa. “This new opportunity will help connect our customers with new and relevant offers from brands they love while allowing us to increase visibility for our product partners.” Wawa partnered with Publicis Groupe’s Publicis Sapient, Epsilon, and CitrusAd leverage their digital business transformation services, retail media expertise and advertising technology platform. “We are excited to extend our partnership with Wawa and help brands grow their relationship and customer base with Wawa through its Goose Media Network,” said Ganesh Rangarajan, GVP & Managing Partner at Publicis Sapient. “Brands will reach shoppers and customers will more easily find products, try new products and discover new brands.”

Fifty-three percent of marketers said AI will “significantly enhance” the way shoppers are targeted and served relevant ads, according to a survey of 200 CPG advertisers commissioned by Cooler Screens. AI’s impact on the space will be “moderate, improving some aspects, but not transformative,” believed 37% of marketers, while 9% predicted traditional methods will remain in place with slow adoption, and 1% said they were unsure about AI’s role at this stage.

STREAMING

Eighty percent of US adults, or 214 million, consumed video content via streaming platforms over an average 30-day period in 2023, according to a survey by AdTaxi. That’s up 6.2 million versus a year ago. Among viewers ages 12-17, 18-24, 25-34, and 35-44 the figure is 90%. The number was 88% of viewers 45-54, 75% for 55-64 viewers and 53% for 65 and over. Almost three-quarters of adults surveyed said streaming was their default source of TV/video consumption, up from 42% in 2023, while 84% of Gen Z adults identified streaming as their first choice in viewing TV video content.

Lifetime’s “Dance Moms: The Reunion” is slated for Wednesday, May 1 at 8p. As a digital first presenting sponsor of the show, Maybelline will be featured in custom multiplatform elements that will live across social channels. The reunion will be followed by compilation show “Dance Moms: Epic Showdowns” at 10p.

African nations are represented by 28 contestants and countries this year in the Miss World pageant, taking place March 9. The three-hour program broadcast will air exclusively in the US on The Africa Channel. “We are delighted to bring the Miss World 2024 Final to our viewers and felt that by drawing attention to Africa and amplifying the causes advocated by these accomplished women participating from the continent, we would further the pageant’s theme of ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ and our own mission of presenting contemporary African narratives,” said Karen Juve, VP of Programming at The Africa Channel.

Vanessa Hudgens and Julianne Hough will host “The Oscars® Red Carpet Show” on Sunday, March 10, at 6:30p on ABC. This marks Julianne Hough’s inaugural year and Hudgens’ third consecutive year hosting the official pre-show.

Advertiser Perceptions announced the launch of subscription offering AP Ad Insights Hub. Subscribers will have access to forecasts for ad spending, and reports covering CTV, trust in advertising, AI/ML in advertising, the creator economy, demand- and supply-side platforms. “By offering the full breadth of our reports in a single package, we are enabling subscribers to utilize a wealth of up-to-date data and insights and to share them with colleagues throughout their organizations,” said Randy Cohen, CEO at Advertiser Perceptions.

Eighty-four percent of surveyed sports viewers reported watching live sports events with friends or family each week, according to a survey from DirecTV Advertising and DirecTV Business. Seventy-three percent did so to socialize, 72% to enjoy good food and drinks, and 57% to share the excitement with fellow fans. A quarter of sports viewers opt for out-of-home viewing experiences, with 73% preferring to socialize with friends and family, 72% savoring the eats, and 57% enjoying the camaraderie of fellow fans, while 44% see it as an opportunity to meet new people.

Prime Video announced the second season of Italian original series “The Bad Guy,” starring Luigi Lo Cascio and Claudia Pandolfi, with Stefano Accorsi joining the cast.

Titan OS S.L, a technology, entertainment and advertising company based in Barcelona, has launched mitele, Mediaset Spain’s live and on-demand digital TV multiplatform, now available on Smart TVs powered by Titan OS in Spain.

Off The Fence has closed multi-genre package deals totaling more than 700 hours of programming with The Roku Channel, VIZIO and Xumo. Under the three deals, history, crime, wildlife, nature, science and conservation programs will become available on streaming services in the US, the UK and Canada, with dual English/Spanish-language content becoming available in Mexico and the US.

FOX News’ “Democracy 2024: Super Tuesday Primaries” was the most-watched program in all of television as the majority of primary results came in from 10-11p, according to early data from Nielsen. The network’s special coverage delivered 3,509,000 viewers and 503,000 among A25-54. MSNBC drew 1.96 million viewers, ABC 1.88 million, NBC 1.68 million, CBS 1.46 million, and CNN 938,000.

Overall, Super Tuesday drew 11.4 million viewers for its peak hour, a far cry from the 19 million who watched the results from the 2020 cycle come in.
