Microsoft is adding a Target Impression Share option to support automatic bidding. “You set your budget, where you want your ads to appear, and your Target Impression Share, and Microsoft Advertising automatically sets your bids,” explained Kevin Salat, Microsoft Advertising Product Marketing Manager, in a post.

In more Microsoft news, the tech giant is requiring that its workers and visitors to its offices be vaccinated. The new policy takes effect next month, ahead of a new return-to-office date of October 4.

Amazon’s return-to-office date has been postponed even further- to January 3, 2022. “As we continue to closely watch conditions related to COVID-19, we are adjusting our guidance for corporate employees in the U.S. and other countries where we had previously anticipated our employees would begin coming in regularly the week of Sept. 7,” said Amazon’s head of HR, Beth Galetti in an email to staff.

The FTC responded to Facebook disabling the accounts of a New York University team researching political ad targeting. Facebook claims the group’s efforts violates its terms of service related to bulk data collection, which resulted in a letter to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. “The FTC supports efforts to shed light on opaque business practices, especially around surveillance-based advertising,” wrote Acting Director of the Bureau of Consumer Protection Samuel Levine. “While it is not our role to resolve individual disputes between Facebook and third parties, we hope that the company is not invoking privacy – much less the FTC consent order – as a pretext to advance other aims.”

TikTok is testing a new feature, TikTok Stories, enabling users to post videos that disappear in 24 hours. The feature would be an addition to, not a replacement for, existing storytelling tools. TikTok has also merged personal accounts with creator accounts, giving non-business accounts access to creator tools under Settings.

Twitter is giving hosts on Spaces the option of adding two co-hosts. The move allows more moderation manpower for managing speaker requests, tapping speakers, removing people in the Space and more.

Just in time for students returning to school, Apple expanded its support for student IDs on iPhone and Apple Watch. “We’re excited to work with more schools in the US and introduce mobile student IDs in Canada to provide a secure and convenient way to get around campus with iPhone and Apple Watch,” said Jennifer Bailey, VP of Apple Pay. “Students and faculty have embraced using their iPhone and Apple Watch as the best way to access buildings, purchase meals, and more.”

Amazon Web Services, Google, Microsoft, AT&T, Verizon, Lumen, CrowdStrike, Palo Alto Networks, and FireEye have agreed to work on an initiative from the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency focused on combating ransomware and cyberattacks on cloud-computing providers. “The industry partners that have agreed to work side by side with CISA and our interagency teammates share the same commitment to defending our country’s national critical functions from cyber intrusions, and the imagination to spark new solutions,” said Jen Easterly, director of the agency.

A class-action complaint accusing YouTube and other companies of violating children’s privacy was dismissed last Monday. A US District Court Judge tossed out claims brought on behalf of children under 13, but said the lawyers could re-file the complaint on behalf of minors between age 13-16. Told the attorneys didn’t plan to amend their complaint, the judge dismissed the case.

Twitter is staging a competitionfor computer researchers and hackers to identify biases in its image-cropping algorithm. The move comes after researchers discovered its algorithm tended to exclude Black people and men.

IRI announced the launch of IRI Marketplace, an open and continuously expanding network that brings together IRI’s technology, data and analytical partners on a single platform. IRI Marketplace allows clients to select and collaborate with partners by integrating their data, science, algorithms and solutions to augment existing IRI offerings. IRI Marketplace also will provide a foundation for developing strategic recommendations and building third-party applications.

YouTube blocked Sky News Australia from uploading content for seven days after the channel violated its medical misinformation policies by posting numerous videos that denied the existence of Covid-19. Some content also encouraged people to use hydroxychloroquine or ivermectin.

Mobile game publisher Netmarble Corp. entered a share purchase agreement for the acquisition of SpinX Games, a company in the social casino space. Netmarble will acquire 100 percent of shares of SpinX Games for $2.19 billion.

TAKUMI, the influencer marketing, branding, and social media platform, is acquiring Unieed, a UK-based content and strategic media-buying agency specializing in content-driven campaigns. The acquisition enables TAKUMI to expand their global paid media offerings.

NEP Group announced the launch of a new virtual production business segment, NEP Virtual Studios, with the acquisition of Prysm Collective, Lux Machina and Halon Entertainment. As part of the new venture, NEP welcomes Cliff Plumer to lead the new segment, Jeff Ruggels as SVP of Finance and Operations, Phil Galler and Zach Alexander as co-Presidents of the Lux Machina NEP Business Unit, and Daniel Gregoire and Chris Ferriter as Executive Creative Director and President, respectively, of the Halon NEP Business Unit.

People-based advertising software company Viant Technology announced the successful integration of CatapultX’s On-Stream video monetization and contextual AI platform into the Adelphic advertising software. The integration scales Adelphic’s contextual advertising inventory, offering brands and agencies contextually-relevant advertising opportunities that can be overlaid within a program without disrupting the content. “

FanAI, a platform that helps brands assess and optimize the impact of sports sponsorships on sales, has launched, connecting audience data, such as ticket sales, social data and television and streaming viewing exposure, with customer purchase data. The platform also provides media channel segmentation for a view into where fans are watching target sports events and which fans are spending.

Programmatic video platform Tremor Video introduced Unified Social Data, an all-screen data solution, powered by its partnership with ICX Media. The solution is offered in a flexible model, as advertisers can activate the solution for CTV and all-screen video campaigns via managed service, self-service, or private marketplaces.

ScreenHits TV is launching a social feature on its mobile app that will enable users to see their friends’ viewing behavior and recommendations without having to ask them what they’re watching. TV Friends will be available on iOS phones and tablets.

Redbox has added Free Live TV and Free On Demand to its Redbox App on Samsung Smart TVs. Through the Redbox app, audiences can browse new release movies for purchase or rent, as well as entertainment available to watch for free. Redbox Free Live TV and Free On Demand are available on all 2016-2021 Samsung TV models.

IMDb is now available on iOS and Android mobile devices. The streamer also announced it has acquired the AVOD rights for the CGI-animated series “100% Wolf – Legend of the Moonstone” for the US. The show is set to launch exclusively on the platform on Thursday, August 12.

Moonbug Entertainment struck its first SVOD deal with Turkish VOD platform, BluTV. BluTV will launch a dedicated Moonbug channel and environment showcasing a variety of its shows.

Niche streaming services have grown significantly faster than premium players, according to Antenna’s Q2 2021 Growth Report. Netflix and Hulu now make up 48% of category subscriptions, versus 75% in mid-2019, and have accounted for only 9% of category growth in the past two years. While that’s partly due to the success of new services like Disney+, Peacock and discovery+ and the growth of other existing services, specialty SVOD services tracked had a two-year annual growth rate of 74%, versus 30%f for premium services. Leading in subscriber growth were Sundance Now (83%), Paramount+ (81%), Epix (74%), HBO Max (72%), and BET+ (71%).

Fandango is uniting its two movie and TV streaming services, Vudu and FandangoNOW. Vudu will replace FandangoNOW as the official movie and TV store on Roku. Vudu, which was acquired by Fandango in 2020, is available in more than 75 million US TV-connected device households.

ViacomCBS Networks International and Comcast Corp.’s Sky announced that Paramount+ will launch on Sky platforms in the UK, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Austria in 2022 as part of a new multi-year distribution agreement that also includes the extended carriage of ViacomCBS’ portfolio of pay TV channels and the renewal of Sky as an ad sales partner in select markets.

Vizio has launched its reimagined free streaming service, WatchFree+, for SmartCast users. BET+ is available now, with discovery+ arriving in a few weeks.

Attention shoppers: Streaming service Curiosity Stream is now available to Sam’s Club shoppers. With member-only pricing, Sam’s Club members can purchase an HD annual subscription to Curiosity Stream on SamsClub.com.

Sportsnet has partnered with Deltatre and Firstlight Media to relaunch Canadian streaming service SN Now. Sportsnet will redesign SN NOW with a suite of integrated OTT features and a refreshed user interface, on the Firstlight Media platform, powered by Microsoft Azure. Phased in enhancements will include greater stream quality and reliability, personalized content offerings, advanced stats overlays, and other innovative features.
