YouTube launched a new destination for video gamers, with personalized content based on a user’s favorite games, integrating content from video game channels they already subscribe to. The YouTube Gaming app will be phased out by March 2019. “We have a strong and vibrant audience on the YouTube Gaming app, but the amount of gamers we are able to reach is far bigger on YouTube,” said YouTube director of product management Christina Chen in a blog post. “After all, YouTube is where more than 200 million gamers come to engage with your favorite games and creators every day, watching over 50 billion hours of gaming content in the last 12 months alone.”

 SOCIAL

Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel was a winner on social Emmy night, but despite no big wins for The Handmaid’s Tale this year, the Hulu drama ranked  #5 based on ListenFirst’s Interest Score, with a 69% jump in organic interest from the day before. “We’re seeing some interesting trends in awards season, with the OTT providers really starting to drive fan engagement on social,” said Meghan Cahill, media lead, ListenFirst. “There are the heavy hitters like Game of Thrones that will always have a ton of engagement, but when you look at organic interest, which isn’t swayed by the social community size of a program or marketing spend, newer cable and OTT programs are outshining the broadcast networks.” Top five shows on Emmy night on ListenFirst’s Interest ranking were Thrones, FX’s American Crime Story, Mrs. Maisel, Netflix’s Stranger Things and Handmaid’s Tale.

E!’s Live from the Red Carpet multi platform coverage of the 2018 Emmys Monday delivered 40 million total engagements across TV, digital and social platforms, +10% vs. last year.  On social, E!’s coverage ranked #1 across all platforms; E!’s Instagram videos/stories helped lead the way with 12 million engagements.
