ADVERTISING & BRANDS
While no advertisers have jumped ship, kneeling national anthem protests by NFL players have them concerned, said NBCUniversal‘s chairman, advertising sales and client partnerships, Linda Yaccarino, at an interview session at ad agency RGA. “There is a list of advertisers that have made themselves very clear: ‘If you continue to cover the political coverage of the issue, we will not be part of the NFL,’” said Yaccarino. “I do think that has impacted ratings.’”
Yaccarino also said her company is looking to deliver ads to consumers in a more targeted and precise manner, but is hampered by the limits of ad agencies that are “completely paralyzed” and focused on protecting their legacy business. But watch out: by next season NBCU has plans to change its TV ad transactions. “You’ll see a very aggressive step out of our company to challenge that legacy,” said the exec.
Yaccarino’s hardly the only industry player agitating for change. In the Cynopsis webinar one week from today, Solving the Digital Ad Measurement Challenge, leaders from the agency, advertiser and publisher sides will detail best practices right now, and what needs to be done to prepare for the future in cross media measurement. To register, go here.
