Revenue for Tribune Media’s Television and Entertainment Segment for 2Q19 was $482.6 million, down 1% from the same period last year. The decrease stemmed from a $17.6 million dip in political advertising revenue, offset by a 13% increase in retrains revenue.
Similar story for E.W Scripps Co. Local Media Division, which reported revenue for the quarter of $249 million, down 4.3% from the prior year due in part to a decline in political advertising. Retrans revenue was up 10%.
Twitter unlocked the account of Mitch McConnell on Friday. The account had been locked on Wednesday after a video was posted that contained a violent threat against the Senate Majority Leader that was deemed “a clear violation of Twitter rules.” The video shows threatening protesters in front of McConnell’s home in Kentucky. The National Republican Senatorial Committee said Thursday it was suspending its spending on Twitter in response to the lockout. Of the reinstatement, Twitter explained, “After multiple appeals from affected users and Leader McConnell’s team confirming their intent to highlight the threats for public discussion, we have reviewed this case more closely. Going forward, the video will be visible on the service with a sensitive media interstitial and only in cases where the Tweet content does not otherwise violate the Twitter Rules.”
A draft executive order from the White House calls for the FCC to develop new rules for how and when the law protects social media websites when they decide to remove or suppress content on their platforms, CNN reports. The summary of the potential order seen by CNN, called “Protecting Americans from Online Censorship,” also calls for new regulations to determine how social media companies filter content. Per the draft, the Federal Trade Commission would take the new regulations into account when filing lawsuits against tech companies.
Combining the Outstanding Younger Actress and Younger Actor categories for the Daytime Emmys is under consideration, reports Variety.
