The European Commission is fining Google $3.5 billion for violating EU antitrust rules. The commission found that Google uses its “dominant to position” to favor its ad exchange AdX in both its publisher ad server and in its ad-buying tools. “Google must now come forward with a serious remedy to address its conflicts of interest, and if it fails to do so, we will not hesitate to impose strong remedies,” said Teresa Ribera, the commission’s EVP for Clean, Just and Competitive Transition. “Digital markets exist to serve people and must be grounded in trust and fairness.” The commission gave Google 60 days to end the “self-preferring practices.” Google told The Wall Street Journal it will appeal the decision, adding, “There’s nothing anticompetitive in providing services for ad buyers and sellers, and there are more alternatives to our services than ever before.”

Google also faced legal consequences in the US – but it could have been much worse. To resolve Google’s monopoly in search, the company is barred from exclusive contracts and must hand over its search results and other data to “qualified competitors,” ruled a judge on Tuesday. But the tech giant will not be required to divest Chrome, “nor will the court include a contingent divestiture of the Android operating system in the final judgment,” states the decision by Judge Amit P. Mehta of the US District Court for the District of Columbia. “Plaintiffs overreached in seeking forced divesture of these key assets, which Google did not use to effect any illegal restraints.” Judge Mehta put restrictions on payments that Google uses to ensure its search engine gets prime placement on smartphones in web browsers, but he did not prohibit those payments entirely. “Notwithstanding this power, courts must approach the task of crafting remedies with a healthy dose of humility,” said Judge Mehta. “This court has done so.”

Forty-five percent of the data marketers use to make business decisions is incomplete, inaccurate, or out of date, according to a study from Adverity. When CMOs were asked what would most improve marketing performance, improving data quality (30%) ranked first, ahead of automating data workflows (22%) and improving data democratization (21%). “Marketers know that to drive performance, they must first fix the fundamentals: completeness, consistency, and accuracy of their data,” said Alexander Igelsböck, CEO of Adverity. “Without this, even the most advanced analytics or AI will fall short.”

Quickplay, provider of OTT solutions, has introduced Quickplay AI Studio, a production-ready platform that helps broadcasters and streamers transform their content libraries into short-form assets at scale. The solution leverages generative AI to pinpoint and extract key moments from archives, automating short-form workflows. “The creator economy and short-form social platforms have transformed audience engagement, and broadcasters are looking for practical ways to meet the expectations of an always-on, social-first consumer,” said Paul Pastor, Co-Founder and Chief Business Officer at Quickplay. “With AI Studio, discovery, personalization, and contextual advertising are elevated across platforms. It’s like a system upgrade without the pain of a rip-and-replace.”

Comscore released new data showing a clear shift in where consumers access AI tools, as mobile reach expands and desktop usage declines. In the past three months, mobile reach (including both mobile web and native app usage) grew +5.3%, from 69.7 million to 73.4 million users, while PC usage dropped -11.1%. “The evolution of how consumers use AI tools on mobile isn’t just about convenience, it’s about behavior,” said Smriti Sharma, SVP Custom IQ, Comscore. “Leading brands are positioning AI assistants as personal, always-available companions, and users are responding. From voice commands to image inputs, users are gravitating toward AI tools that feel native to mobile environments.”

   ADVERTISING

IAB has published its AI in Advertising Use Case Map, a guide mapping real-world AI application across the advertising campaign lifecycle. The goal is to demystify AI in advertising and help the industry prioritize focus areas and evaluate opportunities, risks, and investments. Specifically, here’s what the map does:
– Organizes AI use cases by category, maturity (established vs. emerging), and description.
– Offers a shared language to benchmark adoption and identify areas for experimentation or deployment.
– Supports strategic planning, product development, education, and policy workstreams.

In-game audio advertising platform Odeeo announced the launch of SDK 3.7, expanding its platform with display banner ad support alongside audio formats. The update enables publishers to monetize through both display and audio in a single integration.

Vizrt has introduced Arena 6, a new version of live AR graphics and virtual advertising sports solution. The new AI-driven features make it easier for operators to integrate AR graphics into live broadcasts. With AI calibration, AR graphics and virtual ads stay locked to the field, and the Sports Intelligent Keyer uses ambient learning to intelligently separate foreground from background, with minimal manual input.

Keen Decision Systems announced the launch of the Keen Planning Module, a standalone media planning module that empowers agencies to forecast outcomes, optimize investment strategies, and recommend media plans without needing brand data. Built on Keen’s Marketing Elasticity Engine, the module equips agency teams to run dynamic scenario plans tailored to multiple KPIs.

Tatari announced a platform update for advertisers, including a reimagined self-serve experience that opens Tatari’s advanced capabilities to digital‑first marketers while preserving advanced features for power users at agencies and in-house marketing teams. “While much of the market runs on third‑party DSPs under the hood, Tatari is built on direct publisher rails – so brands get premium supply, fewer layers of fees, and performance they can see,” said Philip Inghelbrecht, CEO and Co‑founder of Tatari. “Combined with our measurement leadership, this is the most capable – and now the most accessible – Convergent TV platform on the market.”

   DEALS

Europe’s identity aggregator Roqad has acquired Zeotap-Data, Zeotap’s third-party audience business. “The strengths of Roqad and Zeotap-Data perfectly complement each other in addressing the critical challenges of privacy-compliant identity resolution, data onboarding, and data activation in digital advertising,” said Carsten Frien, Founder and CEO of Roqad.

OptiMine Software has been acquired by Uptempo, a marketing performance platform. The acquisition strengthens Uptempo’s analytics capabilities with OptiMine’s advanced Marketing Mix Modeling (MMM).
