Filming in Savannah, GA for season 2 of WGN America’s Underground was canceled for Thursday and today amid concern about Hurricane Matthew. Shooting is scheduled to resume on Monday. Also postponed is ESPN’s LSU-Florida football game, which had been scheduled for Saturday in Gainesville, FL.
Dr. Phil McGraw is TV’s top-paid host, according to Forbes Magazine, raking in $88 million in pre-tax earnings between June 2015-2016. And that was before Bull, the CBS drama based on McGraw’s early career as a trial consultant, for which he holds creator and executive producer credits, got off to a strong start. Ellen DeGeneres was runner-up, with $75 million, while Ryan Seacrest placed third, with $55 million.
They’re with her: An ad directed by Lee Daniels, co-creator of Empire, features several of the Fox drama’s cast members. The pro-Hillary Clinton spot (“There’s only one person in this race who said Black Lives Matter”) aired during the show Wednesday night.
The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers and its global arm, the International Society of Broadband Experts, announced the creation of an Internet of Things Working Group within the SCTE/ISBE Standards Group. “Even as it opens the door to new business opportunities, the massive number of Internet of Things devices that are being connected to our networks present unique reliability and security requirements,” said Chris Bastian, SVP and CTO of SCTE/ISBE. “Our new IoT working group is intended to bring together network operators and vendors to determine how best to standardize and operationalize these new services.”
The Nonfiction Producers Association, founded in 2014, has broadened its criteria for membership, establishing three tiers of participation for production companies and producers, now based on company size and volume of work, as well as adding a new “Associate” class of membership for vendors and service providers to the industry. The changes were made to “make it easier for more segments of the business to join, including emerging talent with new skill sets and fresh points of view,” said NPA GM John Ford.

Rapper Shawn “Jay Z” Carter and Weinstein Television are teaming for TIME: The Kalief Browder Story. The six-part docu-series, slated to premiere on Spike TV in January, tells the story of the high school student who was a tragic victim of the New York criminal justice system.
Fairy tale drama Freaks of the Heartland was put in development at MTV. Based on the Dark Horse Comics graphic novel by Steve Niles, the show comes from Dark Horse Entertainment and Universal Cable Prods.
Also at UCP: A haunted house procedural drama now in development at NBC. The Eight is based on a short story by Ian Rodgers.
Alien drama Blue Book, from A+E Studios and Robert Zemeckis’ Image Movers, has been put in development by History.
What’s making WE tv shows break through the clutter? “They are all focused on real and relatable characters that resonate with viewers,” says WE tv president Marc Juris. Nickelodeon is celebrating the 30th anniversary of game show Double Dare with a special premiering Wednesday, November 23 at 9p on Nick at Nite. The half hour will feature original host Marc Summers, along with vintage footage, and new (still messy) games. Double Dare aired from 1986-1993. The holiday weekend also includes the premiere of original TV movie Legends of the Hidden Temple, inspired by the 90s game show, on Saturday, November 26 at 8p.
New episodes of Supercar Superbuild are raring to go on Smithsonian Channel on Sunday, October 30 at 9p. Series focuses on the design teams and performances of rare driving machines. First up: Pagani, with a price tag of $1.5 million.
Diane Keaton will receive the 45th AFI Life Achievement Award at a Gala Tribute in June 2017. A special marking the occasion will air for the fifth year on TNT, with encore presentations on sister net Turner Classic Movies.
This morning’s broadcast of TV One’s NewsOne Now will be devoted to actor and humanitarian Harry Belafonte’s “Many Rivers to Cross” music festival. The event, which took place October 1 and 2 in Atlanta, is dedicated to racial healing. Show time is 7-8a.
getTV’s “Horror Icons” Halloween event airs Sundays in October at 10p. October 9 brings Peter Lorre: The Master of Menace, followed by The Face Behind the Mask (deformed watchmaker with an axe to grind) at 11p.
Mexican hit movie Casese Quien Pueda (Marry If You Can) premieres in the U.S. on pay-TV on Cinelatino Sunday, October 9 at 9p and 11p. The romantic comedy was the number one film upon its 2014 release in Mexico.

Season 2 of Years of Living Dangerously premieres on Nat Geo on a special date and time, Sunday, October 30 at 8p, moving to Wednesdays at 10p on November 2. Discovery is back on the Edge of Alaska starting Sunday, October 23 at 10p. New season reveals the dangerous force behind a once-tight knit community’s tensions.
Outdaughtered has a two-hour season 2 premiere on Tuesday, November 15 at 9p on TLC, before settling into its regular 10p slot the following week. Series features the only all-female set of quintuplets in the country. And now they’re walking.
Freeform gave the green light for a third season of Stitchers. Among A18-49, the drama about a young woman recruited to hack into the minds of the recently deceased is the net’s number 2 new series of the past two seasons, behind Shadowhunters.
Jim Belushi (According to Jim) will co-star opposite Taran Killam in Showtime comedy pilot Mating (wt), about a recently divorced man (Killam) unprepared for single life.
Marin Hinkle (Two and a Half Men) landed a co-starring role in Amazon dramedy pilot The Marvelous Mrs. Maiesel, opposite Rachel Brosnahan, Tony Shaloub and Michael Zegen.
Alex Roe (The 5th Wave) and Fola Evans-Akingbola (An American Exorcism) have joined the cast of Freeform pilot The Deep (wt), now in production in Vancouver.
Busy Philipps (Cougar Town) will guest on CBS’s The Odd Couple as a love interest for Felix, reports EW. Season three bows Monday, October 17 at 9:30p.
Also from EW: Lea Thompson (Switched at Birth) nabbed the role of Paige’s mother on Scorpion, which could become recurring. CBS drama airs Mondays at 10p.
Elisabeth Rohm (The Last Ship) will recur in season 2 of Netlflix comedy Flaked, starring Will Arnett.
Turner’s first domestic SVOD service, FilmStruck, is set to launch Wednesday, October 19. Developed and managed by Turner Classic Movies in collaboration with the Criterion Collection, FilmStruck will feature a streaming library targeting movie lovers, with films as well as filmmaker interviews and rare footage. Subscriptions are $6.99/month, or $10.99 with add-on Criterion Channel.
Netflix ordered six original animated series, four for older kids (LEGO Elves, The Hollow, Kibaoh Klashers and Robozune), and Super Monsters and Treehouse Detectives for the preschool set. Series will debut in 2017 and 2018.
Amazon announced at New York Comic-Con that is has picked up podcast Lore to series. The unscripted horror anthology was developed by Gale Anne Hurd’s Valhalla Entertainment and Propagate Content.

Katz Broadcasting and advertising software platform provider Mediaocean announced a partnership enabling agencies to access Grit’s and Escape’s inventory within Mediaocean’s media management platform. “Mediaocean’s Spectra platform will help deepen agency relationships and expand partnership opportunities for both networks,” said Elverage Allen, EVP of advertising sales for Grit and Escape. “Through Spectra we can now objectively quantify our contributions to clients and agencies making Grit and Escape more visible to planners and buyers.”
Judge Faith is back for season 3 in an additional 11 markets, and is introducing one-minute “legal news you can use” segments. The Legal Minute will air on several of the Judge Faith stations outside their local talk shows and newscasts, with stations encouraged to sell local advertising on the end of each minute. Stations can use the minutes as often as they like, and on their websites. Court series is produced by Trifecta Entertainment in association with Tornante TV.
CBS Studios International and Fulwell 73 announced that Drop the Mic, the Late Late Show with James Corden rap battle segment, is now available as a format to international broadcasters. In each episode, four celebs compete against each other, with the studio audience choosing the winner. “Every time it airs, it has become a massive viral moment,” said Ben Winston, exec producer of Late Late Show and co-director of Fulwell 73. “We know this will create some really memorable television around the world.”

Factor in Live+3 viewing, and the season 42 premiere of NBC’s Saturday Night Live was the show’s most-watched bow in 22 years, growing from 8.3 million to 11.8 million viewers.
The MLB game on ESPN Wednesday (sorry, Mets fans) was the highest-rated Wild Card match-up since the play-in games began in 2012, scoring a 5.8 overnight rating.
Season 2 of Bounce’s In the Cut delivered over 5.8 million viewers, up 64 percent versus season one, and 3.9 million homes, up 58 percent, across all plays. The season 4 premiere telecasts of time slot replacement Family Time were seen by 954,000 unduplicated viewers, an increase of 27 percent versus the season 3 launch.
Monday’s VP candidate debate between Democrat Tim Kaine and Republican Mike Pence delivered 37.4 million viewers, the lowest for a VP debate since 2000. NBC grabbed the biggest group of debate viewers (7.03 million), followed by CBS (6.46 million), ABC (6.15 million), Fox News (6.08 million), CNN (4.17 million), MSNBC (3.13 million), Fox (2.21 million) and Fox Business Network (392,000). Last week’s presidential debate totaled a record 84 million.
The season five premiere of CW’s Arrow on Wednesday drew 1.9 million viewers and .7 A18-49, down 30 percent and 36 percent, respectively, from last year’s debut. The launch of new drama Frequency delivered 1.4 million viewers and .4 in the demo.
Week 3 of ABC’s Speechless matched its 1.8 rating among A18-49 for week 2, which had dipped just 10 percent from the comedy’s launch.

Chernin Entertainment named Kristen Campo Executive Vice President of Television. Campo will oversee the development and production of Chernin’s television slate. Prior to Chernin, Campo was a Partner at Fabrik Entertainment.
