11/14/19: The NHL and Honda renewed vows with a new agreement

Honda and the NHL are taking another lap, courtesy of a multiyear renewal of their partnership, which keeps Honda as the NHL’s Official Automotive Partner in the United States and Canada through the 2021-22 season. As Official Automotive Partner, Honda will continue its presence at NHL tentpole events throughout each season, including title sponsorship of Honda NHL All-Star Weekend and as one of the League’s in-ice presenting partners of the NHL Winter Classic, NHL Stadium Series and NHL Heritage Classic. As sponsor of the NHL All-Star Weekend, Honda will again be featured in the NHL All-Star Game event logo, including integration in the center ice emblem of the host venue, and included in NHL promotional materials leading up to NHL All-Star Game across linear TV, and digital and social media.

PROGRAMMING

ABC officially picked up the new competition series Ultimate Surfer with the eight-episode series set to feature up-and-coming surfers to train and live together as they battle it out at the World Surf League’s Surf Ranch in Lemoore, California, powered by Kelly Slater’s man-made wave technology, in the hope of competing amongst the best athletes in the world’s fastest-growing sport. Production will begin in 2020 and an airdate will be announced later this season. Slater will serve as on-air talent and special correspondent for the show.
 
NBC Sports is on deck to showcase over 150 hours of 2019-20 FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup programming across its platforms this season with coverage starting Nov. 23 at 7a on Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA, which will televise nearly 100 hours of FIS Alpine coverage this season. NBC Sports’ 2019-20 FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup schedule spans three continents and is highlighted by events in Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada (Nov. 30 – Dec. 1, Dec. 6 – Dec. 8); Killington, Vermont (Nov. 30 – Dec. 1); Beaver Creek, Colorado (Dec. 6 – Dec. 8); Wengen, Switzerland (Jan. 17 – 19); and the Alpine Skiing World Cup Finals in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy (March 18 – 22), which will also host the 2026 Winter Olympics.
 
Meanwhile, Stadium announced a lineup of over 65 college basketball games from five conference partners that will span across Stadium’s over-the-air network, WatchStadium.com, and dedicated channels on Roku and Fubo TV. Additionally, 20 games will be featured as a Facebook Watch exclusive. The Stadium lineup features a collection of games from Conference USA, Mountain West, Patriot League, West Coast Conference and the Atlantic 10 Conference. Additionally, Stadium will showcase 12 conference tournament games beginning in March with talent that includes Chris Hassel, Doug Gottlieb, Ari Wolfe, Jeff Goodman and Kristen Balboni.
 
CM Punk is returning to WWE to join the roster of FS1’s WWE Backstage starting Tuesday at 11p. He will appear as a special contributor and analyst and make select appearances in studio alongside host Renee Young and analyst Booker T, joining fellow regular contributors Christian and Paige, as well as news correspondent Ryan Satin on the rotation.
 
For the third straight month, ESPN Podcasts set a new record with a verified unique audience in October of 8.1 million, marking an uptick of 27% over October 2018 and the 10th consecutive month of year-over-year growth. The leading driver behind the growth was Fantasy Focus Football which enjoyed a 25% increase, adding 319,000 uniques and growing to 1.6 million, its second most uniques ever.
 
Anthem Sports & Entertainment announced that its Game+ network launched on Videotron, the largest cable operator in the province of Quebec, in addition to extending its carriage deal with GameTV, which will now become available in high-definition. Game+ launched an HD feed on Nov. 13 on Videotron platforms with a freeview in effect until Feb. 3, 2020.
