PRODUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT

Peep Show, a half-hour series based on the award-winning British comedy that just concluded its 12-year run last year, is in development at Starz. UK creators Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong will consult producers on the US version, to be written by Eli Jorne, who will serve as exec producer/showrunner. Jimmy Fox (The Arrangement) and Layla Smith (Witless) of All3Media’s Objective Media Group (the company behind the original series) will also serve as exec producers with Greg Lipstone, CEO of All3Media America.

Bar none: Spike greenlit 30 new episodes of Bar Rescue for the fifth season of the network’s original series, in addition to ordering 10 more Back to the Bar specials and an untitled, late-night talk show pilot from series star, bar and nightlife expert Jon Taffer. Series and pilot are produced by 3 Ball Entertainment (Extreme Weight Loss, My Cat From Hell) and executive produced by Taffer. The fifth season of Bar Rescue will debut on August 7 at 9p, with the additional specials airing throughout the season’s run of original episodes on Sunday nights.

CMT announced a 13-episode second season pickup of its series Still The King, starring Billy Ray Cyrus, Joey Lauren Adams and Madison Iseman. The series’ debut marked the network’s highest-rated original series premiere ever; the one-hour season 1 finale airs Sunday, August 14 at 9p.

COMING UP

Nickelodeon will feature the First Lady Michelle Obama in a new episode of All in with Cam Newton this Friday, July 29 at 8p. In the ep, Newton takes 10-year old Rosie Smolowitz to the White House to meet Obama, who talks to Rosie about her dream of one day becoming President of the United States. As Honorary Co-chair of the National Parks Centennial, Mrs. Obama also highlights “Every Kid in a Park,” a program that grants free access to national parks and forests, and public lands.

In celebration of the 100th birthday of the National Park Service, Smithsonian Channel will air America’s National Parks at 100 on Sunday, August 28 at 8p. The one-hour special takes an unexpected view of the first century of our National Park System, featuring parks like Yosemite, Yellowstone, and Grand Canyon as well as highlighting the more than 400 places now managed by the Park Service, many for their importance to the American story, scientific inquiry and preservation of our national treasures.

RETURNING SERIES

History original series Ice Road Truckers will return for a 10th season on Thursday, August 4 at 10p. For the past nine seasons, a determined group of long-haul truckers have kept the remote villages and work camps of Canada’s North supplied during the harsh winter. The new season brings the ice road truckers their biggest challenge yet, as road authorities warn that the rising temperatures will cause the roads to open late and close early.

DIGITAL DOINGS

Netflix set the date for the premiere of Gilmore Girls: A Day in the Life, its revival of the show that picks up nine years after the original GG series. All four 90-minute chapters of the new show launch globally at 12:01a PT on November 25, one minute after Thanksgiving ends on the west coast.

There’s 1 WEEK LEFT to enter our much-anticipated Cynopsis Digital Model D Awards. It’s easy to enter – just be sure to get your submissions in by Thursday, August 4.

Content from A+E Networks’ A&E, History and Lifetime is now available via Google Chromecast. The free, ad-supported TV Everywhere content offers users access to full episodes, movies and exclusive clips of A+E Networks HD programming including 60 Days In, Project Runway, Devious Maids and Pawn Stars.

getTV puts the spotlight on Hollywood entertainers William Holden and Will Rogers with a pair of documentary specials airing August 21 and August 28, respectively, at 10p. Also in August, getTV is changing up its daytime programming roster with a revamped lineup that includes Nanny and the Professor, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, Whispering Smith and In the Heat of the Night.

ADVERTISING

NBC wrapped its Upfront primetime ad sales with a 12.5 percent increase in the price to reach each 1,000 viewers, said Comcast CEO Brian Roberts during the company’s Q2 earnings call. Specifically, ad rates were up 13 percent at USA, 12 percent for E! and 10 percent for Bravo. NBCU CEO Steve Burke said NBCU sold from 5 percent-10 percent more of its ad inventory than it did last year.

CASTING NEWS

Elizabeth Marvel (House Of Cards) will next be seen in the role of President-Elect Elizabeth Keane on the upcoming Season 6 of Showtime’s Homeland. New season debuts in January 2017 and will chronicle the events following the US Presidential election.

Meg Donnelly (Netflix‘s Teen Toon) is now onboard as a regular in ABC‘s new family comedy American Housewife. Donnelly will play the eldest of the three children who was awkward but suddenly became beautiful. She replaces Johnny Sequoyah, who was originally cast in the pilot.

Lucy Butler (The Gilmore Girls) landed a recurring role on TNT series The Last Ship, playing a powerful Southern politician.

Tristin Mays (The Vampire Diaries) will be a series regular in CBS’ reboot of 1985 series MacGyver. She’ll play opposite Lucas Till and George Eads.

Looks like Zoe McLellan, who played special agent Merri Brody on CBS series NCIS: New Orleans, will not be back for Season 3, due to a creative decision with the story line.

CARRIAGE & DISTRIBUTION

Pop TV will premiere Australian horror series Wolf Creek, based on the international feature film of the same name about a murdering psychopath, on Friday, October 14 at 10p. Zodiak Rights, the distribution arm of Banijay Group, licensed all North and Latin American rights of the one-hour psychological thriller to Lionsgate, which licensed the  six-episode series to Pop. John Jarratt (Django Unchained) reprises his lead role for the adaptation.

Antenna TV, Tribune Broadcasting’s multicast network, will add The Addams Family and Wings to its lineup beginning September 12. Antenna TV airs in 130 markets across the US reaching nearly 87 percent of TV households. The Addams Family will air at 5p on Saturdays and 10a Sundays; Wings will air weekdays at noon.

GLOBAL GOINGS ON

Adam Crozier, chief of UK-based broadcaster/producer ITV, said the company aims to slice up to $32.8 million in costs to counteract the anticipated economic fallout from the UK’s decision to leave the European Union.
