PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Seth Meyers is developing two comedy series for NBC. AP Bio, written and executive produced by Saturday Night Live’s Michael Patrick O’Brien, is about a former philosophy professor who teaches a high school advanced placement class and uses his students to get back at those he feels have wronged him. The other untitled series, written and co-executive produced by Late Night With Seth Meyers writer Amber Ruffin, is about a sibling singing group from the 1980s, now forced to write commercial jingles.

A&E Network has picked up Born This Way for a third season. The series, which won the 2016 Emmy Award for Outstanding Unstructured Reality Series last week, provides an intimate look at a group of young men and women with Down syndrome as they pursue their dreams and explore friendships, romance, and work.

D.V. DeVincentis
, who won a producing and writing Emmy for The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, inked an overall television production deal with FX Productions. DeVincentis will develop, write and produce television projects exclusively for all TV services and platforms.

S.W.A.T. has received a pilot production commitment from CBS, reports Deadline. The drama is loosely inspired by the 2003 movie that was based on the 1975 TV series.
The project is executive produced by Shawn Ryan, who created The Shield, Neal H. Moritz (Preacher), Justin Lin (Scorpio) and Aaron Rahsaan Thomas (Friday Night Lights).

CBS is also developing Dr. Death, a drama starring Alan Cumming (The Good Wife). The series, based on the upcoming book of the same name by James Patterson, follows a former CIA operative (Cumming) who has since built a normal life as a professor and writer, but is pulled back into his old life when the NYPD needs his help to stop a serial killer.

MTV has ordered Krawl, a drama from John Swetnam, producer Henrik Bastin and Fabrik Entertainment’s Melissa Aouate. Project centers on a young woman whose social media account begins showing her posts a day in advance.

Great American Country renewed Going RV for a 14-episode fourth season. Premiering February 2017, the show follows families who decide to ditch ordinary daily life for an adventure on the open road.

TNT ordered drama pilot Hinges from John Wells Productions in association with Warner Horizon Television and Turner’s Studio T. Project dissects middle-class suburbia through the lens of two sets of neighbors whose lives are upturned in the wake of a scandal.

Allen Bain’s Bainframe has acquired Allen Steele’s Coyote series of books to develop into a TV series which Bain will EP. The project is set in the not-too-distant future, in an America that has slipped into fascism.

UP has transitioned from "family friendly" to "family focused" in a rebrand that led to growth for four straight quarters. "We are happily surprised at how quickly we have see positive results," says Amy Winters, network EVP and GM. "Our awareness is at its highest point in the network’s history, our median age is down 10 years." What were the keys to executing the new vision? Winters shares UP’s strategy in the latest Cynsiders: http://www.cynopsis.com/cyncity/up-is-on-the-rise/.

Lone Star Restoration, an unscripted series following expert Brent Hull, bows Monday, October 3 at 10p on History. “Brent not only brings his incredible acumen and expertise to ‘Lone Star Restoration,’ but he also reminds us of how culturally significant it is to both preserve and restore these historical structures,” said Paul Cabana, EVP and Head of Programming, History.
