Yik Yak is back, under new ownership. The once-popular social network was shut down in 2017 after it became a vehicle for cyberbullying. The app became available in the iOS App Store last week. “Anonymity, location-based, the hot feed & more -everything you used to love about YikYak,” tweeted the company. Plus, presumably, better moderation.

The Federal Trade Commission has filed a new antitrust lawsuit accusing Facebook of creating an illegal monopoly. “Facebook has systematically tracked potential rivals and acquired companies that it viewed as serious competitive threats,” said the complaint, which is about 50% longer than the FTC’s original complaint, tossed out two months ago for insufficient evidence. “Facebook supplemented this anticompetitive acquisition strategy with anticompetitive conditional dealing policies, designed to erect or maintain entry barriers and to neutralize perceived competitive threats.” Facebook called the new lawsuit “meritless.”

Some features announced by Apple as part of iOS 15 won’t be available at launch, the company alerted developers. Among the delayed features are SharePlay, enabling users to share music and videos on Facetime calls, and Wallet’s support for ID cards.

The majority of consumers (69%) use Google to find local business information, including reviews, but more than 20% also use Apple Maps, Yelp and/or Yahoo to find information about nearby businesses, according to a study from Uberall and MomentFeed. Industry specific websites and apps (e.g. travel, real estate, restaurants) are also important, with one out of five using these platforms. “Google is the center of gravity for local search but it’s not the only site consumers turn to for local information,” said Greg Sterling, VP of Insights, Uberall. “People use a range of directories, sites and apps, which often change by industry or category.”

Amazon’s plan to offer a $10 credit in exchange for consumers’ palm prints, which would enable them to pay for merchandise in stores, is raising concerns about privacy among lawmakers. In a letter to Amazon CEO Andy Jassy, Senators Amy Kobuchar (D-Minnesota), Bill Cassidy (R-Louisiana) and Jon Ossof (D-Georgia) wrote, “Amazon’s expansion of biometric data collection through Amazon One raises serious questions about Amazon’s plans for this data and its respect for user privacy, including about how Amazon may use the data for advertising and tracking purposes.” Palm prints would be incorporated into the Amazon One payment system.

OnlyFans announced it will begin to prohibit sexually explicit content, starting October 1. While not designed as a porn site, the creator platform had become known for adult content, and was under pressure from banking partners and payout providers to clean up its act.

Video quality solutions provider SSIMWAVE announced new decode capabilities to detect and measure viewer experiences in content distributed using the Secure Reliable Transport protocol, and that they have joined the SRT Alliance, the open-source initiative tackling the challenges of low latency video streaming. Using SSIMWAVE Live Monitor, content providers and distributors using SRT can gain visibility into the health of cloud-delivered video and audio streams. Live Monitor is designed to proactively detect and correct video freezes, macroblocking and other issues.

Traject, a suite of digital marketing tools backed by ASG, has acquired brand success platform Loomly. The acquisition expands Traject’s offerings to meet the demands for flexible, scalable and innovative marketing tools across agencies, enterprises and influencers.

Visual effects and animation studio DNEG announced that Novator Capital Advisers has invested $250 million in subsidiaries of Prime Focus Limited, the parent company of DNEG.The investment enables the Group to streamline its structure, consolidate minority investments, and position DNEG for future growth. Namit Malhotra will continue in his role as DNEG Chairman and CEO and will increase his ownership stake in the parent company from 35% to approximately 70%. Novator will own a 15% stake in DNEG.

Twitter’s MoPub and DoubleVerify announced an expanded partnership to combat mobile ad fraud. DV will provide full fraud protection, detection and reporting for mobile app campaigns across MoPub’s programmatic exchange, MoPub Marketplace. MoPub Marketplace currently connects advertisers with more than 2 trillion ad requests from over 1.5 billion addressable users.

DoubleVerify also announced the a Publisher Inventory Compatibility Score in DV Publisher Suite, enabling publishers to better understand how their content is perceived by advertisers. The ICS is determined by analyzing top DV advertiser brand suitability settings in comparison with DV publisher’s pages. “With DV’s new scoring system, publishers can now showcase the precise value of their inventory to digital advertisers and maximize their revenue yield,” said Mimi Wotring, SVP of Publisher Sales and Client Services at DoubleVerify.

Consumer marketing data firm Catalina is launching a new service measuring OOH advertising sales lift. The new service, launched in partnership with AdQuick, covers both OOH advertising and DOOH advertising screens. Out-of-home media “sits at the intersection of technology and data-driven decision-making — and sales-lift measurement and addressable targeting are now key requirements for CPG brands to justify increasing their ad spend,” said Jim Wilson, CEO of out-of-home media-buying agency Talon America,

OOH specialist Talon is bringing to market a new solution with MadHive across OTT and DOOH. “As marketers look for measurable incremental reach and the ability to tie campaign spending to business results, we’re enabling advertisers to start an OOH journey in-home,” said Jim Wilson, CEO of Talon America. “We’re connecting audience data across OTT and DOOH to deliver outcome-based campaigns as advertiser demand on each channel reaches new heights.”

ActionIQ, the Enterprise Customer Data Platform, announced its selection as an Amazon ISV Accelerate Partner and its general availability on the AWS Marketplace. As a result of direct integration with AWS accounts, AWS clients will be able leverage ActionIQ to engage with their customers in a more authentic way.

Lucid has partnered with SambaTV to deliver increased insight on ad measurement and campaign performance across devices. The combined offering of Samba TV’s first-party data set, propriety Identity Graph and SambaID, and Lucid’s leadership in measuring ad efficacy is being leveraged by agencies like Digitas and Wavemaker, as well as publishers and platforms.

Extreme Reach has teamed with BrightLine to create frictionless workflows. The partnership leverages BrightLine’s CTV ad technology and ER’s brand creative management and integrated workflow through their independent ad server.

TVSquared has partnered with AdImpact to measure reach, frequency and incremental reach as political ad spending shifts to streaming. AdImpact predicts that $1.5 billion will go to connected TV ad campaigns in 2022; that’s 17% of total political ad spend.

Sportsdigita is teaming with the NHL’s St. Louis Blues, who will utilize the Digideck solution to bolster its sponsorship efforts. “Digideck’s ability to integrate videos and custom infographics into our sponsorship presentations will ensure our offering stands out with prospective sponsors in a highly competitive market,” said Blues VP of Corporate Partnerships Eric Stisser.

QVC has made its debut on Sling TV as the streamer’s only livestream shopping channel. The launch aligns with QVC’s strategic initiative to expand the reach of its curated broadcast and video commerce experiences across new media and digital commerce platforms,

El Rey Network programming is now streaming on The Roku Channel. “With El Rey’s transition into the streaming space, we are thrilled to partner with Roku on an exclusive window for the channel,” said El Rey founder Robert Rodriguez. “This partnership reinforces our commitment to diverse voices and authentic and inclusive storytelling that can be accessed on a free ad-supported basis.”

Spectrum Networks announced the launch of its first digital-only local news platform in a non-Spectrum News linear TV market, in Maine, via the Spectrum News App. “Spectrum Networks has a long tradition of covering local news and the stories that matter to communities,” said Sam Singal, VP Editorial and Content. “As a Bangor native and proud Mainer, I know first-hand the integral role community and local connections play in making Maine a great place to live and work.”

Roku and Charter Communications resolved a distribution issue over the Spectrum streaming app that began last December. In a joint statement, the two companies said they had reached “a mutually beneficial agreement” to renew the app on the Roku platform. The Spectrum TV App is now available for download from the Roku channel store.

Pluto TV has launched six new channels – The Andy Griffith Show, Matlock, Gunsmoke, Britbox Mysteries, Pluto TV Game Shows and Lupin the 3rd. Users can access the happenings in “Mayberry,” mysterious crime cases across the pond and more.

Wurl reported a 38% increase in revenue in 2Q21 over the same quarter last year. All key areas driving its streaming business – content, viewers, viewing time and ad impressions – rose significantly. During the quarter, Wurl launched over 274 new FAST channels, and nearly 1,200 channels are now being distributed to CTV and FAST platforms.

X1 marks the spot: IMDb TV expanded distribution with a launch on Comcast’s Xfinity Flex and Xfinity X1. X1 is IMDb TV’s first pay-TV partner launch.

PBS is offering a collection of streaming content free to audiences via its PBS Video App and PBS.org. Notable programming includes “Lucy Worsley’s Royal History’s Myths & Secrets,” new episodes airing Sunday, September 5 and 12 at 8p; “FRONTLINE: America After 9/11,” airing Tuesday, September 7 at 9p, and “Mohammed Ali,” airing Sunday, September 19 thru Wednesday, September 22 at 8p.
