Akbar Gbajabiamila has been named new permanent co-host of The Talk. The former NFL player and host of NBC’s “American Ninja Warrior” and “American Ninja Warrior Junior” will join Sheryl Underwood, Amanda Kloots and Jerry O’Connell when the CBS talker debuts its new season on Monday, September 13. Gbajabiamila had previously appeared as a guest co-host on The Talk during episodes in June and July.

Locast has logged off – permanently. Two days after a district court issued a summary judgment dismissing its argument against a copyright-infringement lawsuit brought against them by ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox, the local-TV streaming service initially said it would stop asking for donations. However, it then announced an immediate shutdown. “As a non-profit, Locast was designed from the very beginning to operate in accordance with the strict letter of the law, but in response to the court’s recent rulings, with which we respectfully disagree, we are hereby suspending operations, effective immediately,” read an email sent to the service’s registered users on Thursday.

In response to the devastation left by Hurricane Ida, HGTV is shifting its originally scheduled September season premiere of “Selling the Big Easy” to Friday, October 1 at 9 and 9:30p, and will make donations to Save the Children and American Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery Services. Through its social media platforms, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, HGTV will also invite viewers who want to help those impacted by Hurricane Ida to text HURRICANE to 707070.

It’s a wrap for Dickinson. The upcoming third season of the Apple TV+ series, starring Hailee Steinfeld, will be its last. Season 3 is set to launch on Friday, November 5.

After seven years as Head of Television at Mandeville Films, under the company’s deal at ABC Signature, Laurie Zaks is branching out and starting her own production company, Rosewood Television, reports Deadline. Zaks will remain at ABC Signature and continue to develop scripted dramas and comedies for the network and cable through Rosewood. She will also continue to executive produce projects alongside Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman.

The 2021 “CMT Artists of the Year” will return live from Nashville this year. The 90-minute special will be held at Schermerhorn Symphony Center and air live Wednesday, October 13 at 9p on CMT.

MTV renewed “Jersey Shore Family Vacation,” following a successful four-year run. The show’s fifth season will mark the official return of Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi to the cast

Disney+ has greenlit a sophomore season of “Big Shot,” the basketball dramedy led by John Stamos. Production is set to begin in 2022, with Dean Lorey returning as showrunner.

“All American” executive producer and showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll renewed her overall deal with Warner Bros. Television Group, and she’s launching her own production company, Rock My Soul Productions. The first project Okoro Carroll and Rock My Soul will be developing under the pact is a sequel to the 1989-1993 ABC drama “Life Goes On.” Okoro Carroll will write and serve as EP, with original cast members Kellie Martin and Chad Lowe serving as producers on the project. Martin will reprise her role as a grown-up Becca Thatcher.

Spider-Man star Alfred Molina is set to headline “The Pines,” an Amazon police drama from Left Bank Pictures, the producer behind “The Crown.” The eight-episode series has started production in Montreal and rural Quebec and is slated to film through December. It will launch on Amazon in territories including Canada, the U.S. and UK.

Casting notes: Rainn Wilson (“The Office”) will staropposite Zahn McClarnon and Kiowa Gordon in AMC’s western noir thriller, “Dark Winds.”

NEW & RETURNING SERIES

HBO comedy “Insecure” begins airing its fifth and final season on Sunday, October 24 at 10p. The final 10 episodes of the Issa Rae-starring series will debut weekly on HBO and be available to stream on HBO Max.

Bravo’s “Vanderpump Rules” debuts its ninth season on Tuesday, September 28 at 9p. Lisa Vanderpump and company will be back on the scene, with Brock Davies joining as the newest cast member.

“Lost Relics of the Knights Templar” premieres Wednesday, September 8 at 10p on Discovery Channel. Treasure hunters Hamilton White and Carl Cookson will be on the hunt for historical pieces.

Amazon Studios has set Thursday, November 18 as the premiere date for “The Wheel of Time.” The adaptation of Robert Jordan’s book is set in an epic world where magic exists, and can be seen only by women.

Season 47 of PBS music series “Austin City Limits” debuts Saturday, October 2. The premiere episode features country superstar Miranda Lambert and collaborators Jack Ingram and Jon Randall.

“True Crime Story: It Couldn’t Happen Here” bows Thursday, September 9 at 10p on SundanceTV and AMC+. The six-part series is hosted by small town native, advocate and actress Hilarie Burton Morgan (“One Tree Hill,” “The Walking Dead”).

It’s gold-mining time, again. Discovery’s #1-rated show, “Gold Rush,” returns for its 12th season on Friday, September 24 at 8p and will be streaming on discovery+.

A new season of “CBS Dream Team,” the network’s three-hour, Saturday morning diverse, family-friendly programming block, bows October 2 at 9a. It will include new episodes of “Lucky Dog,” “The Henry Ford’s Innovation Nation,” “Mission Unstoppable” and “Hope In the Wild.”

VICE TV’s “I Was A Teenage Felon” returns Monday, September 20 at 10p. The second season features the first female felon in opening episode “Hollywood Queen Pin.”

BYUtv released premiere dates for its fall programming. Among the highlights, “9 Years to Neptune,” a new scripted workplace comedy set in outer space and featuring puppets and live actors, bows Monday, September 27 at 7p. “An Evening with Marie,” a symphonic concert special from Marie Osmond, debuts Friday, October 1 at 9p, while limited series adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s “The Canterville Ghost” from BBC Studios Productions premieres Sunday October 31 at 9p.

“Stories from the Stage” returns to WORLD Channel for its fifth season with special episode, “Changed Forever 9/11” on Monday, September 6 at 9:30p. It features three storytellers recounting true-life events related to the aftermath of the attack.

“90 Day Bares All” is back to bare more on Sunday, September 12 on Discovery+. Host Shaun Robinson welcomes 90 Day superfans back to the set, where they get to meet personalities from across the franchise, face-to-face.

STREAMING

Tubi and BBC Studios have struck a significant content deal to bring more than 400 hours of premium programming to the FOX Entertainment free streaming service. New titles are currently available, and as of September 15, Tubi will be the U.S. streaming home to “The First Team,” starring Will Arnett (“LEGO Masters,” “Arrested Development”) and “Life,” as well as debut the Baby Cow-produced “High & Dry.” As part of the deal, Tubi will also present multiple seasons of long-running BBC series including “Antiques Roadshow,” “Atlantis,” “Misfits” and more.

“Outer Banks” was #1 on the Nielsen U.S. streaming chart for the week of August 2-8, scoring nearly twice the viewing of its closest competitor. The series delivered 2.1 billion minutes of viewing across its 20 episodes, joining an elite club of shows north of the 2 billion mark in a single week, since Nielsen began reporting streaming numbers in 2020.

Free, ad-supported streaming service VUit secured a major carriage agreement with Cox Media Group. Through the deal, VUit will add channels from such major markets as Boston, Atlanta, Seattle-Tacoma, Orland and Charlotte to its platform, expanding its local news coverage to more than 150 of the 210 total markets nationwide.

Canela.TV, one of the first AVOD streaming services for U.S. Hispanics, entered into a partnership with Mixed Martial Arts sports franchise Combate Global. As per the agreement, Canela.TV will feature Combate’s MMA library on its platform and bring live MMA events to its 4 million users, weekly.

Curiosity has invested in Nebula, the world’s largest creator-owned streaming platform. With 140+ active creators, who together have 120 million+ collective YouTube subscribers, Nebula has grown to more than 350,000 paying subscribers in less than two years. Through the investment, Curiosity will attain a significant minority position in Nebula as well as board representation.

TECH TALK

Amazon is planning to expand its in-house moderation team for Amazon Web Services, according to a Reuters report. Citing two sources within the company, it says Amazon is planning to develop a proactive monitoring capability within AWS that will seek out prohibited content on AWS servers and remove it before it’s reported by users.

GOING GLOBAL

Bomanbridge Media announced licensing deals for “My Children, My Country: 20 Years in Afghanistan.” The documentary feature follows an 8-year-old boy who lives through 9/11, sees his homeland transform into a ground zero, and eventually becomes a father of three. It will premiere on Monday, September 6 on ITV and SBS Australia.

Rainmaker Content secured “Time 100” for international distribution. It marks the first time the television event has been available to worldwide audiences outside the United States.

WarnerMedia appointed Audrey Wee as the physical production lead for its growing lineup of regional entertainment content in Southeast Asia, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Wee will execute the creative vision of HBO Asia Originals. She returns to the company after a stint at Netflix.

Moonbug Entertainment inked a partnership with Cignal TV, one of the largest pay TV platforms in the Philippines, to bring “CoComelon,” “Blippi” and “Little Baby Bum” to the market.
