E! ordered a reality show following the life of singer/Dancing with the Stars contestant Christina Milian, with Kelsey Grammer (Frasier) onboard as an exec producer. Christina Millan Turned Up (wt), from Banca Studio and G3 Productions in association with Lionsgate Television, is slated for a 2015 premiere.
The Big Four networks plan to carry President Obama’s address tonight, as the Commander-in-Chief lays out his plans to confront terrorist group ISIS. The President will speak at 9p from the State Floor of the White House, said press secretary Josh Earnest.
Cable providers had better not skimp on Shark Week, according to a new study from Beta Research that had 18 percent of respondents saying they would “definitely” switch providers if they couldn’t access their favorite networks. Percentage of adults rating the top nine “important”: Discovery (57 percent), History (56 percent), TNT (55 percent), A&E (53 percent), USA (53 percent), Weather Cannel (52 percent), TBS (52 percent), AMC (50 percent) and Food Network (50 percent). Study was conducted in June 2014, with a national sample of 2202 cable subscribers, measuring 46 basic cable nets.
The Television Critics Association named its choices for the most promising shows for Fall 2014. Winners of its members poll are: Most Promising New Show: Fox’s Gotham; Most Promising New Comedy: ABC’s Black-ish; Most Promising New Drama on TV: Gotham again, and Potential New Breakout Star: Jane the Virgin’s Gina Rodriguez in a landslide.
The ABC Owned Television Stations expanded its agreement with Rentrak for the measurement company’s Advance Demographics ratings. Rentrak also has deals with CBS, NBC and Fox owned stations.
ABC has put in development Nuclear Family, from writers/exec producers Pete Huyck and Alex Gregory (King of the Hill). The Dark Toy Entertainment and ABC Studios comedy focuses on a couple ill-equipped to deal with the eight children they adopted.
The Curse of the Fuentes Women has received a script commitment with penalty from NBC. The hour-long project about a man who washes up on a Miami beach claiming to be the long-lost member of a family comes from Silvio Horta’s (Ugly Betty) Silent H. Productions and Warner Bros. TV.
Independence Day director Roland Emmerich and actor Keanu Reeves will co-exec produce Matrix-y sci-fi series New Angeles, about a man who escapes into a virtual reality world. Emmerich will direct the pilot; his Centropolis and Reeves’ Company Films will produce, and Gregg Hurwitz will write and exec produce.
OWN placed an eight-ep order for 2 Fat 2 Fly, following best friends running a food truck business. Docu-series from Paperny Entertainment is set for a Saturday night debut in early 2015.
History has started production of Gangland Undercover. Slated to air in 2015, series is based on Charles Falco’s 2013 memoir, Vagos, Mongols, and Outlaws: My Infiltration of America’s Deadliest Biker Gangs. The six-episode first season will be produced by Cineflix; A+E Networks has worldwide distribution rights.
Ron Perlman (Sons of Anarchy) returns to host the SAG Foundation’s 2nd annual New York Golf Classic on Monday, September 29 at the Trump National Golf Club in Westchester. The fundraiser assists the foundation’s Catastrophic Health Fund and Assistance Programs.
Two men who returned from near death “with a sudden sensitivity to the spirit world” investigate the afterlife in new Destination America docu-series, Ghost Stalkers. Groff Entertainment and Bray Entertainment production premieres Sunday, October 19 at 10p as part of the net’s week-long Ghostober stunt.
Choirs in crisis get a hand from gospel superstar Deitrick Haddon and Grammy winner Michelle Williams in Oxygen’s Fix My Choir, premiering Wednesday, November 5 at 10p. The uplifting music series is part of the net’s “very real” rebrand, launching Tuesday, October 7 across all platforms.
Netflix is entering the docu-series game with Chef’s Table, visiting the kitchens of renowned culinary artists. Six-parter is slated for a 2015 premiere.
The creator of the Bananas Foster Corndog stars in upcoming Cooking Channel series Offbeat Eats with Jim Stacy, premiering Friday, October 17 at 9:30p. Stacy tours eccentric spots across the country in “a roadmap to restaurants that are a little hard to find but always worth the journey.”
Unimas series El Chivo (The Goat) blends fact and fiction to tell the story of Latin American dictator Rafael Trujillo. Premiering Tuesday, September 23 at 10p, the drama based, on the novel La Fiesta del Chivo by Mario Vargas Llosa, is a co-production of RTI Colombia and Televisa.
America by the Numbers with Maria Hinojosa, premiering on World Channel Thursday, October 2 and PBS Saturday, October 4, explores how dramatic changes in demographics are changing mainstream America. Produced by Futuro Media Group and presented by WGBH Boston.
Among the formats FremantleMedia will launch are “devilishly different” game show Heaven or Hell; reality competition Master Athletes; culinary game show My Mom Cooks Better Than Yours and panel show format Virtually Famous.

HBO set Sunday, November 9 as the premiere date for three returning shows: The Newsroom’s third and final season three at 9p; The Comeback, returning for a sophomore run after a nine-year hiatus at 10p and season three of Getting On at 10:30p.
Instant Mom was renewed for season three, ahead of its season two premiere on Thursday, October 2 at 8p. “Instant Mom has proven to be the perfect breakout series for families to enjoy together on Nick at Nite,” said Nickelodeon president of content development and production Russell Hicks.
Comcast will carry Univision Deportes Network starting in October. Xfinity customers who subscribe to Digital Preferred or XFinity Latino will have access. The sports channel “will be a great addition to our growing lineup of networks for Hispanic customers,” said Marcien Jenckes, EVP consumer services at Comcast.

Antiques Roadshow is in the market for a new automotive sponsor, after Toyota and Subaru sat in the driver’s seat for eight years. “Sponsors love Antiques Roadshow not only for its large audience, but because it is the only sponsorship on PBS that brings brands face-to-face with thousands of passionate fans,” said Suzanne Zellner, vice president of WGBH Boston’s Sponsorship Group for Public Television, the corporate sponsorship sales organization for Antiques Roadshow. “The ability to engage with prospects at the summer taping events, which draw thousands of avid fans, is a unique opportunity for automotive brands to display their cars and generate leads for local dealerships.” PBS series enters season 19 in January.
Alexa Davalos (Mob City) will star in Amazon pilot The Man in the High Castle. Project is based on Philip K. Dick’s novel set in 1962.
Rami Malek (24) landed the lead in USA drama pilot Mr. Robot, about a vigilante computer hacker, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Project comes from Universal Cable Productions.
Broadway vet Kelli O’Hara (South Pacific) will play Mrs. Darling in NBC’s live production of Peter Pan. Allison Williams plays Peter, with Christopher Walken taking on Captain Hook.

Syndicated Meredith Vieira premiered Monday with a preliminary 1.7/5 share metered market primary run average, up 41 percent versus its time slots last year. Among W25-54, the new talk show averaged .6/4.
Sunday’s Ray Donovan delivered the crime drama’s highest ratings ever, with 1.63 million viewers, up 10 percent versus last week, besting its season two premiere by 33 percent.
Season five of HBO’s Boardwalk Empire launched Sunday with 2.4 million viewers, even with its season four bow last year and up 9 percent versus the season four finale. The same night, the season one finale of HBO’s The Leftovers matched its season average 1.5 million viewers.
Food Network ranked third among ad-supported cable nets on Sunday, with an average .7 rating and 638,000 impressions among A25-54 from 8p-12a. Rachael vs. Guy: Kids Cook-Off posted .7 and was the number two program at 8p. The Great Food Truck Race matched that rating to land in the number three slot at 9p, while Cutthroat Kitchen posted a .8 rating to come in third at 10p.
For the second consecutive week, TBS ranked as basic cable’s number network in primetime delivery of A18-49. Sullivan & Son averaged 1.9 million viewers in Live+3 delivery, up 2 percent versus the prior week, 1.0 million A18-49 and 522,000 A18-34 (up 9 percent).
