TNT will leave Dallas fans dangling, cancelling the Ewing saga reboot after a season three cliffhanger that had one major family member die, and (spoiler alert!) J.R.’s long-lost daughter show up. “We are extremely proud of the series, which defied expectations by standing as a worthy continuation,” said TNT. Finale earned a .4 rating among A18-49.
Also off the air: TV Land’s Jennifer Falls, which won’t make it to a second season on the net. The news follows the net’s pickups of comedies Impastor and Teachers.

Meryl Poster is leaving her position as president of television at The Weinstein Company to return to her own film and TV outfit, Superb Entertainment. Backed by A+E Studios, Superb will develop and produce projects for A+E nets as well as outside companies.
With viewers’ appetite for streaming growing ever stronger, so is the number of connected TV devices. That total reached half a billion worldwide in 2Q14, growth of 7 percent quarter-to-quarter and up 34 percent versus 2Q13, according the Strategy Analytics’ Connected Home Devices report, Global Connected TV Device Tracker: Q2 2014.
Steve Martin will receive the American Film Institute’s 43rd Life Achievement Award, presented on June 4 at a gala in LA and airing on TNT, with an encore on TCM. Last year’s honoree was Jane Fonda.

NUVOtv starts airing a “get out the vote” PSA today, with the message that a 13 percent approval rating for Congress doesn’t cut it.
Hallmark how-to show Home & Family will air new episodes for 52 consecutive weeks, Monday-Friday at 10a throughout 2015, for a total of 260. The move makes H&F the only lifestyle series on cable to produce a new show every weekday.

Amazon plucked two pilots from the set released in August to take to series: Hand of God, with Ron Pearlman (Sons of Anarchy) as a corrupt judge turned vigilante, and Steven Soderbergh’s Red Oaks, starring Mad About You’s Paul Reiser and Richard Kind and Jennifer Grey (Dirty Dancing). Apparently, walking on a tightrope between Windy City skyscrapers wasn’t dangerous enough for Nik Wallenda. For a portion of his highwire trek in Chicago, Wallenda will wear a blindfold. “I hope to…show that the impossible is not so impossible if you set your mind to it,” said the daredevil. Viewers in over 220 countries can cross their fingers and tune in to Skyscraper Live with Nik Wallenda, from Peacock Productions, Sunday, November 2 on Discovery at 7p.
Three aspiring designers compete to design Martha Stewart’s 2014 Halloween costume on online reality show Shriek or Chic: Martha’s Haute Halloween Challenge. First of six webisodes launch on AOL channels Tuesday, October 7.
Tonight’s episode of TV One’s Celebrity Crime Files focuses on hate crimes, including the horrific lynchings of James Byrd and Michael Donald. “Sadly, episodes of racial violence still happen all too often as evidenced by recent headlines,” D’Angela Proctor, SVP programming and production, tells Cynopsis. “This episode provides a historical look at America’s conflicted history with race-based crimes and their devastating consequences.” Show airs at 10p.

Season two of ID’s A Crime to Remember, back Tuesday, November 11 at 10p, looks at long-forgotten and infamous crimes of the 1950s and ‘60s with a fresh eye and new details. First up: The shocking case of Kitty Genovese, murdered in front of 37 witnesses who did nothing to help.
NBC picked up a third season of Hollywood Game Night. In addition to scoring a Best Reality Show Host Emmy for Jane Lynch, the alternative series averaged 1.5/4 among A18-49 and 5 million total viewers in Live+7 during the 2013-2014 season, up from 1.4/4 and 4.1 million viewers the season prior.
BET’s Real Husbands of Hollywood has been renewed for season four. A reunion special airs Tuesday, October 7 at 10p, ahead of the season three premiere of “the fakest reality show ever” (their words!) on October 14 at 10p.
ASPiRE’s ABFF Independent, a compilation of shorts and documentaries from emerging black artists, returns tonight at 8p with eight works focused on families. Omari Hardwick (Power) narrates.
Zenith Media will become the first national agency to use Rentrak’s local TV ratings data for local TV buying, the companies announced Friday. The Publicis Groupe media agency said it expected the move to cut costs.
BabyFirst launched on Suddenlink, making the net devoted to child development programming available to substantially all of Suddenlink’s 1.4 million video customers.
Gilles Marini joins season three of Lifetime’s Devious Maids as a series regular, after guesting on the sophomore season finale. Maids returns in 2015.

Hugh Laurie (House) and Tom Hiddleston (Thor) will star an adaptation of John le Carre’s The Night Manager, says the Hollywood Reporter. Spy drama from Ink Factory is being developed in partnership with the BBC.

NBC’s Bad Judge premiered with 5.9 million viewers and a 1.3 rating/4 share in A18-49, followed by 1.2/3 in the demo and 4.8 million viewers for A to Z. Lead-in to the freshman comedies was The Biggest Loser, with 1.3/4 and 4.7 million viewers.
Opposite CBS football and Scandal, Fox’s Gracepoint debuted with 1.2/3 among A18-49 and 4.8 million viewers on Thursday.
Velocity was up 26 percent among A25-54 in both ratings and delivery in 3Q14 versus the same period last year, for eight consecutive quarters of Primetime delivery gains in Persons and M25-54 and P18-49 for the net.
Thursday A18-49 Analysis: CBS scored the most A18-49 viewers Thursday with 5.8/19, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen, dominating every hour with NFL football. CBS averaged 4/15 at 8p between Kick-off Pt. 2 and the game, followed by 2.7/9 for ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy. The game scored 6.7/20 at 9p, versus 3.4/10 for ABC’s Scandal, and continued to lead at 10p with 5.3/17, versus 3.3/10 for ABC’s How to Get Away with Murder.
