Addressable advertising: Addressable advertising lets marketers target audiences on television sets and digital devices with relevant ads based on data related to those audiences. This type of ad targeting, when matched with external data, can show whether members of a certain household visited an automobile showroom, made online or offline purchases plus a number of other actions. Addressable TV ad inventory often fetches premium prices because it is limited to two minutes of local time.
After 52 rounds, the third stage of the FCC’s broadcast incentive spectrum auction closed Thursday. Broadcasters’ new asking price is $40.3 billion for 108 MHz of spectrum. Stage three is of the forward auction expected to begin Dec. 5.
On its 10th anniversary, distribution specialist Gravitas Ventures has put itself up for sale after being approached by several possible buyers, Deadline reports. The company releases approximately 400 new release titles every year and has a library of more than 2,000 titles that it distributes across hundreds of platforms worldwide.
If you’re not familiar with the #BusterTheBoxer ad from U.K. retailer John Lewis, it’s because your friends aren’t sharing enough with you. Although the ad was released just a few weeks ago, it’s the #1 shared ad of 2016, according to Unruly. The company’s annual top 20 list contains ads from 10 different countries. Brands that made the cut include 7 Eleven, McDonald’s, Mentos and Volkswagen.

Programmatic is an indispensable part of digital ad buying – but it can be confounding, too. Beginning Sunday, CBS will stream its coverage of NFL games on the CBS All Access over-the-top subscription service. Its deal with the NFL includes regular season, pre-season and playoff games.
Amazon Prime members can now subscribe to stream HBO and Cinemax series via Amazon Channels, the e-commerce giant’s cable-like TV offering. The HBO package costs $14.99 per month for unlimited streaming access, the same cost of an HBO Now subscription, while the Cinemax package costs $9.99 per month.
FilmStruck, the new subscription VOD service from Turner for movie aficionados, has added a streaming platform to its menu by debuting an app for fourth-gen Apple TV devices. The service is also offered on Web browsers, Android and iOS mobile devices and Fire TV devices.
Hopster, the ad-free app for fun and educational children’s content, has teamed up with Fingerprint on a new offering. Hopster will now be available to millions of families via the Samsung Kids App for $7.99/month or $59.99/year.
Who rightfully owns the data generated by digital ads served to consumers’ browsers and devices? MediaPost commissioned a survey of 303 advertiser and agency executives and the findings confirm a difference of opinion that has been the subject of much debate. Not surprisingly, the majority of marketers (60%), believe they are the rightful owner. Agency executives were more circumspect in their responses, but among those weighing in, they believe agencies are the more rightful owner by a margin of nearly two to one: 35% said agencies, while only 19% said advertisers.
