Just ahead of the new hockey season, NHL Network is expanding its live weekday studio lineup, debuting NHL Now at 4p starting Oct. 12. E.J. Hradek, Steve Mears and Michelle McMahon will co-host with the program coming from two different network studios. According to the channel, NHL Now will feature a “fast-paced format that will include Arena Cam interviews from morning skates across the country, commentary from analysts and correspondents throughout the game, and interviews with players and team personnel.”
Elsewhere at the channel this season, two-time Stanley Cup champion Scott Gomez has joined NHL Network as an on-air analyst and will make his debut on Oct. 17. Flagship program NHL Tonight will now originate from new studio The Rink at a new, earlier time at 6p, followed by On The Fly.
In viewership news, PBR on CBS Sports on Sunday drew 2.1 million viewers to the channel, according to Nielsen. That marks the most-watched PBR telecast of the season and second most-watched over the past three years.
ESPN’s The Undefeated is set to offer A Conversation with The President: Sports, Race and Achievement, described as a student forum with President Barack Obama on Oct. 11 at 10p from North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro. SportsCenter anchor Stan Verrett will host and moderate the forum.
UFC champions Daniel Cormier and Dominick Cruz are on deck to serve as desk analysts in the FS1 studio for coverage of UFC 204: Bisping vs. Henderson 2 on Saturday. Karyn Bryant hosts in FOX Sports’ Los Angeles studios for Friday and Saturday’s weigh-in, prefight and postfight shows. Mike Goldberg and Brian Stann call the fights on FS1 live from Manchester.
HBO Sports serves up Back Nine at Cherry Hills: The Legends of the 1960 US Open, spotlighting the battle between Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus on Sunday at 10:15p on HBO2. The hour-long presentation will serve as a tribute to Arnold Palmer, who passed away Sept. 25.
ESPN Films’ 30 for 30 series hits the fall with three new documentaries beginning Oct. 18 with Phi Slama Jama, covering the University of Houston and the 983 NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship Game. The will be followed by Hit it Hard, spotlighting the career of John Daly and Catholics vs. Convicts, exploring the 1988 football game between Notre Dame and the University of Miami
Arthrex entered into a partnership with NBC Sports to offer specially-created custom animations of orthopaedic human anatomy that will be used during NBC’s Sunday Night Football and Thursday Night Football telecasts during the 2016 NFL season to help educate viewers during discussions of player injuries.

The deal sees Jeep take over Prudential Center’s parking deck with graphics on each level, including the elevators, which “simulate a ride behind the wheel of a 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited” while venue club Inside The Rock will now be known as the Jeep Frontier Club.
Meanwhile, Blaze Fast-Fire’d Pizza signed on to become the exclusive pizza of Staples Center and an official partner of the LA Kings. The company will open a restaurant at the venue on the main concourse.
Pac-12 Networks unveiled nine Pac-12 Plus events that will be streamed on Twitter over the next month as part of the new deal. The action begins with a women’s soccer match between Oregon/Colorado on Oct. 6 and includes three women’s soccer matches overall, along with four women’s volleyball matches, one men’s hockey game, and one men’s swimming and diving meet. The events will also be streamed on Pac-12.com and Pac-12 Now.
The Olympic Channel debuted docu-reality show The Z Team this month as part of its programming rollout, along with Cambodia’s Search for Glory, Gold Medal Entourage and On the Line: 100 Meters. The Z Team sees youth sports teams that receive a helping hand from a game-changing coach and Olympic legend with new episodes every Tuesday. Gold Medal Entourage premiering with three episodes on Oct. 10, with each new episode spotlighting the relationship between an Olympian and a key member of their personal support team.
The Overwatch Open reaped nearly 180 million gross minutes of video consumption for ELeague and FACEIT across TBS and Twitch, with Twitch generating 7.4 million live video streams for the event as Misfits bested Team EnVyUs to claim the prize. The Grand Finals on TBS reached 2.6 million total viewers on the network on Friday, including a 47% rise among Men 18-34 compared with the same telecast window over the previous month. On social media, the tournament generated five million social impressions on Twitter and Facebook during weeklong coverage of the event.
Valve’s Dota 2 is hitting Massachusetts with The Boston Major starting Dec. 7. Sixteen teams will compete for a $3 million prize pool at Wang Theater with open qualifiers running Oct. 23-26 and regional qualifiers spanning Oct. 27-30.
