Update: Survivor‘s work halt didn’t last long. About two dozen non-unionized editors and assistants walked off the job yesterday, after Motion Pictures Editors Guild notified Mark Burnett’s Island Post Productions that the workers want a union contract. “They seek the same health benefits, pensions, and basic protections that their counterparts elsewhere in the industry have long enjoyed,” said Guild president Alan Heim in a statement posted on the union’s web site. Hours later, Island Post agreed to union recognition, and work resumes tomorrow. Post-production work was underway for the Season 29 premiere of the CBS reality show, slated for Wednesday, September 24.
Emmy Awards producers are “in discussion” for a Memoriam segment for Robin Williams. “While we are all still coming to terms with this week’s tragic news,” said exec producer Don Mischer, “we are working to give Robin Williams the proper and meaningful remembrance he so well deserves.” Williams, who just last year honored his mentor, the late Jonathan Winters, at the ceremony, died Monday at age 63. Emmys air live on NBC Monday, August 25.
Nothing beats a big small screen, according to research commissioned by BroadStream Systems. Despite the preponderance of options for TV viewing on PCs, tablets and smartphones, the vast majority of Americans polled said they prefer to watch television shows…on a television, according to a survey by market research firm YouGov that found 82 percent of respondents regularly use their TV set for live TV viewing, versus 14 percent who use a laptop, 10 percent who use a desktop, 8 percent who use a mobile phone and 7 percent a tablet. The survey also showed 64 percent of viewers like to watch their favorite shows in groups – no easy task on a smartphone.
TV spoilers are the worst, according to a TiVo survey. Among people who said they’d had a movie, show or sports outcome spoiled for them, 64 percent of those surveyed said the most common experience was a major plot point on a TV show, with 56 percent reporting it was a character’s death. West Coasters have it the hardest – about 30 percent of respondents in the Pacific time zone say they avoid the Internet when a program with an ending they’re invested in airs in another time zone.

Frozen is the gift that keeps on giving for Disney. Produced by Lincoln Square Productions, the special promises “exciting announcements about the next chapter of Frozen, and a preview of the film’s characters…in their upcoming appearance on ABC’s Once Upon a Time.”
