Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group, LLC acquired HBCUGo.TV, the leading media provider for the nation’s 105 Historically Black Colleges and Universities, from Symonds-Evans Media, LLC. The move expands AMG’s reach to the African American Community, cements it relationship with HBCUs, and provides culturally significant content to national and global audiences. As part of the deal, AMG has acquired HBCUGo.TV’s library of more than 5,000 hours of content featuring HBCU students and alumni.
PR veteran Mia Ammer exited Paramount as Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications of Paramount TV, according to Deadline. Ammer’s position was reportedly eliminated. The news comes in the wake of the Studio coming under the purview of Showtime CEO David Nevins.
Voting has begun for the 2021 “People’s Choice Awards.” Celebrating all forms of entertainment, winners are chosen entirely by the people. This year’s film field was led by “F9: The Fast Saga,” which received eight nominations including “Movie of 2021” and individual nods for Vin Diesel, Charlize Theron and John Cena. Marvel’s “Loki” scored five nominations in the TV category, including “Show of 2021,” with “Ted Lasso,” “This Is Us” and Grey’s Anatomy each garnering four. The Country Music Association announced additional performers for “The 55th Annual CMA Awards.” Jason Aldean, Carrie Underwood, Luke Combs, Miranda Lambert, Old Dominion, Chris Stapleton, Chris Young and Kane Brown will all be taking the stage. Hosted by Luke Bryan, the ceremony will be broadcast live from Bridgestone Arena in Nashville on Wednesday, November 10 at 8p on ABC.
FOX News Channel will present special live coverage of the Virginia and New Jersey gubernatorial races, as well as the New York City mayoral race on Tuesday, November 2. Beginning at 3p, Martha MacCallum will anchor “The Story” from Virginia. At 7p, chief political anchor Bret Baier (“Special Report”) and MacCallum will helm a one-hour election special, “Democracy 2021: Virginia Showdown.”
U.S. Representative Kathleen Rice led a group of Members of Congress to call on seven major cable providers to expand the availability of Jewish television programming across the country. Letters were addressed to CEOs of Altice USA, AT&T, Charter Communications, Comcast, Cox Communication, Dish Network and Verizon Communications. An excerpt from the letter read, “Culturally specific programming fosters community and, for those outside the community, exposure to Jewish programming can be an important and effective antidote to the scourge of hate and bigotry agains Jewish people.”
Tisha Campbell and Tichina Arnold will return to co-host the 2021 “Soul Train Awards,” bowing Sunday, November 28 at 8p on BET and BET Her from the world-famous Apollo. Celebrating the best in soul music and the iconic show’s 50th anniversary, the event recognizes top talent in soul, R&B and hip hop.
NBCUniversal News Group inked a multi-year exclusive partnership with the Aspen Ideas Festival, the annual gathering of policy and political leaders in Aspen, CO. The plans will bring the festival events to NBC News, MSNBC, CNBC and streamer Peacock, as well as other news brands. NBCU News Group and the Aspen Institute will work together to create content for the event, which takes place June 25 to July 1. NBCU is taking the place of longtime media partner The Atlanta.

Scott Evans, host of USA Network’s “America’s Big Deal,” inked an overall talent and development deal with NBCUniversal, expanding his on-screen and offscreen work with the company. He’ll work with networks including NBC, USA Network, Bravo, E!, Oxygen, Syfy, Universal Kids and Peacock for unscripted hosting opportunities. The pact also includes a first-look at projects to develop as a producer.
Choreographer Laurieann Gibson, who’s worked with Lady Gaga, Megan Thee Stallion and Britney Spears, partnered with Jeff Collins and Catalina Content to develop “ICON.” The talent competition series aims to discover and cultivate the next global pop icon. Gibson will serve as an executive producer and a main judge on the series.
Magilla Entertainment has struck an exclusive, multi-year overall deal with Chris Deaux and his production label Two Fifteen West Entertainment. Magilla and Deaux will co-produce a variety of unscripted series and specials, which are already underway at Peacock, AMC, BET and HGTV.
Cobra Kai creators Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg and Josh Heald’s Counterbalance Entertainment and Sony Pictures Television acquired the rights to Marc Fisher’s Washington Post article “Powerball mystery: Someone in this tiny town won $ 731 million. Now everyone wants a piece of it.” According to Deadline, the group are adapting the story into a half-hour comedy series with Sony TV. The search for a writer is currently underway.
“Mexican Beverly Hills” is being developed for CBS by Erick Galindo, Aaron Izek and Wilmer Valderrama, reports Deadline. The family comedy is inspired by Galindo’s New York Times essay of the same name. It explores the story of a working-class Mexican-American family that moves to the wealthy, heavily Latinx city of Downey.
Casting Notes: E.R. Fightmaster (“Shrill”) set to recur as first nonbinary doctor on ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” …Forest Whitaker, Marion Cotillard, Tobey Maguire and Eiza Gonzales have joined the cast of Apple TV+’s anthology drama, “Extrapolations.”

HLN’s “Real Life Nightmare” bows its third season on Sunday, November 14 at 9p on CNN Headline News. The docu-series centers on personal mysteries and unexplained deaths that continue to baffle investigators and horrify those left behind.
Documentary “Black And Missing” premieres Tuesday, November 23 on HBO with back-to-back episodes, reports Deadline. The four-part series from Geeta Gandbhir and Soledad O’Brien the doc focuses on Black missing persons cases and exposes the stark disparity in media coverage of white and black missing persons.
JoJo Siwa searches for the next big girl group on reality dance competition “Siwas Dance Pop Revolution.” The new Peacock Original series debuts Monday, November 15 at 7p on YTV.
AMC+ released the trailer for “Anna.” The original drama, created and directed by Italian filmmaker and author Niccolo Ammaniti, and inspired by one of his best-selling novels, tells the story of a ravaged world destroyed by a virus that kills adults, but spares children. The series makes its U.S. premiere on AMC+ on Thursday, November 18.
Meanwhile, Netflix debuted it trailer for “True Story.” The seven-episode limited series from “Narcos” and “Narcos” Mexico” showrunner Eric Newman, stars Kevin Hart and Wesley Snipes as brothers facing intense and dangerous situations. It premieres globally on Wednesday November 24.

Showtime kicks off its multiyear Hip Hop 50 initiative with three documentaries celebrating the history of the storied music genre. “Video Music Box” (wt), premiering Friday, December 3 at 8p, chronicles the longest-running music video show in the world. “Ricky Powell: The Individualist,” debuting Friday, December 10 at 8p, centers on the against-all-odds story of the NYC photographer. “Rolling Like Thunder,” bowing Friday, December 17 at 8p, delves into the underground world and history of freight train and graffiti culture, uncovering stories of myth-like artists, remarkable romances and more.

MNI Targeted Media, a division of the Meredith Corporation, announced the results of a survey of marketers regarding the sources they rely on for business purposes. It revealed that a majority preferred social media over traditional media and high-profile individuals with established digital presences. Overall, the survey found 50% (220 respondents out of 401) rely on Facebook, first; followed by Instagram and YouTube.
WWE struck an exclusive multiyear deal with Fox Entertainment’s Blockchain Creative Labs to launch an NFT marketplace for licensed digital WWE tokens and collectibles. As per the agreement, WWE will create “authentic NFTs that celebrate the company’s entire catalog of digital assets.” It includes iconic moments, WWE Superstars and tentpole events like WrestleMania and SummerSlam. The marketplace’s name and launch date will be announced in the upcoming weeks.

Redbox secured a deal with Team Whistle to have their Palomino Media Group handle direct sales for the advertiser-supported streaming video platform. Redbox has been aggressively expanding its free streaming efforts and recently surpasses 120 FAST channels with additions including Yahoo! Finance, 10 local news channels from Cox Media Group and children’s channel Happy Kids.
Haystack News launched a live-stream of Newsy, the national news network owned by the E.W. Scripps Company. The opinion-free net serves audiences with 14 news bureaus across the country, providing 17 hours of daily information.
PBS is offering a free collection of streaming content via its PBS Video App and PBS.org throughout November. Among the highlights: “The Oratorio: A Documentary with Martin Scorsese” bowing Friday, November 5 at 9p followed by “Da Ponte’s Oratorio: A Concert for New York” at 10p; INDEPENDENT LENS “Ferguson Rise” on Monday, November 8 at 10p; and VOCES on PBS “American Exile” on Tuesday, November 16 at 10p.
Tubi’s upcoming list of November titles features its first-ever original animated series. “The Freak Brothers,” starring Wood Harrelson, Tiffany Haddish, Pete Davidson and John Goodman, follows the adventures of three stoners and their sardonic cat. It bows Sunday, November 14.
Discovery+ released its November programming slate. Holiday Central hub launching on Monday, November 1, includes scripted feature “Candy Coated Christmas” with Ree Drummond amd “Home Town: Ben’s Holiday Workshop.” The network also welcomes Kendra Wilkinson, embarking on a new real estate career, in “Kendra Sells Hollywood,” bowing Wednesday, November 17. Banijay UK is launching scripted label Double Dutch. Led by “Intergalactic” and “Good Karma Hospital” producer Iona Vrolyk, who has been a development executive for Banijay-owned Tiger Aspect, it will target popular, character-led returning series.

The loss of champion contestant Matt Amodio on October 11, after a 38 game winning streak, saw “Jeopardy” (5.7 Live+SD national Nielsen rating, down 3% from the week before) weaken in the standings. However the show held onto first place among all syndicated shows. “Family Feud” (5.5, up 6%) was a close second.
On the talk show front “Live with Kelly and Ryan” (1.7, up 6%) jumped into a tie with “Dr. Phil” (1.7, down 6%). “Kelly Clarkson” (0.9, steady) remained at its season high, catching up to “Ellen DeGeneres” (0.9, down 10%) for third place. “Drew Barrymore” (0.5, steady) attracted an average of more than 700,000 viewers each day, outperforming “Nick Cannon” (0.4, unchanged with 465,000 daily viewers). “Entertainment Tonight” (2.1, up 5%) was the only magazine moving up.
