The IOC and Fanatics locked in a deal that will see fans of the Games get access to Olympic-branded merchandise from past, present and future Olympic and Paralympic Games via the Olympic Shop. Through the Olympic Shop, fans will be able to purchase official Olympic and Paralympic Games merchandise produced by licensees and suppliers appointed by the IOC and the Organizing Committees of the upcoming Games editions, Paris 2024, Milano Cortina 2026 and LA28.

“This is an exciting launch for us, as fans from an increasing number of territories will be able to purchase official Olympic merchandising and connect with the magic of the Olympic Games ahead of each edition,” commented Timo Lumme, IOC Television & Marketing Services Managing Director. “We are looking forward to collaborating on this new shop with the Organizing Committees of Paris 2024, Milano Cortina 2026 and LA28 to engage with a broader fanbase and offer collectibles and goods that convey the values of the Olympic Movement, in line with the IOC Global Licensing Strategy.”

PROGRAMMING

Game 2 of the World Series generated a 13% viewership uptick for FOX Sports year-over year, with the Astros win notching 10,539,000 viewers. Meanwhile, FOX Sports saw Game 1 of the World Series lay claim to 17% growth in viewership on FOX to hit 10,811,000 viewers, with all platforms averaging 11,077,000 viewers for the Braves/Astros matchup. Game 1 was also the most-streamed World Series Game 1 in FOX history, with an AMA of 273,619, up 82% year over year.

ECAC Hockey is extending its rights agreement with ESPN+ to stream more than 350 games each season through the 2028-29. Every regular-season and post-season game (conference and non-conference) hosted at an ECAC Hockey venue will be streamed on ESPN+ with no blackout restrictions. That includes the annual women’s championship, and men’s championship in Lake Placid. “We’re truly excited to announce the extension of our deal with ESPN through the rest of this decade” said ECAC Hockey Commissioner Steve Hagwell. “ESPN has been a great partner for ECAC Hockey, and we look forward to growing and enhancing our relationship for the benefit of our programs and fans.”

ESPN signed JJ Redick as an NBA analyst where he will make his debut today on Nov. 3, as part of ESPN’s studio programming surrounding its Brooklyn Nets vs. Atlanta Hawks game that night. Redick will regularly contribute to a wide array of ESPN NBA studio programming, including, but not limited to, Get Up, First Take, SportsCenter, ESPN Radio shows and NBA Today. Additionally, Redick will also serve as an analyst for select NBA games on ESPN.

In other talent news, PointsBet announced a partnership with NFL and college football analyst Chris Simms to create unique and authentic betting content for distribution across NBC Sports and PointsBet platforms. Starting this week, he will offer in-depth film breakdowns on teams and players, offering greater insight for those looking to bet on NFL games and player props. PointsBet will also incorporate a weekly betting segment in the Chris Simms Unbuttoned podcast.

Toronto Raptors Vice-Chairman and President Masai Ujiri joined the new documentary series on the recently-launched Basketball Africa League as an Executive Producer. Fremantle & Passenger are producing the series, which tells the story of the creation, launch and inaugural season of the BAL, a new professional basketball league in Africa featuring 12 club teams from across the African continent.

Five-time Olympian Bernard Lagat and Olympic medalist and American record holder Deena Kastor will join fellow Olympian Carrie Tollefson as part of the broadcast team for the 50th running of the TCS New York City Marathon on Nov. 7, which will be aired live on ABC7/WABC-TV in the New York City area and on ESPN2 nationwide. The trio of Olympians will join a team of 15 commentators, led by ESPN’s John Anderson, who will serve as race-day host and play-by-play analyst for his eighth consecutive race. Both Lagat and Tollefson will join Anderson in the commentary booth. Kastor will join Lewis Johnson in covering the professional athlete races throughout the course from the women’s and men’s motos, respectively. Johnson will then join ABC7’s Sam Ryan in hosting the post-race award ceremonies for the champions.

Teton Ridge and PBR announced a reunion between The American, the richest single-day rodeo in the world, and the premier bull riding league. In 2022, the two leading properties will again team up to host The American and the 2022 PBR Global Cup USA to Arlington, Texas, and AT&T Stadium on March 5-6.

CBS Sports carries the Season One finale of its new franchise, Beyond Limits, on CBS and streaming live on Paramount+ on Saturday at 2p. The series highlights trailblazing, diverse athletes in sports where they are under-represented. The third and final episode of Season One will feature the trio of Daniel Walcott, Gemel Smith and Mathieu Joseph from the Tampa Bay Lightning, Detroit’s Cass Technical High School’s Girls Lacrosse Team, World and Olympic Champion Wrestler Jordan Burroughs, and Women’s College World Series Star Odicci Alexander.

DIRECTV is touting a big weekend for 4K lovers as FOX Sports, NBC Sports and ESPN are all producing marquee matchups spanning MLB, CFB, EPL and the NHL to fill all of DIRECTV’s 4K UHD channels. Starting Friday night, FOX Sports has Game Three of the World Series between Houston and Atlanta in 4K UHD starting at 8p as the Fall Classic moves to Atlanta for the first time. Saturday afternoon sees FOX offer 4K UHD triple header as #6 Michigan visits #8 Michigan State in the annual Big Ten clash at noon, followed by Colorado/Oregon at 3:30p and then back to Atlanta for Game Four of the World Series at 8p. Meanwhile, NBC Sports gets into the 4K UHD action with an English Premier League clash between Tottenham and Manchester United Saturday afternoon at 12:30p, followed by North Carolina at Notre Dame at 7:30p on Saturday night. ESPN offers up 4K UHD coverage of Florida State/Clemson at 3:30p followed by an NHL battle between the Minnesota Wild/Colorado Avalanche to end the night beginning at 9p.

Facebook is rebranding its parent company to the minor of “Meta,” which will oversee Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, as well as Oculus. On the sports front, new fitness offerings and other functions were revealed for the company’s Oculus Quest VR headset. Oculus is also adding VR fitness apps and features including a boxing workout to its “Supernatural” workout app, new studios in its “FitXR” program, and new features for hand-tracking fitness game “Player 22 by Rezzil.”

Financial technology brand FIS signed on as the newest partner of the Washington Nationals. As the Official Payments Technology Provider for the Washington Nationals, FIS will provide merchant processing technology to improve the ballpark experience. The partnership also includes a renovation of the ballpark’s Champions Club which features an enhanced and elevated fan experience for Nationals fans.

WWE is teaming with Blockchain Creative Labs, the new non-fungible token (NFT) business and creative studio formed by FOX Entertainment and Bento Box Entertainment, to launch an NFT marketplace for licensed digital WWE tokens and collectibles. The partnership marks Blockchain Creative Labs’ first-ever content alliance with an external property beyond FOX. ESL Gaming locked in a deal with NFT business platform Immutable X to launch an NFT platform that allows fans to buy, sell and exchange ESL Pro Tour NFT assets The league will soon unveil dates for future NFT drops and the ability to unlock exclusive perks.

Community Gaming is partnering with Riot to deliver the VALORANT Elite Showdown, a North American tier two tournament that will open play with qualifiers on Nov. 5. Overall, 32 teams from the open qualifiers will move on to the main event, where they will compete against 32 invited teams that include Andbox, T1, NRG, Immortals, Complexity, and more. The main event runs on Nov. 11, while the entire event will also be live-streamed on VALORANT’s official twitch channel.
