The CEOs of Alphabet and Apple received letters on Friday advising them that they must be prepared to remove TikTok from their US app stores on January 19. The bipartisan missives came from members of the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, and referred to the decision by the US Court of Appeals in Washington, DC, to uphold a law requiring China’s ByteDance to divest TikTok by that date. TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew also got a letter reviewing the court decision, adding that, “Congress has provided ample time for TikTok to take the necessary steps to come into compliance.” TikTok has said it plans to take the case to the Supreme Court.
Big tech is cozying up to Donald Trump – both Amazon and Meta are donating $1 million to the president-elect’s inauguration fund. In addition to the cash, Amazon will livestream the event on Prime Video, as it did for Joe Biden’s 2021 inauguration.
Australia is imposing a tax on digital platforms that earn over $159 million and don’t share revenue with news organizations. The tax would impact the likes of Meta, Alphabet and TikTok. “The real objective is to incentivize agreement-making between platforms and news media businesses in Australia,” said Australian government Assistant Treasurer Stephen Jones.
DoubleVerify announced the launch of its Generative Artificial Intelligence Website Avoidance & Detection solution, aimed at helping advertisers navigate the risks posed by low-quality, AI-generated content. The company evaluates sites and subdomains predominantly exhibiting AI-generated content with minimal human oversight. Poor quality signals include repetitive cookie-cutter formats, chatbot-generated text within articles, placeholder content, and other markers. “Advertisers are focused on maximizing campaign performance while ensuring that their ads appear within suitable environments that align with their brand,” said Mark Zagorski, CEO of DoubleVerify. “By expanding DV’s brand suitability solutions to identify low-quality, AI-generated content, we’re empowering advertisers to stay ahead in a rapidly evolving ecosystem.” |

According to CreatorIQ’s 2024-25 State of Creator Marketing Report, 74% of organizations reported increasing their creator marketing investment year over year, compared to 55% last year. IAB Tech Lab announced the release of multiple deliverables focused on helping the industry most efficiently utilize IAB Tech Lab’s taxonomies. In-game advertising solution Anzu and Pixalate, the ad fraud protection platform, announced a partnership aimed at detecting and blocking invalid traffic within Anzu’s programmatic gaming inventory across mobile and PC. By leveraging Pixalate’s pre-bid Blocking solution, which blocks over 40 types of IVT, Anzu enables campaigns running programmatically across its premium PC and mobile gaming inventory to retain low fraud levels. “IVT is less likely within in-game advertising than other advertising channels due to the complex nature of 3D gaming environments, and this new partnership will help safeguard the space to keep it that way,” said Ben Fenster, Anzu’s Co-Founder and CPO, said. “Many advertisers we work with already rely on Pixalate to protect their campaigns across CTV, mobile, and the web. This partnership will extend that protection across their intrinsic in-game ads, which many have integrated into omnichannel campaigns to extend their reach to audiences who are spending more time gaming and less time consuming traditional media.”
Premium streaming advertising revenue saw nearly 50% growth in the third quarter, with year-over-year revenue hitting $3.8 billion, according to MoffettNathanson Research. Hulu had the highest revenue for the period at ($782 million, +5%), followed by Peacock at ($761 million, +114%); Prime Video ($441 million, + 230%); Netflix, ($429 million, +95%); Roku Channel ($331 million, +22%); Pluto TV ($272 million, +18%); and Tubi ($255 million, +19%). For the year, Disney+ will boast the best growth, up 261% (to $531 million in ad revenue). Prime Video is expected to gain 133% ($2.0 billion), and Netflix, 116% ($1.6 billion).
