What lawsuits? Aereo is moving into the Baltimore market on Monday, December 16, amid legal battles brought by broadcasters claiming the streaming service is stealing their signals. Aereo is already in major markets including NYC, Miami, Boston and Detroit.
Dianna Agron will be among the original Glee cast members returning for the Fox show’s 100th episode, revealed show co-creator Ryan Murphy via Twitter on Thursday. Agron hadn’t appeared in the October tribute episode for Cory Monteith. Heather Morris, Mark Salling, Amber Riley and Harry Shum are also onboard.
Verizon added 16 new channels to its Verizon FiOS Mobile App. Customers with the (free) app will able to stream the channels, including Cooking Channel, Bloomberg Television, Showtime and STARZ, from eligible devices. In several East Coast markets, including New York, FiOS customers can watch CBS and Fox stations on tablets and smartphones.
A study from Needham & Co. media analyst Laura Martin suggests that while unbundling would offer consumers more control, it could prove costly. The report, released Wednesday, predicts if channels were chosen a la carte, about 130 networks would go off the air, 1.4 million jobs would be at risk and rates for existing channels would be hiked.
AMC‘s Breaking Bad picked up four Writers Guild of America nominations Thursday. Netflix‘s House of Cards and Orange Is the New Black, and ABC’s Modern Family scored three apiece. Awards will be handed out Saturday, February 1, 2014 in LA and NYC.
Nickelodeon is teaming with the U.S. Postal Service for a campaign encouraging children to write letters. Show premieres Tuesday, January 14 with back-to-back eps at 9p and 10p.
E! picked up a series about plastic surgery gone bad. Botched will feature the efforts of plastic surgeons and reality vets Dr. Terry Dubrow (husband of Real Housewives of Orange County‘s Heather Dubrow) and Dr. Paul Nassif (ex-husband of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum Adrienne Maloof) giving victims of knives gone wrong “a second chance at beauty,” said EVP of programming and development Jeff Olde. Series debuts in summer or fall of 2014.
Along with a two-hour special television event for the return of Whale Wars on Friday, December 13 at 9p, Animal Planet introduced its first interactive episode, Whale Wars: Blood and Water online at AnimalPlanet.com/WhaleWars. The show “represents a new type of storytelling experience that’s richer and more immersive than anything we’ve done before at Discovery Digital Media,” said Miguel Monteverde, VP of digital media.
Nat Geo follows the quirky life of a man dubbed “the Forrest Gump of Middle Earth,” who makes his home off the grid, in the trees of the Pacific Northwest. The Legend of Mick Dodge, produced by Screaming Flea and Pawn & A King Productions, premieres Tuesday, January 7 at 10p.
On a special one-hour ep of Long Island Medium, Theresa Caputo catches up with past clients to find out how her readings changed their lives. Expect surprises and, of course, tears on the show, airing Sunday, December 8 at 9p.
Telenovela La Vida Sigue (The Life We Lead) is “an intense drama where love is the only thing that can overcome life’s unexpected turns,” said MundoFox EVP of Programming Adriana Ibanez. Drama begins Monday, December 9 at 8p.

Former Carnival Films (Downton Abbey) creative director Sally Woodward Gentle has set up a new independent production company, Sid Gentle Films Ltd. to produce high-end scripted drama productions and series.

Portugal has hopped aboard the Rising Star train. The hit talent show format from Keshet International was acquired by TVI, to launch in 2014. Other deals include the U.S. (ABC), Brazil, Spain, Italy, France, Russia, Germany, the Nordics and Hungary. In Israel, the show averages a 46.6 percent share.

CBS‘s Survivor hit a season-high 10.6 million viewers Wednesday, and bumped up four tenths among A18-49 for a 2.6/8 rating.
NBC‘s annual Christmas at Rockefeller Center saw a ten percent bump over last year, to a 2.3/7 A18-49 rating – its best in seven years.
CW‘s Arrow scored a season-high 3.2 million viewers Wednesday night, and bumped up a tenth to a 1.2/4 A18-49 rating.
Fast N’ Loud was the number one cable program among men on Mondays, excluding sports, for the seventh consecutive week on December 2. The 9p telecast posted 2.10 for M18-49 and 2.40 among M25-54. It was also the Discovery’s show’s highest rated telecast to date, with 2.67 million average viewers P2+.
In the week ending November 24, Jeopardy! set a season high with a 6.7 HH rating, up 22 percent over the same week last year. Number one game show Wheel of Fortune tied its season high at a 7.5 HH rating, up 19 percent versus last year.

Wednesday A18-49 Analysis: NBC grabbed the most A18-49 viewers Wednesday with 2.5/7, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. CBS won the 8p hour with a 2.6/8 for Survivor, followed by 2.3/7 for NBC’s Christmas at Rockefeller Center special. NBC’s SNL Christmas special took 9p with 2.9/8 versus a 2.4/7 average for ABC comedies Modern Family (3.2/9) and Super Fun Night (1.6/4). SNL kept up steam at 10p with 2.4/8, to beat 1.6/5 posted by ABC’s Nashville.
