Google Ads is rolling out a process called “confidential matching” that limits advertisers’ personal data collection, while enabling optimal ad targeting. In addition to protections for customers’ information, technical assurances include transparency into a product’s code and the ability to receive proof, or “attestation,” that data is processed as intended. “In line with our privacy principles, we’re committed to making confidential computing and other complementary technologies accessible to everyone,” wrote Kamal Janardhan, Senior Director of Product Management, Measurement at Google, in a blog post.

OpenAI announced a new AI model, Open AI o.1 – code name Strawberry that can reason through a problem by spending more time considering all parts of a query, and fact check itself. “o1 is trained with RL to ‘think’ before responding via a private chain of thought,” wrote Noam Brown, a research scientist at Open AI, on X. “The longer it thinks, the better it does on reasoning tasks. This opens up a new dimension for scaling. We’re no longer bottlenecked by pretraining. We can now scale inference compute too.”

Pay up, ruled an EU court in Google’s attempt to overturn an antitrust penalty of $2.17 billion imposed in 2017. Google was accused of favoring its own price-comparison service in search results, putting competitors at a disadvantage. “By today’s judgment, the Court of Justice dismisses the appeal and thus upholds the judgment of the General Court,” said the court in a press release.

Spotify is taking steps to give parents more control over how their children use the service. A new feature is being offered as a pilot program in Denmark, New Zealand, and Sweden in which parents and guardians are able to better tailor the content that is available to young listeners via in-app controls, like managing the playback of Canvas, videos, and content labeled as explicit. Parents will also be able to decide whether a young listener can play certain artists or tracks with Spotify’s new control feature.

“Thursday Night Football” on Prime Video includes a new set of AI-powered innovations called Prime Insights aimed at enhancing the NFL viewing experience. New features include:
· Pressure Alert, an AI-powered model that tracks defenders attacking the offensive backfield during live action and highlights those that are in position to disrupt the play
· Defensive Vulnerability, using a proprietary machine learning model to analyze defensive and offensive formations, and highlight where the offense will—or should—attempt to attack
· Coverage ID, using an AI model combined with live player tracking data to identify the defensive scheme (e.g. Zone, Man) for fans in real time before the snap.“
At Amazon, we’re uniquely positioned to accelerate the integration of AI into our live events, given the in-house expertise we’re able to collaborate with and the next-generation compute power that AWS provides.” said Jared Stacy, Director of Live Sports Production, Prime Video. “We consistently push the teams to use AI and computer vision to deliver enhancements that will be meaningful to fans.”

Synamedia has launched Senza, a cloud-based platform that lowers costs and eliminates the traditional technology barriers to bring more viewing experiences to TV screens in the home as well as out-of-home. “Senza flips the accepted economics of TV on its head with its Internet-based framework,” said Synamedia CEO Paul Segre. “It eliminates the need for specialist developers supporting a technologically limited and fragmented ecosystem and enables us to think of a TV screen as an Internet greenfield.”

The Brandtech Group has unveiled initiatives to promote and set boundaries for the ethical use of generative AI. These include a blueprint for creating an ethical Gen AI policy, and proprietary technology that tackles bias in foundation models called “Bias Breaker.” “We believe all companies that use Gen AI should commit to what they will and won’t use it for, and be transparent about this,” said Brandtech Group Partner and Head of Emerging Technology Rebecca Sykes. “We are committed to being an active participant in shaping a more responsible and ethical future of AI in marketing and advertising.”

Meta made a change to Instagram Ads. Before August 19, 2024, developers could not create Instagram reminder ads that used some features available via Meta Ads Manager but not via Marketing API, noted Meta in a post last week, adding, “This lack of parity created unwanted friction for our partners and their customers who wanted to run reminder ads.” In response to that feedback, Instagram reminder ads can now be delivered to Instagram Feed, Stories, and Reels placement when created using Instagram Marketing API, allowing developers to reach people on Instagram Reels placement with their reminder ads. Developers can also use “event start time” and “date” to surface relevant information on other ad types and determine when reminders are delivered.

Upwave has partnered with The Trade Desk to bring advertisers brand campaign highlights, actionable recommendations to optimize campaigns in-flight, and on-demand, AI-generated reporting. “This marks a pivotal moment for Upwave and our mission to revolutionize brand measurement,” said Chris Kelly, Upwave CEO. “By integrating our advanced brand measurement solutions with The Trade Desk’s powerful platform, we’re setting a new standard for how advertisers can understand and optimize their Brand Outcomes.”

Imagine Communications announced the integration of xG Linear with Salesforce Media Cloud, enabling customers to leverage expanded media solutions aimed at optimizing linear revenue and accelerating the growth of total TV ad trading. “As the media industry continues to evolve, the combined strengths of Imagine and Salesforce Media Cloud will empower broadcasters and TV operators to maximize profitability in their core linear business through optimization and blend the advertising models of TV and digital to create a new, optimized ad model for CTV,” said Rob Malcolm, GM of Ad Tech, Imagine Communications.

Innovid announced the launch of its in-platform QR code solution, allowing advertisers to create, deliver, measure, and optimize QR codes across CTV, digital video, and mobile all within Innovid’s platform. “As coveted programming like live sports continues to shift from linear to digital channels, brands are increasingly investing in advanced creative ad formats to engage with and convert audiences,” said Dan Mouradian, SVP, Global Client Solutions, Innovid. “To take advantage of the opportunities to drive engagement with viewers, advertisers cannot be hampered by the time and resources it takes to work with numerous point solutions across QR code management and scan data. Our all-in-one QR code solution has solved that – giving advertisers a better understanding of customer interactions, valuable insights into ad performance, and the ability to optimize in-flight.”

LG Ad Solutions is launching Innovation Labs, a division that will focus on developing breakthrough technologies for CTV advertising, content personalization, and hyper-customization for viewers. “From planning and scheduling to segmentation, personalization, delivery, and reporting there are many new technologies at our disposal, which create opportunities to evolve the ad business,” said Chief Technology Officer Dave Rudnick, who is leading the effort. “This is why we created Innovation Labs — to test new strategies and collaborate with companies, startups, and technologies in a simulated ecosystem, enabling us to validate these models before integrating them into our business. We aim to push the boundaries of CTV advertising and redefine how viewers interact with content and ads while making the experience as seamless and engaging as possible.”

Samba TV’s standard and custom audience segments have been integrated into FreeWheel’s Audience Manager, a platform that enables publishers to unlock faster audience activation across screens. FreeWheel clients are now able to activate audiences that use Samba TV data from 38 million US TVs, and can create custom targeting segments based on TV consumption behaviors, content exposure, and demographics with a 24-hour turnaround.

KERV announced a strategic partnership with VIZIO to expand its interactive and shoppable CTV advertising capabilities. The partnership aims to create more engaging experiences for viewers, and help brands shorten the path to purchase while building brand awareness, intent and loyalty. “Together we are further enhancing VIZIO’s capabilities in interactive advertising, providing brands end-to-end solutions that engage audiences with innovative experiences that deliver performance and conversion,” said Brad Quinn, SVP of Publisher Partnerships at KERV. “As we continue to innovate, our partnership will help unlock new commerce opportunities and data-driven insights across interactive ads, with an aim to raise the standard for engagement and effectiveness in the industry.”

STREAMING

Streaming technology company Brightcove introduced the Brightcove AI Suite, designed for content creation, audience growth and engagement, increased revenue, and improved business efficiency. “Generative AI is transforming how companies create content and how users engage, and we believe it will drive a boom in video content and its consumption,” said Marc DeBevoise, CEO of Brightcove. “By listening to our customers and analyzing their businesses and use cases, we built the Brightcove AI Suite to address their needs.”

Quickplay announced a new partnership with TelevisaUnivision for its end-to-end native platform to enhance the company’s Univision NOW App. Quickplay enables the creation of cohorts based on trends in content usage, location and device, providing opportunities for personalized content recommendations and relevant advertising.
