The streaming network competition heated up yesterday with the Emmy nom announcement. Netflix reeled in 34 nods, while Amazon took 12. House of Cards led series with with 11; Orange Is the New Black, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Daredevil, Bloodline, Grace and Frankie, Marco Polo, Derek, Virunga, Hot Girls Wanted, and Chef’s Table each scored at least one. Transparent was recognized for Best Comedy Series, Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Jeffrey Tambor and Supporting Actress for Gaby Hoffmann.
British streaming network Acorn TV landed an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Television Movie for Agatha Christie’s Poirot: Curtain, Poirot’s Last Case. It’s the first niche streamer to receive a nod.
Fandango Movieclips is joining the YouTube Space LA residency program to produce movie-themed original video content. As part of the residency, Movieclips is introducing Movie3Some, a series hosted by Fandango’s Tiffany Smith and Kristian Harloff featuring different celebrities as a third cohost – hence 3Some – each week.


CBS All Access will expand its live local feeds to 75 percent of the U.S. through affiliate agreements covering 124 markets across the country. The recent agreements with Media General, Scripps, Sinclair and other groups will bring CBS’ SVOD live offering to areas including Portland, OR; Providence, RI; Nashville, TN; Cincinnati, OH, and Albany-Schenectady, NY.
Hulu will debut originals Difficult People on Aug. 5, The Hotwives of Vegas on Aug 18 and Seth Meyer’s animate series The Awesomes on Sept. 8. This week, Hulu premiered the third season of East Los High.
Digital entertainment company RocketJump signed with WME. The network, with over 7.5 million subscribers and one billion video views, is known for its web series Video Game High School. “The talented folks at WME showed us that they have a true understanding of our company and goals as individual filmmakers…and build off of what we’ve done in the past to create a whole host of exciting new opportunities,” Desmond Dolly, Co-Founder of RocketJump, told Cynopsis.
Splash Entertainment’s Kabillion inked a deal with Broadcast Partners to distribute animated series Casper’s Scare School and George of the Jungle for its VOD platform. Both programs will be part of the new ToonPower programming block on Kabillion.
Music Choice Play is premiering a new slate of shows today at 7p ET, available on the MC Play app and online. Sophie Sumner will host new series The Weekend Countdown; Questionable Choices will feature buzzed-about internet celebs each week; and a revamped Vidications will allow users to upload content via Instagram.


Gearing up for the second season of VH1’s Candidly Nicole on July 29, Nicole Richie partnered with five online celebs to create multipart video campaign Candid Moments. Videos feature The Fat Jew (“when he told me he wanted to sell alcohol out of his trunk, I thought, ‘Of course you do.’”), Baddie Winkle, Girl with No Job, Hannah Bronfman and Jenn Im, and can be viewed on YouTube.
Tribeca Digital Studios
and American Express produced three short documentaries from academy nominated directors – Morgan Spurlock, Heidi Ewing + Rachel Grady and Gini Reticker – focused on small business entrepreneurs. The docs are available on VOD platforms including Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Vimeo and American Express’ YouTube channel and smart TV app.
America’s favorite serial killer will return in an iOS mobile game called Dexter: Hidden Darkness. The free-to-play game was created in partnership with Showtime, CBS Consumer Products and Golden Globe Winner Michael C. Hall. It’s headed to Android devices in the near future.

Marketing company PostUp introduced the Creating Traffic Revenue (CTR) Program, specifically designed for digital publishing and media companies. PostUp clients include Demand Media, Golf Channel, Disney, HBO, Sony and NBC.


Data and analytics firm Zeta Interactive closed a $125 million financing round. Participating investors include FS Investment Corp., FS Investment Corp. II, and FS Investment Corp. III, affiliates of Franklin Square Capital Partners, GSO Capital Partners LP (GSO) and the credit platform of Blackstone. Zeta plans to use the funds to grow the platform in the U.S. and UK. markets, as well as expand the acquisition strategy.
Online video editing platform Showbox raised $8 million in new funding from investors such as IMAX chairman Brad Wechsler and Wix co-founder Giora Kaplan. The new funding will help expand and improve the service’s features.

Jeff Hirsch will leave New York and join Starz in Los Angeles as President of Global Marketing and Product Planning. Hirsch is a former marketing executive at Time Warner Cable.

Endemol Shine UK promoted Nick Mather to Creative Director of Central Creative Team, Endemol Shine UK. Mather is known for co-creating BBC One’s Pointless, Channel 4’s The Singer Takes it All and The Almost Impossible Game Show for ITV2.
