Facebook has been hit with antitrust investigations in New York, Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee and the District of Columbia. “I am proud to be leading a bipartisan coalition of attorneys general in investigating whether Facebook has stifled competition and put users at risk,” said New York Attorney General Letitia James. “We will use every investigative tool at our disposal to determine whether Facebook’s actions may have endangered consumer data, reduced the quality of consumers’ choices, or increased the price of advertising.” A separate investigation of Google’s practices, joined by “perhaps more than 40 attorneys general,” according to the Wall Street Journal, is expected to be announced outside the U.S. Supreme Court today.
In more friendly Facebook news, the social media giant launched its Facebook Dating service in the U.S. last week, allowing users to integrate Instagram posts, and by year’s end Facebook and Instagram Stories, into their Dating profiles. A “Secret Crush” feature also allows users to share a list of Facebook and Instagram followers they have their eye on, and if both users have chosen each other, they’ll be notified they’re a match.
U.S. spending on podcast advertising is expected to hit $960 million in 2020 and top $1 billion in 2022, according to IPG Mediabrands’ Magna unit. “CPMs are typically higher than what is seen in the linear broadcast space, due in part to the comparatively small podcast audience and growing demand as more advertisers across more sectors show interest in experimenting with podcasts,” said Magna. The base of podcast listeners is forecast to grow 36%, to 97 million U.S. listeners, by 2023.

Eva Longoria was one of 27 people who offered a statement to the judge sentencing Longoria’s former Desperate Housewives co-star Felicity Huffman in the college admissions scandal case. In a letter obtained by NBC News, Longoria wrote that when she started on the show, she was bullied by a co-worker. “I dreaded the days I had to work with that person because it was pure torture. Until one day, Felicity told the bully ‘enough’ and it all stopped,” shared Longoria “Felicity could feel that I was riddled with anxiety even though I never complained or mentioned the abuse to anyone.” Huffman, who pleaded guilty to mail fraud for paying $15,000 to boost her daughter’s SAT scores, is due to be sentenced on September 13.
