A CYNOPSIS MESSAGE FROM truTV

truTV is proud to announce a bold, visually arresting
new brand campaign
via this dry, text-heavy Cynopsis ad.

Funny because it’s tru.
Don’t take our word for it. Watch our new spots..

IN THE NEWS

truTV is launching a new brand campaign that spotlights the Turner network’s programming transformation into a home for comedy-driven reality and scripted series. The network’s new tagline is: “Funny because it’s tru.” The cross-platform campaign, which truTV created with its new agency partner WorkInProgress, showcases talent from the network’s shows including Impractical Jokers, Adam Ruins Everything, and Those Who Can’t. “Our goal with this campaign was to re-introduce viewers to truTV and our hilarious roster of talent and shows,” Puja Vohra, EVP of marketing and digital, tells Cynopsis. “Our new tagline captures both our comedic identity and approach to life. The inspiration for this campaign was all those intentionally ridiculous spots that networks have done over the years featuring unnaturally glammed up TV stars awkwardly interacting on an over-lit set. They were meant to be ridiculous, right? Oh god, I hope so.”

Is Megyn Kelly headed to CNN? The question is in the air after a Matt Drudge report yesterday said she “may” jump to the network that competes with her current home news net Fox News Channel. Drudge cited an unnamed source who reports CNN chief Jeff Zucker wants Kelly to make the move, offering carrots including the possibility of Kelly starring in a movie for CNN sibling Warner Bros. Kelly’s contract with FNC comes up in 2017.

Philip I. Kent will be nominated for election to the Scripps Networks Interactive board of directors at its annual shareholder meeting in 2017. Kent served as CEO of Turner Broadcasting System from 2003-13. He will succeed director David Galloway, who will be retiring from the board after nine years of service.

PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

For seven seasons, Kurt Sutter’s award-winning Sons of Anarchy was the highest-rated ongoing drama series in FX history. Now, Sutter returns to that world with Mayans MC, a drama series pilot for FX and the next chapter in the SOA saga, which he co-wrote with producing partner Elgin James. Mayans MC is set in a post-Jax Teller world, where EZ Reyes, a prospect in the Mayan MC charter on the Cali/Mexi border, struggles with his desire for vengeance against the cartel. Sutter will direct the pilot episode and serve as executive producer, with James serving as co-executive producer. The pilot is being produced by Fox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions, with production scheduled to begin in March.

Starz original series Counterpart began production in LA on the 10-episode first season of the spy thriller from MRC (Media Rights Capital), Gilbert Films and Anonymous Content. The espionage thriller about ‘Howard Silk,’ a lowly cog in a bureaucratic agency who discovers that the agency he works for is really guarding a crossing into a parallel dimension with a metaphysical twist, stars Oscar winner J.K. Simmons (Whiplash, The Accountant, Juno), Olivia Williams (The Sixth Sense, Hyde Park on Hudson) and Harry Lloyd (The Theory of Everything, Jane Eyre). Ulrich Thomsen (Banshee) has also just joined the cast. Series was created and written by Justin Marks.
