So glad we had this time together: Carol Burnett will be honored with the SAG Life Achievement Award for career and humanitarian accomplishments. “Carol Burnett is a creative dynamo and a comedic genius,” said SAG-AFTRA President Ken Howard of the 82-year-old comedy legend. “She embodies the generosity and courage that the greatest actors use in creating enduring and memorable characters.” Screen Actors Guild Awards Show will be simulcast live on TNT and TBS on Saturday, January 30 at 8p.
Xena: Warrior Princess could be making a TV comeback. Word is the ’90s series is being eyed for a reboot at NBC and NBC Universal Intl. While the project is in early stages of development, Rob Tapert, who created the series, and Sam Raimi, the original executive producer, are both involved. The plan is to also bring back Lucy Lawless in some capacity, although she would not appear in her original role. A 2016 debut is being targeted for the Xena redux.
Travel Channel is expanding its Hotel Impossible franchise with two new shows. Hotel Impossible: Five Stars Secrets follows Anthony Melchiorri as he explores the secrets of famous five-star properties around the world, while Hotel Impossible: Showdown pits hotels, inns and B&Bs against each other in a “winner takes all” competition series. Both series are slated to premiere in the coming months. Big daddy Hotel Impossible returns for a sixth season on Tuesday, September 1 at 9p.
Telemundo has partnered with Facebook to announce the nominees for the fourth annual Premios Tu Mundo (Your World Awards), live from the set of its Un Nuevo Dia morning show and Facebook’s Miami office on Thursday, July 23 at 8a. The awards celebration, which honors actors, singers and TV moments as voted by fans, will be broadcast live on Thursday, August 20 at 8p from Miami.
Mance Media announced the availability of Model Turned Superstar worldwide. The international modeling competition series challenges 80 models to change their lives and become a Hollywood superstar. And win $1 million.

Casey Patterson, longtime Viacom Entertainment executive and producer of Spike hit Lip Sync Battle, has struck out on her own with Casey Patterson Entertainment. The new company will focus on producing and developing live music, variety and comedy programming, in addition to talent driven series and specials for broadcast and cable networks, streaming services and subscription. Current projects include: Lip Sync Battle, which was renewed for 20 episodes, Guys Choice, One Night Only, Rock The Troops with Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia‘s Seven Bucks Productions and A Very Murray Christmas for Netflix. There are also series in production for USA and Tru TV and projects in development for MTV, VH1 and Spike TV.
Eliza Coupe (Happy Endings) is moving behind the scenes. The actress has signed a production deal with ABC Studios and ABC Signature Studios to develop projects.
Tribeca Digital Studios and Dick’s Sporting Goods Films have partnered to produce a documentary following beach volleyball player Kerri Walsh Jennings as she sets out to win a fourth consecutive gold medal at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Gabe Spitzer is set to direct the project, which begins production in August.
Guy Fieri hosts some of the biggest stars from Food Network and Cooking Channel in Guy’s Grocery Games All-Stars, premiering Sunday, August 23 at 8p on Food Network. Each of the five episodes features four culinary all-stars competing in challenges as they navigate their way through the aisles of a grocery store.
TCM celebrates the life and career of Hollywood icon Omar Sharif with a three-film tribute on Monday, September 21. The lineup features Doctor Zhivago at 8p, Funny Girl at 11:30p, and Funny Lady at 2:30a.
Showtime debuts Margaret Cho: psyCHO, the latest show from the three-time Grammy and Emmy nominated comedian, on Friday, September 25 at 9p. Special was filmed in March at the Gramercy Theater in New York City.
The 2015 MTV Video Music Awards nominations will be revealed exclusively on Beats 1, a worldwide radio station broadcasting on Apple Music, on Tuesday, July 21 at 10a. The announcement kicks off the campaign for the live VMAs telecast Sunday, August 30 at 9p on MTV.
UP’s first original scripted series, Ties That Bind, starring Kelli Willams, premieres August 12 at 9p. The show revolves around Allison McLean (Williams), a tough and experienced police detective in suburban Seattle.
Netflix has set a premiere date for Lorne Michaels-produced comedy Staten Island Summer: Thursday, July 30. The coming-of-age film, penned by Saturday Night Live head writer Colin Jost, features SNL alums Cecily Strong, Bobby Moynihan, Fred Armisen, Will Forte and Kate McKinnon, as well as Ashley Greene, comedian Jim Gaffigan, rapper Method Man, Kate Walsh, Gina Gershon, Graham Phillips, Zack Pearlman and Vincent Pastore.
Jurassic World‘s Brian Tee is headed to NBC medical drama Chicago Med as a series regular.
He’ll play a hospital resident.
Rick Cosnett (The Flash) is joining ABC drama Quantico, recurring as a former defense attorney recruited by Assistant FBI Academy Director Miranda Shaw. The character is described as “kind-hearted” and “openly gay.”
Veronica Mars alum Adam Rose will appear in the Season 2 premiere of CW drama izombie, airing Tuesday, October 6 at 9p. Rose will portray a sensitive hipster who’s passionate about the arts.
Add Scott Weinger to the list of Full House original cast members returning for the Netflix sequel series. Weinger will resurrect his role as Steve, DJ Tanner’s (Candace Cameron Bure) boyfriend.
Singapore-based production/distribution agency Bomanbridge Media has announced deals for several popular kids’ programs. Bec World in Thailand acquired Learn to Draw Minis and Wild About Cartoons, produced by Norway’s Earthtree Media; and EBS in South Korea acquired YOUniverse and Alphabet Stories, produced by Victory Arts and distributed by D360 internationally.
Splash Entertainment concluded a deal with Sony Pictures Television’s POP, a free-to-air children’s television channel in the United Kingdom, for CGI animated series Sabrina: Secrets Of A Teenage Witch. The 26 half-hour series is a co-production of Splash Entertainment, Archie Comics Publications, DSK Entertainment LLC, Telegael and Laughing Lion.
For the first time in over three years, PBS‘ highest-rated drama, Masterpiece, has an opening for a new national sponsor. The new sponsorship will include a new special episode of Sherlock with Benedict Cumberbatch, romantic saga Poldark, Mr. Selfridge, starring Jeremy Piven, new drama Indian Summers, as well as the finale of Downton Abbey. “We are excited about bringing this opportunity to the marketplace,” said Suzanne Zellner, VP of sales, sponsorship group for Public Television at WGBH.
Placemedia, the fully automated supply side platform for linear TV, is partnering with TubeMogul (NASDAQ: TUBE), a software company for brand advertising, to create a fully automated integration between TubeMogul’s demand-side platform and placemedia’s supply-side platform. The two ad technology companies plan to leverage their respective platforms to deliver automation, scale and targeted audiences across multiple screens, reaching more than 96 million television households nationwide.
Commercial broadcaster ITV has secured exclusive rights to seasons three and four of espionage drama The Americans in the U.K. The series will air on ITV’s pay TV channel ITV Encore. The first two seasons, which aired on ITV in June 2013 and May 2014, are being retransmitted on ITV Encore. The third season begins later this summer.

Wednesday, July 15, TV One was the number one cable net in prime time among Black Adults P25-54, thanks to the season eight finale of docu-series Unsung at 8p, delivering in Live+3 0.91 HHLD (515,000), 0.82 W25-54(243,000) and 0.77 W18-49(236,000); and the second season premiere of Hollywood Divas at 9p earning 0.87 W25-54(260,000) and 0.81 W18-49(247,000), 0.75 HHLD(425,000).
Spike’s most ambitious project to date, the scripted 3-night event-series Tut, launched with big numbers for the network on Sunday, July 19, delivering 2.6 million viewers for Night 1, including the premiere telecast and two encore presentations. The premiere telecast drew 1.7 million viewers, the largest audience for Spike in the time slot in 7 years.
The July 12 season finale of Animal Planet docuseries The Last Alaskans scored a series high 1.8 million P2+ viewers based on Live+3 performance. The freshman series averaged 1.5 million P2+ viewers during its first season, ranking as Animal Planet’s top new series of 2015 to date among major key demos, including P25-54 (498,000) and M25-54 (289,000).

George Coe, one of Saturday Night Live‘s original cast members, died Saturday, July 18, after a long illness. He was 86. Over the years, Coe appeared in numerous TV series including Goodnight, Beantown, Hill Street Blues, Scarecrow and Mrs. King, Max Headroom, L.A. Law and The West Wing.
Veteran television writer Ray Jessel died Friday, July 17 of natural causes at his home in Studio City, Calif. He was 85. Jessel was a former story editor and writer of The Love Boat and a writer and executive story consultant on Head of Class. He also wrote for The Carol Burnett Show, The Jacksons and The Bob Newhart Show.
