Things are looking Grimm at TNT. But in a good way: the NBC fantasy drama launches an off-network run on the cable net in early 2015. “Grimm will be a great addition to TNT’s lineup as the network continues to expand its reach with high-quality genre programming,” said Deborah K. Bradley, Turner SVP and head of program acquisitions, content strategy and licensing. Upcoming season four, debuting on NBC Friday, October 24 at 9p, will be added to TNT’s collection next fall.
Scarlett Johansson is making the jump to TV, in a limited series based on 1913 Edith Wharton novel The Custom of the Country. Deadline reports the Lucy actress will exec produce and star in the eight-episode project from Pink Sands, written by Christopher Hampton (Atonement).
Family friendly UP TV yanked 7th Heaven from its schedule on Tuesday after audio was posted on TMZ which has 7th star Stephen Collins allegedly confessing to exposing himself to three underage girls. “We are deeply concerned for the families that are potentially affected by these disturbing allegations,” said net president and CEO Charley Humbard. Collins was fired from the movie Ted 2 Tuesday and resigned from the SAG-AFTRA board; the NYPD is investigating.
USA announced a March 5 premiere date for Middle East-set action thriller Dig, and upped its order from six to ten episodes. “Dig promises to be a must-watch event series,” said USA president Chris McCumber. Originally scheduled to debut this fall, the show’s premiere date was postponed when conflict in Jerusalem forced the relocation of production to Croatia.
BET announced time’s up for The Game – but not until it tacked on another season. “All good things must come to an end,” said the net, adding that production is underway for seasons eight and nine. “We’re excited to end on a high note by giving Sabers fans a chance to bid farewell to their favorite players on and off the field.” BET picked up the series in 2009, after it was canceled by the CW.
Buzz boast: History topped the 3Q14 YouGov BrandIndex list in the Brand Index, Buzz and Quality categories among all cable TV nets in total respondents, A25-54 and A18-49. It’s the net’s 12 consecutive win for Buzz, and eighth for Highest Quality. Among all 1290 consumer brands measured, History ranked 14th, the only net to place in the top 20.
A&E will air the next Critics’ Choice Movie Awards and Critics’ Choice Television Awards. First up: In partnership with the Broadcast Film Critics Association, the 20th annual movie presentation will air live on Thursday, January 15, by Bain Productions and Berlin Entertainment. TV honors arrive in 2016.

Each season will focus on a different sensational true crime story. First installment: The People v. O.J. Simpson, based on the book by Jeffrey Toobin. Murphy joins Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson (The Hunger Games) and Brad Falchuk, who co-created Horror Story with Murphy, as exec producers. Alexander & Karaszewski and Dante Di Loreto also serve as an exec producers, with Murphy set to direct.FX Productions and Fox 21 will produce. “Nothing is more exciting than starting a juicy, new franchise [with Murphy],” said Fox Television Group chairmen and CEOs Dana Walden and Gary Newman.
20th Century Fox Television scrapped plans for a TV series based on the 1989 Cameron Crowe film Say Anything after Crowe took to Twitter to trash the idea. “I have no involvement…except trying to stop it,” posted Crowe. NBC had issued a script commitment plus penalty for the project the day before.
A 1989 movie that is moving to TV is Uncle Buck, put in development by ABC. The project from Universal Television is based on the John Hughes comedy starring John Candy.
Will Arnett’s Electric Avenue sold a comedy to CBS, based on the book “How Not to Calm a Child on a Plane,” about parents trying to raise a child by their own rules. Adam Barr (Growing Up Fisher) will write and exec produce with Arnett and Peter Principato.
Production is underway in Sudbury, Ontario for Up original movie The Music In Me, starring singer/actresses Debbie Gibson (3 Billion and Counting) and Gloria Reuben (E.R.). Film about a failing church choir premieres in early 2015.

Travel Channel had big announcements at a press breakfast at NYC’s Lambs Club Tuesday morning. “Travel is more than just a vacation,” said Shannon O’Neill, president of the net, debuting new series that “connect viewers to each other and the world.” Bizarre Foods: Delicious Destinations, premiering Monday, January 26 at 9p, expands the Bizarre Foods franchise; Breaking Borders brings people from conflicting cultures together over a meal; Guiding Alaska takes viewers to a remote wilderness resort; Time Traveling with Brian Unger uses CGI graphics to tell stories from the past, and Watt’s World shows journalist Nick Watt exploring Earth and its sub-cultures. Upcoming specials include The Trip: 2015 on Monday, January 26 at 8p, and Travel Channel Star, the finale to the net’s digital competition series.
Pop, rebranding from TVGN in early 2015, announced an original programming slate “filled with fun, fan-driven content,” said net president, entertainment and media Brad Schwartz. Included: competition Sing it On; docu-series Queens of Drama, featuring soap stars attempting to produce a new serial to star in, and Street Magic, focused on the world of underground street musicians. Unusually Thicke, a reality sitcom starring Alan Thicke (Growing Pains), was renewed for season two. A curated line-up of fan faves incudes Jericho, 90210, Beverly Hills 90210, Melrose Place, Survivor, The Amazing Race and Big Brother. Pop is a joint venture of CBS Corp. and Lionsgate.
JFK: The Smoking Gun returns to Reelz Tuesday, October 14 at 9p. The two-hour documentary, presenting evidence pointing to a Secret Service cover-up of an accidental shooting of President John F. Kennedy, first aired last year in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of JFK’s death. Two related specials air after the doc: JFK: Inside the Evidence, at 11p and Killing JFK: 50 Questions Answered at 12a.
America’s “first reality television show”? PBS’s American Experience presents Cold War Roadshow on Tuesday, November 18 at 9p, focused on the televised barnstorming across the U.S. of Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev during the fall of 1959, as fascinated TV viewers followed.

AMC smash Walking Dead, back for season five Sunday, October 12 at 9p, has been renewed for season six. “There’s plenty more Dead ahead,” said AMC president Charlie Collier. No surprise there: The zombie drama was the number one show on television among A18-49 for the last two years and the most highly-rated show in cable television history.
After a three-year hiatus, The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret returns to IFC for a third season in 2015, with six half-hour eps that pick up after Todd detonated a nuclear bomb that decimated the planet. “As thrilled as I am to not have to answer the question, ‘Hey man, will there be a third series of Todd Margaret or what?’ anymore,” said series creator and star David Cross (Arrested Development), “the true thrill comes in figuring out how to extend a serialized episodic in which the world blows up at the end of series two.”
GSN’s The Chase is back for the second half of season three with a special celebrity edition Tuesday, November 11 at 8p. Dean Cain (Hit the Floor), Seamus Deaver (Castle) and Boris Kodjoe (Real Husbands of Hollywood) will compete in a trivia challenge for the charities of their choice. Through its season three run,the series has posted ratings growth among P18-49 (up 52 percent), P25-54 (up 56 percent), W25-54 (up 36 percent), W18-49 (up 30 percent), and up 37 percent in total viewership, versus GSN’s year-to-date time period average.
History’s number one new series of 2014 is back (of course!) for another go. Season two of game show Pawnography launches Thursday, November 6 at 10p, with the Pawn Stars defending their treasures against brainy contestants.

Bristow Global Media and Fresh One Productions struck a deal to have BBC Worldwide handle the international distribution of both the format and Canadian version of Pressure Cooker. North American distribution rights remain with BGM.The Canadian version of the cooking competition is currently in production for Canada’s Corus Entertainment, for a launch this fall on W Network.
CBS Studios International and TV 2 Norway renewed their multi-year deal to broadcast current and future network series. The new agreement expands TV 2’s licensing for programming for its SVOD service, Sumo.
In a new structure, the A+E Networks ad sales teams will align along the selling demos Men/Adults and Women. “Structuring the sales team by these genres will allow A+E Networks to maximize our position in the marketplace and leverage more opportunities for cross-platform selling, marketing partnerships and efficiencies,” said Nancy Dubuc, President and CEO, A+E Networks.
While Zenith Media is using Rentrak as “local TV currency,” as it announced Friday, it is a test that will take place in three markets. “We haven’t done it across the board,” Zenith Optimedia chief data officer Rob Jayson told MediaPost. “If we see success and increased reliability and increased performance and increased cost savings, we will roll it out to additional markets.”

The week of September 29, ABC World News Tonight was first in total viewers, A25-54 and A18-49 for the first time since 2008, and was the only program to show a total viewer increase versus last year (up 10 percent).
Destination America’s Ghost Asylum scored the net its best Sunday night ever among W18-49 delivery and made the top ten telecasts among W25-54. Season finale is Sunday, October 12 at 10p.
Food Network ranked fourth Sunday night among cable nets, with an average .9 rating and 830,000 impressions among A25-54 from 8p-11p. Guy’s Grocery Games posted .7 at 8p, the season four premiere of Halloween Wars earned a .9 rating at 9p and Cutthroat Kitchen carved out a .9 rating in its 10p slot.
Freshman court show Hot Bench is getting hotter, at 1.4 the week ending September 28, up 8 percent versus the week prior. Fellow newcomer Meredith Vieira held at 1.2 but was up 20 percent among W25-54.
LIVE with Kelly and Michael was the number two syndicated talk show for the second week in a row in HH, total viewers and W25-54, for its strongest start in seven years.
The series premiere of Bravo’s Manzo’d with Children earned over 1.7 million total viewers and 991,000 P18-49 at 9p, according to Nielsen. The second ep, immediately following, scored 1.6 million total viewers and 881,000 P18-49. For the hour, the series averaged over 1.6 million total viewers and 937,000 P18-49, up 71 percent and 84 percent, respectively, compared to the prior four week time period average.
TNT‘s new On the Menu drew a combined audience of 1.8 million viewers in Live + Same Day delivery for Friday night’s premiere and two weekend encores, with 851,000 A25-54 and 788,000 A8-49. Maybe it was the pancakes?
The 2014 MLB Postseason on TBS averaged 3.9 million viewers through the completion of the American League Division Series, up 15 percent over the net’s comparable A.L. telecasts last year.The corresponding 2.4 U.S. HH rating is up by 9 percent over last year’s 2.2HH.
