DAZN locked in a new global partnership with Snapchat for year-round content, from behind-the-scenes access and clips, to fight highlights and original features, to other build-up content. New show DAZN Fight Week debuted on Snapchat’s Discover platform globally on August 31, with a minimum of 18 new episodes throughout the next year hitting in the weeks leading up to the biggest fights.

PROGRAMMING

NBC Sports is assembling an all-women broadcast team to call the ShopRite LPGA Classic on October 1-3 on GOLF Channel, in a move that will mark the first-ever all-women golf broadcast team in US television history. The commentary team will feature Cara Banks handling play-by-play duties, alongside analysts Judy Rankin and Paige Mackenzie and on-course reporters Karen Stupples and Kay Cockerill, with tournament coverage produced by Beth Hutter.

ESPN re-signed SportsCenter anchor Elle Duncan to a new, multi-year contract. Duncan joined ESPN in 2016, and now co-anchors the 6p edition of SportsCenter with Kevin Negandhi on weekdays. “Elle has been a fantastic team player since joining us and has handled every assignment with professionalism and a great attitude,” said Norby Williamson, ESPN Executive Vice President, Event and Studio Production & Executive Editor. “She and Kevin Negandhi on the 6 p.m. SportsCenter are a destination for fans for breaking news and a look ahead to the big matchups of the night.”

Telemundo Deportes serves up the most extensive Spanish-language multimedia coverage ever of the Final Round of CONCACAF FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. The Octagonal kicks off Thursday with three match windows and wraps up on Sept. 8. Telemundo Deportes will present live coverage of 11 matches across Telemundo, Universo, TelemundoDeportes.com and the Telemundo Deportes app. Play-by-play commentator Andres Cantor, former Mexican National Team stars Carlos Hermosillo and Manuel Sol, and experts Copán Alvarez, Sammy Sadovnik and Eduardo Biscayart take on microphone duties.

PBR is taking the PBR World Finals to Fort Worth, Texas, and Dickies Arena starting in 2022 as part of a comprehensive schedule restructure for its premier series. The new PBR Unleash The Beast regular season will span from January-May, culminating with a seven-day championship festival, spanning two weekends of bull riding and fan activities, in Fort Worth. The changes will go into effect immediately after the 2021 PBR World Finals which will conclude the current season in Las Vegas, Nevada, at T-Mobile Arena Nov. 3-7.

FOX’s coverage of the Runhappy Travers this past weekend ran up the event’s best performance since 2015. The horse race averaged 1.089 million viewers, for an 80% markup over last year.

B/R Gaming is gearing up for the second season of Underrated, expanding the series to cover all the major sports video game franchises and hitting TBS. The series, co-produced by Bleacher Report and Mandalay Sports Media, “takes on the annual debate of player ratings in video games by empowering athletes to raise contested ratings through real life challenges.” This year’s season will feature stars from all the major sports leagues as they attempt to up their ratings in Madden NFL 21 (EA Sports), NBA 2K (2K Sports), MLB The Show (Sony Interactive Entertainment), NHL 21 (EA Sports), and FIFA 21 (EA Sports). FOX Weather, a new platform that launches in the fall, will provide 15-second weather forecasts on Tennis Channel at the U.S. Open from August 30 to September 8. Programming will see one 15-second hit each morning on Tennis Channel Live at the U.S. Open, which airs at 10a.

Paramount+ announced coverage details for the start of Asian Football Confederation (AFC) competitions in September, including the AFC Asian Qualifiers – Road to Qatar Final Round and AFC Champions League. AFC World Cup Qualifying Final Round action begins tomorrow with every match on Paramount+. Asia’s top 12 nations will compete in 60 Final Round matches through March 2022. Overall, Paramount+ will deliver more than 300 AFC club and national team matches live through 2024. Coverage will also include the AFC Women’s Asian Cup beginning in January 2022, which also serves as the qualifiers for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia/New Zealand 2023, while coverage of the AFC Asian Cup China 2023 begins in June 2023.

Microsoft and 343 Industries are giving Halo esports an overhaul and revealed the esports teams who will be competing in the Halo Championship Series featuring Halo: Infinite. On deck will be Cloud9, eUnited, Faze Clan, Fnatic, G2 Esports, NAVI, Sentinels, Spacestation Gaming, and Team Envy. Teams were selected based on ‘significant funding’ they will invest in the Halo ecosystem through salaries to players, coaches, managers, and content creation. In addition, Microsoft and 343 Industries will also produce a Grassroots HCS initiative that partners with content creators and tournament organizers.

Steaming stalwart/content creator Benjamin “DrLupo” Lupo revealed that he will be taking his content to YouTube Gaming and will now livestream exclusively on the YouTube platform in a new deal. “I am incredibly fortunate to be able to do what I love and even more grateful to be able to give back to causes that I care about the most,” Lupo said. “YouTube not only allows me to continue creating content and growing my community, but through this partnership, YouTube will help me as I expand my brand through other entertainment initiatives. The 2021 League of Legends World Championship will take place in Iceland, according to Dot Esports. The decision comes after Riot Games confirmed last week that the event was being moved from China to Europe due to the pandemic and potential issues with getting all players into the country.

Riot Games’ European Masters welcomed Amazon as the Naming Partner of the European Masters this Summer 2021, and for the year 2022 in a new deal. Amazon will work with European Masters to create a
“unified shopping experience” for EU Masters fans, and will explore how to create a destination for viewers looking to express their fandom of the tournament and its participating teams. As part of the collaboration, the European Masters will be renamed the Amazon European Masters.

Longtime CBS Sports director Bob Fishman, who has directed nearly every sport televised by the Network, will retire following the 2022 NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Championship after 50 years at CBS. As part of the announcement, CBS Sports veteran director Mark Grant will succeed Fishman as the Network’s lead director for college basketball, including the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.
