HOUSTON, WE HAVE A PROBLEM
A MAJOR VIEWABILITY PROBLEM

On Wednesday, August 19 (1:30-3p ET) Cynopsis will host the webinar:

RATINGS

Media Minute: “2015 is shaping up to be a banner year for many blue-chip sporting events,” Brad Adgate, SVP Research, Horizon Media, tells Cynopsis. “In January, the first-ever College Football Playoff Championship game averaged 33.4 million viewers on ESPN, the first cable show to average over 30 million viewers. The Super Bowl in February set yet another audience record, averaging 114.4 million viewers, peaking at 120.8 million at the end of the game. In April, the NCAA Basketball Championship game averaged 28.3 million viewers, the most since 1997. More recently, in June, The Belmont Stakes averaged 18.6 million viewers, the third highest since 1998, the Stanley Cup Finals averaged 5.5 million viewers the second best since 1994 and the NBA Finals averaged 19.9 million viewers, the most since 1998. Lastly, the Women’s World Cup final in July averaged 26.7 million viewers, making it the most watched soccer game in U.S. history.” Takeaway? While media fragmentation and declining TV usage have wreaked havoc in the audience delivery of many program types, it has had little impact with sports.

History boasts double digit growth for its two new series launches, Alone and Forged in Fire. After five weeks, Alone is up across all key demographics compared to its Live+SD premiere: +42% in A18-49, +40% in A25-54 and +32% in total viewers. Forged in Fire has also gained double digit growth across all key demographics compared to its Live +SD premiere: +74% in A25-54, +73% in A18-49 and +32% in Total Viewers.
