NBCUniversal is making a $200 million equity investment in Vox Media. The digital media company has “a great portfolio of premium digital brands that deeply engage broad audiences,” said NBCU CEO Steve Burke, as well as “strong leadership, top editorial talent and a unique technology platform.” Vox brands include The Verge, Re/code, Eater, Curbed, SB Nation, Polygon, Vox.com and Racked.
Zealot Networks, the digital start-up from former Maker Studios CEO Danny Zappin, acquired premium global video syndication company Allscreen. “With AllScreen now a part of our distribution and video technology offering, we’re primed to offer brands a complete approach in connecting users with engaging content,” said Zappin. AllScreen averages 250 million monthly video views.
Machinima rolled out all five seasons of its Battlefield Friends on iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, Vimeo On Demand and Xbox Live. The animated series spoofing shooter games has racked up over 100 million views. Season five is also available on Vessel, where it launched in April.
In a first for Fox Sports, the network will stream the season opener of Germany’s Bundesliga soccer season on YouTube. The match will be available on the Fox Soccer YouTube page, with pre-match coverage starting at 2p ET – no TV Everywhere authentication required for the match’s stream, part of an effort to promote the network’s new Bundesliga partnership.
SVOD + OTT
Sesame Workshop reached an agreement with HBO that gives the premium cabler the next five seasons of its beloved Sesame Street, including exclusive streaming rights for HBO Now, HBO GO and HBO On Demand. HBO will also pick up SVOD rights for older Sesame Street episodes after current contracts with Netflix and Amazon expire later this year. Sesame Workshop will produce a Sesame Street Muppet companion series for HBO, as well as a new original educational series. Episodes will begin airing as early as late fall 2015.
DIGITAL INFLUENCERS
Abrams Artists Agency added new names to its digital talent roster yesterday, including Breland Emory and Katharine Ward. Emory (812k subscribers) is a beauty vlogger with 61 million views on her YouTube channel, GlitterForever17. Ward (509k subscribers), also in the beauty and lifestyle realm, has garnered more than 20 million views; she also moved from StyleHaul to Fullscreen..

Only 44 percent of digital display ads were viewable during 2Q15, down from 49.4% in the year-ago period, according to Integral Ad Science’s latest media quality report. “The industry has been slow to improve viewability rates despite increasing pressure from advertisers,” notes the study. A bright spot: the percentage of fraudulent display ad impressions dipped from 16.5 percent to 14.1 percent from 1Q15 to 2Q15.

EXECUTIVE MOVES
Yahoo Media, including Yahoo’s new Digital Magazines, has a new Editor-in-Chief: Martha Nelson. Most recently, Nelson was the first female editor-in-chief of Time Inc., where she oversaw the editorial content for the media company’s 21 brands.
Communications planning and media services agency Crossmedia hired David Heimlich as Executive Director. He joins the agency after four years at Horizon Media, where he most recently was Vice President, Managing Director.
MultiView appointed Yariv Drori as the new Vice President of Programmatic Advertising Operations. Drori was formerly the Vice President of Global Services at Adap.tv, which was recently acquired by One by AOL.
