NEW PROGRAMMING + DEALS

 
IFC
launched online destination IFC Comedy Crib, to feature original and acquired series from the network’s comedians and partnerships with AboveAverage and UCB Comedy. The first series to launch on the platform are unscripted series ClickBait Overload, six episodes of scripted series Laurie, John and Geoff are Married and reality series Comedy Drop. Rolling out in 2015 through a partnership with Hyundai, three new web series from AboveAverage and more UCB Comedy series will follow later. “In this case, we get to show a different side of Hyundai that people may not expect,” Hyundai Director, Marketing Communications David Matathia told Cynopsis.
 
Amazon announced its seven-show slate of season five pilots, which will include: hours Cocked, Mad Dogs, The Man in the High Castle and Point of Honor; half-hours Down Dog and Salem Rogers, along with the half-hour docu-series The New Yorker Presents. The pilots boast big names: Lie to Me’s Sam Baum and Manhattan’s Sam Shaw will star in Cocked, while Point of Honor will be directed by Braveheart’s Randall Wallace; Mean GirlsMark Waters will helm Salem Rogers.
 
Comedy web platform Funny or Die may be considering a sale, according to Bloomberg. HBO has a less than ten percent stake in the company, which is also partly funded by Angel VC Sequoia Capital. FOD is reportedly working with Moelis & Co. and is seeking a valuation between $100 million and $300 million.
 
YouTube’s upcoming streaming music service just broke through a major barrier, striking a deal with rights agency Merlin, which reps thousands of independent record labels. As previously reported, smaller labels were threatening to take down videos from artists like Adele and the Artic Monkeys if the service launched without an agreement between the two parties. YT originally hoped to start YouTube Music Key last year, but the date has been pushed back multiple times.

, TV monetization and interactive content company, signed a deal with RTR Media for first-look at RTR’s development slate for digital and TV lifestyle channels. “This supports our strategic vision of producing content for multiple platforms,” RTR Media CEO and Executive Producer Kit Redmond said.
 
Video platform Ocho launched a video-based social network for the iPhone yesterday, starting by teaming up with VICE Sports and Showtime. Ocho’s network will originate short-form video content and field dispatches for VICE, and will host exclusive cuts of trailers for Showtime’s Homeland and The Affair. The network app is available to download for free in the Apple App store.

The week after Nat Geo WILD’s live stream coverage of a safari in Africa for Safari Live captured rare footage of wild dogs bringing down a pregnant impala (warning: not for the faint of heart), the net announced it will broadcast the show beginning Saturday, November 29 at 9a, through Sunday, December 7. NatGeo will simulcast coverage beginning Monday, December 1 at 9a for one week. Safari Live is available at WILDSafariLive.com beginning at 9a and 11p until January 31.

Vimeo
rolled out three new episodes of its first original series High Maintenance yesterday, with three more expected in January. The series follows marijuana dealers, and the lives of those they supply. Each episode goes for $1.99 on Vimeo, or $7.99 for all six eps.
 
PBS Digital Studios
’ latest Blank on Blank episode was released yesterday, and features an animated portrayal of an interview with Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips. In the 2002 interview, Coyne talks about his early career in fast food, and an armed robbery that changed his perspective on life and death. Blank on Blank is a series that animates unheard stories from American historical figures and pop culture icons.
 

 
MOBILE GAMING + APPS
 

Starz Play, Encore Play and Showtime Anytime added its apps to Google’s Chromecast devices yesterday. Chromecast owners can now use the three networks with authentication to view more than 2,000 movies, and TV series along with Showtime’s original programming like Homeland, Ray Donovan, The Affair and more.
 

 
ADVERTISING
 

Yahoo confirmed its acquisition of video advertising network BrightRoll for a $640 million price tag. BrightRoll serves 87 of the largest U.S. advertisers, 18 of the top 20 ad networks, 15 top agencies, half of the top 50 publishers and 350 video platforms and clocked in $100 million revenue this year.
