IN THE NEWS
“We are going to have to make tough and uncomfortable decisions,” Disney CEO Bob Chapek warned employees in a memo announcing a task force to help the company manage costs. In addition to a “rigorous review” of content and marketing spending, a hiring freeze has been instituted, as well as travel limits and an evaluation process that is expected to include staff reductions. “Our company has weathered many challenges during our 100-year history, and I have no doubt we will achieve our goals and create a more nimble company better suited to the environment of tomorrow,” wrote Chapek.
“Everything’s Trash” will not make it to a second season on Freeform. The comedy from Phoebe Robinson (“2 Dope Queens”) was the network’s least watched original series this year.
CBS’ “NCIS,” “NCIS: Hawai’i,” and “NCIS: Los Angeles” will have a three-hour crossover event on Monday, January 2. “We are so excited to finally have the long-awaited, first-ever NCISverse crossover to share with our passionate, loyal viewers,” said Amy Reisenbach, EVP of Current Programs at CBS. “The popularity, longevity and continued success of the franchise is a testament to the immense talent of the casts and writing and producing teams who bring these shows to life.”
Responding to a surge in parody accounts after it launched its $8/month Twitter Blue option (a fake Eli Lilly account declared “insulin is free now”), Twitter suspended the subscription plan “to help address impersonation issues,” according to an internal note. Before the subscription service, the check mark indicated authentification, given after Twitter had verified an account holder’s identity.
Nielsen asked to postpone a meeting of the Media Rating Council’s audit committee, which had been scheduled for today, November 14. The company was slated to demonstrate improvement in its measurement efforts, having had accreditation for its national ratings suspendedin September 2021. But don’t read too much into the delay, said David Gunzerath, SVP and Associate Director of the MRC, noting, “While it is true the existing suspension of MRC accreditation remains in place at the current time, it is also true that we believe Nielsen has made significant progress on most of the issues that led to that suspension, and MRC continues to actively work with Nielsen on a path to address the remaining issues so that a consideration of reinstatement of accreditation to the National TV service may occur relatively soon.”
Discovery Channel’s “Gold Rush” miner and team leader Fred Lewis is a military veteran whose entire crew is comprised of vets – which is no coincidence. He explains the connection in Cynsiders.
