While it’s already been reported that Twitter was aiming launch an Apple TV app, it looks like the company’s plans were more ambitious than anyone knew. Twitter has officially launched apps not only for Apple TV, but also for Microsoft’s Xbox One and Amazon’s Fire TV. Twitter landed the live-streaming rights to NFL Thursday Night Football games back in April. Since then, the company has secured live content deals with the other three major sports leagues, as well as Bloomberg Media and other news orgs. Suffice to say, Jack Dorsey is trying to turn Twitter into cord-cutters’ go-to live TV hub – but that’s a tough sell if Twitter’s content can’t actually be viewed on TV. Looks like Twitter has headed off that issue – and just in time for today’s Thursday Night Football game. (Go Jets.)
On Tuesday, Adblock Plus announced that it would launch a new ad exchange product, and that Google and AppNexus would play a role in selling ads. It appears that Google and AppNexus would beg to differ. In a statement, a Google spokeswoman said that “We have no involvement in their program and this is not a business we want to be a part of.” The tech giant also moved to sever ties with ComboTag, the ad tech company that was helping to create the new exchange. A spokeswoman for AppNexus, likewise, confirmed that it would be suspending its relationship with ComboTag and Adblock plus.
In its few years as a full-fledged original content provider, Netflix has done a whole lot more greenlighting than canceling. But alas, one Netflix original just met its end. The streaming giant has canceled Sony Pictures Television’s Bloodline. The family drama’s upcoming third season will be its last. Netflix has also cut season 3’s episode total from 13 to 10. The season will become available next year.

The cable TV ad management company Viamedia announced that it has added a new feature to AdMessenger, the scrolling text product that the company began offering in the past year. The new feature, called AdMessenger “Tap-To-Expand,” enables mobile users to tap on an advertiser’s scrolling text and pull up an interactive full-screen ad that sheds more light on the advertiser’s offering. “In the U.S., the typical multi-screen user consumes nearly 7.5 hours of video a day,” said Viamedia President and CEO Mark Lieberman in a statement. “This includes 151 minutes on their Smartphones, 147 minutes watching TV and another 43 minutes a day on their tablets. When talking to our customers, we found a common need to reach consumers on every screen, and we’ve developed a product suite specifically focused on reaching today’s multi-screen consumers.”

USA TODAY parent Gannett has invested an undisclosed amount of money into the digital media company Digg. The investment came as part of a Series C funding round, which Gannett led. According to a statement, Gannett sees the investment as a chance to expand on its content distribution capabilities. Those ambitions include expanding to messaging platforms. (Digg launched on Slack and Facebook Messenger this year.) Digg will now gain access to local content from USA Today Network; it’ll be used to geo-target users and improve personalization. The investment comes just as Gannett is engaged in talks with Tronc (formerly Tribune Media), which is considering a $673 million takeover bid from Gannett, according to Bloomberg.

Canvs, the language analytics company that measures emotions around content, analyzed tweets about TV and streaming programming from Sept. 7-13 using Twitter data from Nielsen. Trends and insights from the 4,538,390 tweets expressing a specific Emotional Reaction (ER) include:
– OWN brought the waterworks: 3% of viewers who said they were moved to tears while watching TV across all networks did because of OWN’s Queen Sugar.
– The NFL brought NBC thrills: 22% of all viewers who expressed excitement about watching TV did because they were watching football on NBC.
– ABC brought the beauty: The Miss America Competition and Dancing With the Stars helped give ABC 11.4% of all beautiful expressions for the week.
– Oh, nuts: 5.8% of people who said what they were watching on TV was crazy were turned into the Commander-in-Chief Forum on NBC.

Back in March, Hearst and Verizon teamed up to form a digital video venture aimed at younger viewers. Now that venture has a name: Complex Networks. The company combines the young male-skewing Complex Media (owned by Hearst and Verizon) and two digital video networks, both of which were recently launched: the news-comedy channel Seriously.TV and the politically conservative lifestyle brand RatedRed.com. Rich Antoniello, formerly the CEO of Complex Media, has been put in charge of the venture.
