VH1 cancelled Hindsight after one season, despite having renewed the series in March. “In this overcrowded and rapidly changing climate, we need to carve out VH1’s distinct place in the scripted marketplace and deliver the biggest audience possible for our series,” said the net. “As a result, we’re no longer moving forward with the show.” The season one finale drew 249,000 viewers, down from 367,000 for the show’s premiere.
Another one bites the dust: USA canceled freshman medical drama Complications. The net’s other summer series, Mr. Robot, was renewed before its season premiere.
Former Olympic softball player Jessica Mendoza slid into Curt Schilling’s Sunday Night Baseball analyst slot on ESPN this weekend. On Tuesday, Schilling was suspended until September 6 for a tweet comparing Muslims and Nazis. Mendoza made ESPN history on August 24 as the first female MLB analyst for the net’s Monday Night Baseball.
Digital adoption is widespread, acknowledges Nielsen’s “Home Entertainment Consumer Trends” report, but only 12 percent of TV show and movie viewers have gone digital-only. Another nugget: respondents reported going to the theater less and watching fewer movies, in favor of subscription streaming and watching content for free. Data was collected March 21-March 30.
Fox midseason drama The Frankenstein Code has had another name change. The drama about a man brought back to life by scientists, first dubbed Frankenstein, is now called Lookinglass. Series is written by Rand Ravich (Crisis) and exec produced by Howard Gordon and Michael Cuesta, who directed the pilot.
Branded content agency Ingenuity has launched with plans to address the “new American mainstream.” International businessman and former Telstra Communications CEO Sol Trujillo teamed with Latinpointe founders David and Sarah Chavez for the venture, which will feature a series of “people-connected” platforms, including motivational speakers’ tours and awards programs spotlighting Latinos. David Chavez tells Cynopsis he is “excited to join forces with Sol in designing and bringing to life experiential platforms and content that matters to millions of people.”
