Mayim Bialik will step in as temporarily host of “Jeopardy!” following the sudden exit of Mike Richards after one day of taping. Bialik, already set as host of primetime and spin-off “Jeopardy!” series, is currently slated to man the mothership for three weeks, followed by additional guest hosts to be announced as the search to replaced the late, great Alex Trebek forges on. The episodes taped by Richards, who left after revelations of past offensive comments, are expected to air.
Stand Up To Cancer announced more than $143.18 million has been pledged in connection with its seventh biennial televised fundraising special that aired Saturday, August 21 in the US and Canada on more than 65 media platforms. Funding raised from the show supports research and new treatments for cancer and public awareness campaigns.
A letter signed by SAG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris, WGA East President Beau Willimon, NewsGuild President Jon Schleuss, National Writers Union President Larry Goldbetter and National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians President Charlie Braico urged President Biden to support news crews and their families who are struggling to leave Afghnistan. Said the letter in part: ”We call on your administration to facilitate the safe transit of all journalists, interpreters, translators, camera crews, support staff and their families to protected areas of the US-controlled airport in Kabul and to facilitate the movement of those journalists and their families out of Afghanistan.”
Fox News Media reports it evacuated three Afghan nationals, as well as their families, who have worked alongside FNC correspondents over the years. A total of 24 people were rescued. “We are extremely proud to have assisted in their critical mission,” said network president Suzanne Scott.

Simon Cowell (“America’s Got Talent”) inked an expanded deal with NBCUniversal that includes unscripted series for Peacock he’ll both produce and appear in.
Showtime gave a pilot order for drama series “Coercion,” written and directed by Susannah Grant (“Unbelievable”) and starring Sydney Chandler (“Don’t Worry Darling”). The series, produced by wiip, is inspired by the life of Rebecca Bender, a national leader on and survivor of sex trafficking.
Roku ordered a second season of “Most Dangerous Game,” a series passed down from shuttered Quibi. Liam Hemsworth, who starred in season one, is being replaced by David Castaneda (“The Umbrella Academy”) as the lead.
Also renewed is Freeform’s “Motherland,” for a third and final season. “I know this last chapter will continue to deliver,” said network President Tara Duncan.
Boat Rocker (“American Rust”) inked a development deal with Dr. Ibram X. Kendi (How To Be An Antiracist) that includes teaming on the launch of Kendi’s new production company, Maroon Visions. “The partnership between Boat Rocker and Dr. Kendi’s Maroon Visions was born out of a mutual desire to create content across genres that’s culturally relevant and engaging,” said Katie O’Connell Marsh, Vice-Chair, Boat Rocker Studios. “We can’t wait to see where it takes us.”
British comedian Michael McIntyre will be crossing the pond to host the US version of BBC game show “The Wheel” for NBC. McIntyre will also EP the new adaptation, slated to launch in 2022.
DeMane Davis (“Queen Sugar”) has struck an overall deal with Warner Bros. Television Group. The pact reunites director/producer Davis with Ava DuVernay, as Davis joins superhero DC drama “Naomi” as co-executive producer.

Kanal D Drama is bringing family drama “Amor y Travesuras” to the US Hispanic market. The Turkish production premieres Wednesday, September 1, with a preview on Facebook on August 29.
Daytime’s “The Kelly Clarkson Show” is back for season three on Monday, September 13. Premiere week will be filmed at NYC’s Jazz at Lincoln Center, then production heads back to Hollywood.

The Out of Home Advertising Association of America announced a collaboration between the OAAA Programmatic and Automation Committee and IAB Tech Lab to integrate digital out of home into OpenRTB (Real-Time Bidding) specifications. “Standardized specifications are crucial for automated workflows and these OpenRTB specs will advance digital OOH’s inclusion in the digital omnichannel mix,” said Anna Bager, President and CEO, OAAA. “Once these standards are in place and adopted, DOOH will be able to easily be bought alongside other programmatically sold formats, allowing the medium to tap into new budgets. We are excited to join forces with IAB Tech Lab to make this a reality.”

Peacock is diving deeper into global co-productions, announced Susan Rovner, Chairman, Entertainment Content, NBCU Television and Streaming, at the Edinburgh TV Festival. “Co-productions work great because you can get great content for a reduced price….Because we cover most of the budget, we get a lot of rights, but for the most part we’re concentrating on domestic rights. There is more flexibility,” she said. Rovner also noted the success of “Dr. Death,” saying of true crime content, “We’re doubling down and trying to find more.”
Curiosity Inc. and fuboTV Inc. have struck a multi-year distribution partnership. Through the agreement, the linear channel, Curiosity Channel, will launch today for fuboTV viewers in the US, and the Curiosity Stream VOD service will roll out for viewers in the US and Canada in the coming weeks.

Gusto TV’s content and channel are now available in the US on VIZIO’s WatchFree+ free streaming service for VIZIO SmartCast TVs. There’s been an appetite for Gusto TV’s food programming – minutes viewed on Gusto TV have increased 75 percent since the first quarter of 2021, with monthly viewing time up 206 percent year over year.
Anti-vaccine protesters in London targeted ITV News, prompting the company to advise employees to “either stay in the building or stay away” as the situation was dealt with. “The abuse of journalists because of their reporting on coronavirus is a worrying development which ITN has been closely monitoring and actively ensuring staff are aware of precautions to avoid coming to any harm,” said a spokesperson for the company. “This action resulted in journalists being prevented from being able to go about their newsgathering activities, something that ITN strongly condemns.”
UK’s Channel 5 is committing an annual seven-figure sum towards a dedicated training fund in order to boost industry learning and development. Production companies can submit applications to the fund for their employees and freelancers working on Channel 5 programming, at any stage during a contracted production. Channel 5 has also committed to reevaluating its hourly programme tariffs for peak-time commissions, in order to release individual productions from the constraints of a per-hour budget model.
WarnerMedia has greenlit more episodes and specials of the comedy animation “Titoo – Har Jawaab Ka Sawaal Hu” for POGO, its kids entertainment channel in India. The original series premiered in July 2020.
