Sony plans to introduce a series of new cloud-based services and entertainment technology. The gaming service is called PlayStation Now and will be available later this year. The TV service will combine live programming with video on demand. Also look for a 4K projector to go on sale this summer…

Fandango unveiled a new service offering movie trailers and integrated ticket purchasing capabilities for Samsung Smart TVs. Fandango’s movie trailers will be built into the Samsung Smart Hub Movies & TV Shows tab on the TV, and users will have the option to purchase movie tickets right from the screen. Fandango most recently included its original movie preview show, Weekend Ticket into Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 tablet…

Samsung and social gaming cloud-based gaming service TransGaming announced a partnership that will incorporate TransGaming’s GameTree game catalogue into Samsung Smart TVs. The app can be downloaded on the Smart TV with free game play…

… Hearst’s re-launch of its Seventeen magazine YouTube Channel on Jan. 27 with partner AwesomenessTV is a sign of more big brands staking their ground on the platform. This from Margaret Laney, AwesomenessTV CMO, who told a CES Digital Hollywood panel that brands are thinking of YouTube “as a big fan club.” AwesomenessTV is programming Seventeen’s YouTube presence to include original shows and tutorials. Laney also said YouTube advertising will be on the rise this year. “Brands realize there are so many eyeballs there. It’s not only a place to get seen, but to drive engagement. And it’s also pretty cheap, compared to network television.”

Vimeo has completely overhauled its video player; it’s faster, with 50 percent less load and click play times, offers increased viewer accessibility to Vimeo videos (through the ability for video creators to add subtitles or closed captioning for global audiences). Viewers who find a Video-on-demand Vimeo video from a different site can make purchases through the embedded video player.

British television streaming site Acorn TV added a new assortment of programming exclusively for North American viewers. The added titles include: Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries Season 2, Agatha Christie’s Poirot Series 12, Time Team, Maigret, Trial & Retribution, Fresh Fields and the follow up series French Fields. All are available at www.Acorn.TV and through its Roku channel.

Bravo’s multiplatform arm Bravo Digital had its best year in 2013, including its best year for traffic at BravoTV.com on all devices. On tablets and desktops, BravoTV.com raked in 4.48 million average monthly unique visitors, and 6.59 million monthly video streams. The Bravo Now app took in its best year for average monthly page views at 4.27 million per month and its best year for monthly unique visitors at 102,100 average per month.

Scripps Networks Interactive’s digital lifestyle video site Ulive.comdebuted a new video collection called Healthy Awesomeness yesterday. The videos include episodes from Scripps Network’s series and original content from social media experts called Do Better Daily, OM on the GO, Yoga Rebel and One Day One Change. Episodes from Food Network and Cooking Channel such as Drop 5 Lbs with Good Housekeeping, Tofuworld and Undercover Veggies are also featured in the new videos.

Voting is open for DIY interactive renovation series and sweepstakes Blog Cabin. Viewers help choose design features for a Craftsman-style bungalow in Florida, then enter for a chance to win the renovated home on Monday, July 28; the show premieres that night at 9:30p. Last year, more than 14 million votes were cast.

Ad tech firm YuMe and music and video content recognition company Gracenote announced a collaboration to synchronize TV and mobile ads with what consumers are watching in real time. The technology will allow TV viewers who are simultaneously using their smartphone to receive relevant ads on their devices, which will do so by “listening” to the show and delivering ads about the show or keywords within it. YuMe and IPG Media Lab found in a recent study that 30 percent of TV viewers report their smartphone is their primary device while watching TV.

Procter & Gamble released an ad for the upcoming Feb. 6 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, and it’s a sequel to its tearjerker ad highlighting mothers during the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. The ad titled, Pick Them Back Up, once again shows mothers helping their young athletes to balance while ice skating, snowboarding or to play ice hockey. 2012’s The Best Job went viral and garnered 21 million views.
