PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

We are super ambitious – and intend to make some properly great, entertaining, warm and witty programmes.”

Showtime ordered a pilot for “Mason,” a comedy produced by A24 and created and executive produced by Nathan Min (“Joe Pera Talks To You”), who also stars. Daniels (Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan; “Everything Everywhere All at Once”), will direct and executive produce alongside Steven Yeun (“Nope”). A24 is producing the project, with Daniels’ producing partner Jonathan Wang, and Adam Kopp of Universal Remote.

ADVERTISING
Overwhelming ad frequency is the most widely reported reason consumers avoid ads, while half of consumers see tailored ads as good or helpful if they’re relevant to their interests, according to the Infillion study, “The Consumer-Defined Future of Streaming Is Here.” Findings include:
· 73% of consumers say the ads they see are repetitive.
· 61% of consumers say they multitask during ad breaks in streaming content.
· 67% of consumers prefer ad-supported streaming options to ad-free ones.
· 50% of consumers see tailored ads as good or helpful if they’re tailored to their interests.
· Over 70% would offer more detailed personal information in exchange for more personalization in streaming ads.
· The top five pieces of data consumers prefer to divulge are gender (69%), age (65%), interest and hobbies (63%), ethnicity (60%), and household size and detailed data about purchases (56%).
“The research underscores that in a new, more advanced media world, advertisers have an opportunity to capture more, not less, consumer time, attention and data,” said Jamie Auslander, SVP, Research & Analytics, Infillion. “This is an especially powerful call to arms for marketers who have been focused on shorter, fewer ads and asking for less relevant data.”
More mass-market brands should be taking advantage of ad-supported kids’ connected TV, a cost-effective way to reach the parents of young children, according to a survey by TVREV co-founder Alan Wolk. Amid cord-cutting by consumers, “ad-supported kids and family programming on CTV should prove to be a gold mine,” said one executive. (For insights on how streaming services can capitalize on kids’ content, head to the Cynopsis Big TV Conference next month.)

TECH TALK
Meta has agreed to postpone its acquisition of Within Unlimited, developer of VR fitness app Supernatural, after the Federal Trade Commission sued to block the deal. The FTC argues that the acquisition would reduce competition in the market for VR reality fitness apps. “The FTC asserts, seemingly based on little more than Meta’s size, that we would either build a fitness-specific service like Supernatural from scratch or somehow convert Beat Saber into such a service,” said the company in a blog post. “But given the vastly different uses and audiences for these apps, and the fact that many other well-established brands like Apple and Peloton are far better positioned than Meta to bring their existing fitness products and content to VR, doing so wouldn’t make any sense.”
Over at Google, CEO Pundar Pichai has introduced “Simplicity Sprint,” an initiative aimed at soliciting suggestions from employees to improve efficiency. “There are real concerns that our productivity as a whole is not where it needs to be for the headcount we have,” employees were told, according to internal documentation viewed by CNBC. Employees were encouraged to share ideas through August 15, and while concerns about cuts in headcount would seem reasonable, HR head Fiona Cicconi said the company is “not currently looking to reduce Google’s overall workforce.”
Integral Ad Science announced the expansion of its integration with Mediaocean. Agency and brand media buyers using IAS’s Signal dashboard and Mediaocean’s buyer workflow (Prisma) can now automate campaign creation, the linking of insertion orders, and receipt of relevant metrics. “Efficiency is imperative when it comes to managing ad spend as well as ad buyers’ time in this fast-paced industry,” said Yannis Dosios, Chief Commercial Officer IAS. “This partnership helps clients achieve the efficiency they need across the board, eliminating redundancy and allowing for improved overall campaign management.”
