Kirstie won’t make to a sophomore season – TV Land declined to renew the comedy starring Kirstie Alley, Rhea Perlman (Cheers) and Michael Richards (Seinfeld). Creator/showrunner Marco Pennette left the series at the end of its first season.

IN THE NEWS

Odd couple Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett announced on Tuesday’s Today show that they’ll be featured in a concert special to air on PBS Friday, October 24 at 9p. The singers’ jazz album, "Cheek to Cheek," drops September 23.

Apple TV added a CNBC channel and on-demand app FOX NOW to its content offerings. Viewers can watch the financial net live, or access clips and shows. FOX NOW offers full episodes of Fox shows including The Simpsons and Brooklyn Nine-Nine the day after they air, as well as bonus content. Cable subscription is required.

The Television Academy Foundation announced prizes for its "Emmy Season Auction." Items up for bid include tickets to the awards show and governors ball, red carpet bleacher tickets and admission to a taping of Late Night with Seth Meyers. Proceeds benefit the Academy’s educational programs; bidding runs through July 31.

PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter inked a new overall deal with 20th Century Fox Television and a first-look development deal with FX, reports Variety. Sutter will oversee the seventh and final season of Anarchy, premiering Tuesday, September 9 at 10p, then get to work on FX’s The Bastard Executioner. "If my sword is sharp enough it will be coming to FX, fall 2015," Sutter tweeted last month.

COMING UP

Forgotten Four: The Integration of Pro Football, a doc revealing the hardships and triumphs of athletes who broke the color barrier, premieres on Epix Tuesday, September 23 at 8p. The net is partnering with the NFL for screenings in NFL team markets, followed by panel discussion on the state of race relations and athletics, starting with the Denver Broncos on Saturday, August 2.

The 100th episode of UP‘s Heartland premieres Wednesday, July 30 at 9p. What’s the secret to the show’s longevity? "It’s a compelling drama set in the foothills of the Rockies that the entire family can enjoy," Sophia Kelley, SVP programming, tells Cynopsis. "The series’ staying power can be attributed to its robust storytelling and relatable characters."

Antenna TV marks the 50th anniversary of Bewitched with a 50-ep marathon of the sitcom on Saturday, September 20 at 1p. Hosting the event will be Erin Murphy, who played Tabitha, offering commentary in interstitial segments.

The World Dog Awards comes to The CW in January 2015. The Juma Entertainment production will celebrate canines at work in entertainment, hero dogs and everyday pooches who found fame on the Internet.

Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers stop by ABC‘s Jimmy Kimmel Live Thursday, July 31, ahead of their North American tour. The band performs songs from their new album, Hypnotic Eye.

RETURNING SHOWS

Season seven of Destination America‘s A Haunting launches Friday, August 1 at 10p, with the story of an evil spirit tormenting a family in Franklin, Virginia.

VH1 picked up Hit the Floor for season three, expected to premiere in May 2015 with 10 new episodes.

Tattoo competition series Ink Master returns to Spike TV for season five on Tuesday, September 2 at 10p. Things get personal this time around, as contestants enter the competition with a personal tattoo rival. Dave Navarro (Jane’s Addiction) is back to host.

John Rhys-Davies (Lord of the Rings) and Tyler Jacob Moore (Shameless) are onboard season four of ABC‘s Once Upon a Time for its "Frozen" story. Fantasy drama returns Sunday, September 28 at 8p.

DISTRIBUTION & CARRIAGE

GRB Entertainment acquired Nat Geo‘s Chug for global distribution. The Kickstarter-funded travel series, hosted and produced by Zane Lamprey, makes its U.S. debut this fall.

INSP has added over 140,000 new subscribers across NCTC systems. "INSP continues to experience steady growth, thanks to great partners like National Cable Television COOP and its members," reported Mark Kang, SVP of distribution.

MTV grabbed distribution rights to No Cameras Allowed, by concert crasher-turned rock videographer James Marcus Craney. Documentary, premiering on the net Friday, August 29, will also have a limited theater run.

Cinedigm and Great Point Media inked a multi-picture distribution and production output deal that calls for Great Point to deliver a minimum of eight films, primarily in the sci-fi and thriller genres. Cinedigm will distribute U.S. rights for theatrical, digital, VOD and television.

RATINGS

Dr. Phil was the top talker the week of July 14, up 8 percent to 2.7 and the only daytime show in the top ten to see a lift week to week. Live with Kelly and Michael held on to last week’s 2.6 rating, up 8 percent versus last year.

Dish Nation hit a five-month high (tying the week of February 2), and matched its all-time high with a 1.1 HH rating the week of July 14, according to Nielsen.

AHC had its best July since its 2005 launch as Military Channel in Prime for delivery among P2+ (227,000) and HH (190,000), as well as in Total Day for delivery among P2+ (154,000) and HH (136,000). 

Velocity boasted its highest-rated July in primetime among P/M25-54 and M18-34, and its highest-delivering July in Primetime for all target demos including HH, P/M18-49, P/M25-54, P/M18-34, P18+ and P2+. 

Cooking Channel delivered its highest-rated and most-watched Saturday night ever on July 26, with a .26 coverage area rating among A25-54 and .3 among W25-54. Ratings were up nearly 600 percent for A25-54 versus year-ago, and up 830 percent for the same time period among A18-49.
